Universal Pictures Int’l Spain has snatched theatrical distribution rights to the Spanish remake of romcom “A Boyfriend for my Wife” (“Un Novio para mi Mujer”), now shooting in Barcelona.

The 2008 Argentine original by Juan Taratuto, starring Adrian Suar, lured up to 1.5 million admissions in Argentina and has been remade in a slew of territories, including Mexico, Brazil, Italy, China, France, Chile, Vietnam and, most successfully, in South Korea where it sold five million admissions.

Its story revolves around a man who finds a rather unorthodox way of getting rid of his lovely but insufferable wife: Finding her a boyfriend so that she dumps him instead. He picks a well-known Lothario to seduce her but the scheme backfires on him.

Elle Driver will introduce sales on Spanish director Pablo Berger’s feature-length animation Robot Dreams at the upcoming European Film Market.

It is Berger’s fourth feature, after multi-award-winning silent melodrama Blancanieves and 2017 fantasy comedy-drama Abracadabra.

The director’s first foray into animation, it is adapted from the popular 2007 graphic novel of the same name by US artist Sara Varon, set in an imaginary 1980s New York populated by animals with no definable age or gender.

Spanish producer-distributor and sales agent Filmax will handle international rights on Lara Izagirre’s “Nora,” the film opener at this year’s San Sebastian Zinemira Basque cinema showcase.

Selected for San Sebastian’s Europe-Latin America Co-Production Forum in 2018, “Nora” is Izagirre’s second feature, following on ”An Autumn Without Berlin,” a Basque homecoming drama which scored a best new actress Goya award for Irene Escolar in 2016.

A co-production between Gariza Films and Tandem Films in Spain and France’s La Fidèle Production, “Nora” turns on a 30-year-old woman who lives with her grandfather in a small village in the north of the Basque Country. Netflix has announced two new Netflix Originals and will launch Julio Medem’s drama The Tree Of Blood and Sebastian Schindel’s thriller The Son worldwide this year excluding theatrical in the projects’ home countries.

Exclusive: Wme has signed Úrsula Corberó, a breakout on the hit Spanish-language Netflix series Money Heist (La Casa de Papel), for representation in all areas. The competitive signing comes as she is next set to star in Julio Medem’s El árbol de la sangre which bows in Spain in November. The agency will look to land her on this side of the pond.

Netflix earlier this year said Money Heist is the streaming service’s most-watched non-English-language series. The thriller stars Álvaro Morte as El Professor, a mysterious criminal mastermind planning an epic heist. He recruits a group of eight thieves who take hostages and lock themselves in the Royal Mint of Spain while El Professor manipulates the police to carry out his plan.
