Daniel Baur’s K5 Film and K5 International are re-teaming with writer/director Mukunda Michael Dewil for the time-loop thriller “Open House.” The script was written and developed by Jon Davis and Sergio Pinheiro.

Dewil and Baur, who will produce the movie, already worked together on the action thriller “Vehicle 19,” starring the late Paul Walker, and the psychological thriller “The Immaculate Room,” starring Emile Hirsch, Kate Bosworth and Ashley Greene Khoury, which won best picture and best male actor at the Mammoth Film Festival recently.

Dewil’s most recent movie project is thriller “Collide,” starring Ryan Phillippe, Kat Graham and Jim Gaffigan, which recently wrapped production. Baur is an exec producer on the movie.

“Open House” centers on a couple out house hunting, who get stuck inside a show house with a strange realtor.

The production is in the process of casting, and is looking to announce the cast within the coming weeks.

When the coronavirus pandemic arrived in Poland earlier this year, producer Jakub Razowski, of Watchout Studio (“The Coldest Game”), was already prepping a summer shoot for “Prime Time,” a thriller starring Bartosz Bielenia, fresh off his breakout role in Jan Komasa’s Oscar-nominated “Corpus Christi.”

Razowski and first-time director Jakub Piątek had cast from a deep pool of veteran stage actors, whose availability was limited to the summer months when Polish theaters traditionally go dark. If the production didn’t move forward, Razowski says, “we knew that the next possibility to book our cast would be the summer of 2021.” The cameras rolled, with cast and crew using a rigorous set of coronavirus protocols introduced by the Polish Film Institute.

Principal photography has wrapped on Jakub Piątek’s Prime Time, which received Screen International’s Best Pitch Award at the Polish Film Days in Wroclaw in July.

Described by the director as a “fantasy about revolt and rebellion”, the feature debut is centred on 20-year-old Sebastian, who locks himself in a TV studio armed with a gun on New Year’s Eve in 1999 with two hostages - a famous TV presenter and a security guard – and demands that the TV station broadcast his message to the world in prime time.

Jakub Piątek’s feature debut Prime Time was the winner of the second annual Screen International Best Pitch award presented as part of this week’s Polish Film Days which ran as a virtual event from July 27-29.

Prime Time is based on the true story of a hostage-taking in a TV studio in front of live cameras. The screenplay is written by Piątek and Lukasz Czapski and was developed at Torino Film Lab Extended and New Horizons Studio+ last year.

Netflix has confirmed that 38 new original series, movies and specials will be debuting on the streaming service in February. Leading off the lineup is the first season of the fantasy horror series “Locke & Key,” which is inspired by the comic series crafted by Stephen King’s son, Joe Hill. Among other shows launching their first seasons in the shortest month of the year are “Gentefied” and “Unstoppable.”

Also on tap is the sophomore editions of the sci-fi series “Altered Carbon” and the crime drama “Narcos: Mexico.” And look for the long-awaited sequel “To All the Boys: P.S. I Still Love You,” which continues the story from the teen romantic comedy that was one of the most streamed films of 2018.

There’s no better way to start the romantic month than to binge watch all your favorite romantic films and series coming to Netflix this February. Valentine’s Day is approaching quickly, but Netflix has got it covered when it comes to finding the perfect film or show to get viewers in the mood. Festival adds seven world, five international and one European premiere.

Estonia’s Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival (Nov 15-Dec 1) has completed the line-up for its official selection, the festival’s main competition strand.

These include seven world premieres, five international and one European premiere, adding to the previously announced eight films.

Titles include Muscle, a psychological thriller from UK director Gerard Johnson, known for previous features Hyena and Tony. Netflix is adapting Harlan Coben’s mystery thriller The Woods as a Polish original.

The Svod series has commissioned the European original from directors Leszek Dawid (You Are God) and Bartosz Konopka (Rabbit a la Berlin) and writers Agata Malesińska and Wojtek Miłoszewsk. Atm Grupa with Coben exec producing alongside Anna Nagler (The Coldest Game) and Andrzej Muszyński.

The six-part series will launch in 2020. It is the latest international adaptation of a Coben book for Netflix; the digital platform is remaking El Inocente in Spain with Oriol Paulo and The Stranger and Safe in the UK. The series is financially supported by the Polish Film Institute.

Set in two time spans, 1994 and 2019, The Woods tells the story of a Warsaw prosecutor, Paweł Kopiński, who is still grieving the loss of his sister from twenty five years ago – the night she walked into the woods at a summer camp and was never seen again.

Poland’s new generation of producers has been gearing up as the country’s films gain burnished profiles on the world stage — and they’re deeply invested in driving further advances, especially as the country’s parliament is poised to pass rich production incentives.

Building on the success at Cannes of Pawel Pawlikowski’s retro romance “Cold War,” the film’s producer, Ewa Puszczynska, recently joined forces with two other established talents in Poland, Klaudia Śmieja (producer of “High Life” and “Gareth Jones”) and sales agent Jan Naszewski of New Europe Film Sales to form production company Nem Corp.

Puszczynska (who also produced Pawlikowski’s “Ida”) has committed to embracing Poland’s new production incentives in addition to securing both public and private project financing, reflecting a strategy used by many colleagues.

K5 Intl., part of film financing and production company K5 Media Group, which has produced movies starring Robert Duvall, Jeremy Irons, Bill Murray, Bruce Willis, Paul Walker and Ethan Hawke, has inked a strategic partnership with and will receive financial backing from White Rabbit, a company that employs P2P streaming and blockchain technology to distribute films and TV shows.

K5 will provide access to its library of 50-plus films to White Rabbit, and K5 co-founder Daniel Baur will join the White Rabbit advisory board. Financial details of the deal were not disclosed.
