The director originally planned to shoot in a multi story hotel. The original drafts of the screenplay were based on this premise, with major scenes taking place in elevators, stairways, an underground garage, an indoor bar, and an outdoor pool. However, at the last minute the hotel location was lost. The screenplay then had to be adjusted to fit the new location, a one story resort where most of the movie takes place.
Original title Two of Us was changed to Dead Earth, then changed again to Paradise Z.
Shot in 9 days at an abandoned resort in Thailand.
Planned to be the first part in a trilogy of zombie movies. Part one, Two of Us (renamed Dead Earth), was shot in June 2018, while part three, The Driver, was shot in October 2018. The second part , The Rider, has yet to be shot. The Driver was shot second and is the third part but will be released first on DVD and streaming. Certain characters and themes are expected to be part of all three movies when finally completed.
