I usually avoid chorus lines music films, but this one caught me, first of all , the intensive tempo and pace of the action,an unforgettable introduction, very well done performances by the dancers and musicians and not to forget the lovestory. great great great.
so if your into the trade of dance and music, and loves musicals, then the grumpy old man recommends.

Such a BEAUTIFUL film. I had chills the entire time. The talent was absolutely phenomenal, I'm so excited to see where these performers' careers take them next. The ending was perfect. I'll definitely be watching this many more times.

For me what set this show above the normal dance shows was the wonderful mix of dance and music. Sure the story line was highly predictable, but it seems just about every dance show has the same story line.
But that is where it ends. I absolutely loved both the dancing and the music. The dancers and choreography were head and heels above the normal dance show. The actress and actors were lovely.
I gave it 8 stars because I had to ding the story line for predictability. But the dance and music earned the eight stars from me.

Has that vibe of being a timeless piece / transcends time, so anyone can watch it.
great dance choreography, like super well done. lots of WOW moments, like why haven't I seen such moves before?
Great music. really really good music from all the spread of genres in it.

Quite and energetic dance drama with an attractive cast and a cliched but watchable story. It's a fact that most dance movies have a cliched story the love triangle thing is so predictable but the believable cast keeps things going. Julie Doherty is pretty and a real dancer. The dancing in the show Free Dance is a bit silly and the final show is over the top but it's fun. Stylish at times too much at others. It's

This movie was basically the same story line as Center Stage and that's fine because that was a great movie and it was time we should have a fun dance movie again! The men were easy on the eyes, the dance was fun to watch, and the acting wasn't bad. It's a great rainy day movie.

There is something in this movie for any age between all the dances and piano. I'm normally not a "romance" movie kind of girl but I felt everything about this was subtle but engaging in every way. Cast and crew did an amazing job on this film and deserve more recognition for the beauty in it.

Created an account just to write this horrible review. This movie has so many plot holes and got worse by the minute. It had a painfully bad script, mediocre acting, and a plot line that didn't make sense. At no point could I tell what would happen next, but not in a good way. Don't listen to the good reviews on here, they are lying to you. The only redeemable quality of this movie is the dancing.

Beautiful dancers and the final scenes were top notch. felt i had just gone to a great broadway show. i think i liked the original high strung just a hair better. would have liked a little follow up after the final scene. would have also liked a little less dancing and more story line. enjoyed the contact between the elderly lady and the pianist, it gave the movie some heart.

I am a 55 year old male who does not enjoy ballet movies but I seen the trailer for this and gave the movie a chance and am happy I did.
The story, music, dancing and characters everyone played in my opinion were perfect and a little disappointed in the IMDB score for not being higher.

Saw this movie tonight and absolutely loved it. It even was better than Center Stage and Step up movies. Best dance talent I've ever seen. Juliet Doherty is an amazing and perfect dancer. You have to go see it. I will definitely be buying this movie when it comes out on dvd.

WOW! I am NO expert, BUT. WOW! The music is amazing, the dancing is amazing, and the story is great. As a piece of art, it's incredible. The story itself is slow-ish because there aren't any chase scenes or stunts. But MAN is it great to watch. The female lead is adorable, and the person who plays Zander is amazing. The character development and visuals are amazing too. I've already watched pieces of this movie (especially the last scene!!!!) multiple times since watching it for the first time just a couple of weeks ago. If you're debating whether or not to watch it - - - - WATCH it! You will be very glad you did.

Wow!! All I can say is wow!! At first I thought the movie was going to be a cheesy sing-along, but it is nothing close to that. The dancing and the music are outstanding. If you have any appreciation for dance and music this is the movie for you. The ending dance number is phenomenal and brought tears to my eyes.

The dancing, music and energy of High String Freedance was great. The young leads in the cast are talented and all very attractive. The story of realizing your career dream in theater/dance/music is uplifting so you leave the theater in a good mood. A very entertaining movie that I would recommend!
A totally unexpectedly beautiful movie to watch with the family. I'm deeply moved, from music to choreography.
So nice to see something that doesn't rely on violence or overdone special effects.
Had never heard of the movie and got it just by chance. It was a fantastic special of dance to watch and it was a show off perseverance against setbacks to go on sharing the odds and win for positive reasons. Not one person in the movie but five persons all coming from different directions. Great movie. Great dance. Great music.
Exceptional Movie. I don't watch dance movies - but this one blew me away! A Must See!

This is one of the most beautiful films I've ever seen. The music, the dancing, the characters, and the choreography were all amazing. I am a retired high school teacher/principal and I worked with teenagers my entire career. I've heard all of the bad language and wild things that kids say and do. This movie is so refreshing in that respect. I'm no prude by any means but I thoroughly enjoyed the wholesomeness of this movie. What a beautiful way for young people to be introduced to the arts and see some positive and clean entertainment. Kudos to the writers and producers of this movie!

Structurally, this film owes a lot to "Center Stage", but it claims its own place in the list of entertaining dance films. A large part of the credit goes to choreographer Tyce Diorio, but there are plenty of other accolades to go around.
It is not the easiest thing to capture dance on film, but the director, cinematographers and editors do a nearly flawless job. That action, combined with some wonderful music, keeps the tempo high.
Of course, it helps if you have a gorgeous, talented cast, which "Free Dance" does. Films of this genre can be an opportunity to see new, young actors and performers. Watching the film, I was blown away by the beauty on screen and the quality of the dancing. Juliet Doherty, who plays the central character, Barlow, shines. And there are others I look forward to seeing in the future, including Harry Jarvis, who plays a pianist who is drawn to Barlow; and Thomas Doherty, who plays Zander, the choreographer; and Jorgen Makena, who plays Kayla Jordan, the performer who threatens Barlow's role in the big production they are rehearsing for.
This film takes us to some unexpected places, like an electric scene at a nightclub with a Roaring Twenties theme, a joyful sidewalk rap performance, and a tender subplot about a reclusive former pianist.
Though it focuses on dance, this film has an inspirational message that relates to all artistic disciplines.
