Quentin T. is my least favorite contemporary filmmaker - his influence over the past 25 years has been all negative on other writers and directors. Even the Adult Industry is not impervious to this evil cloud, as witness hack Jakodema over at Digital Playground attempting to use the convoluted structure of a "Pulp Fiction" to mangle this otherwise routine crime story.
The title refers to a crummy strip club run by John Strong, at which some of the ecdysiasts/hookers have teamed up with ne'er-do-well Tyler Nixon (cast against type as a bad boy, minus his usual SEG grin) to pull off an inside heist. Styled as one of DP's padded, boring "series" (meaning 8 or more episodes for individual streaming from the website) it's a generic sex DVD EXCEPT for the way Jakodema has assembled his footage. Editing is credited to "Wiz", though I would have preferred Crazy Eddie as the proper pseudonym.
The scenes are presented sort of backwards -not in strictly reverse chronological order but more of the Moebius strip approach of not only "Pulp Fiction" but another detestable (and revered, of course) modern title "Memento".
The problem here is basic: if you have trouble cogently telling a story in a traditional manner, a description fitting most porno hacks, please don't attempt some fancy, intricate structure. Try learning to crawl before you attempt galloping.
So big Jak repetitiously and sometimes contradictorily presents his scenes out of order. For the unwashed 21st Century porn fan, this is a "who cares?" moment, since such a personage only wants to watch (download or stream) an individual 1/2-hour sex scene, and cares little or not at all how it fits into a larger whole. The old VHS notion of fast-forward has been embedded into the modern psyche.
But for an Old School fool like myself, I actually watch the whole damn thing. Early on a key male character is dramatically killed to end a vignette (once the humping has already ended in its money shot) but he's back to life unscathed in later scenes. That's because those scenes haven't yet built to the death scene yet. These are not flash-backs or flash-forwards or even those atrocious "sideways" scenes of the disastrous final seasons of TV's "Lost", but just sloppy and almost random horsing around in the editing room. It's not impossible to sit through, only painful.
Stuck in this 3-1/2 hour marathon are DP contract girls Aria Alexander and Eva Lovia, plus other mighty fine to look at young talent Alix Lynx and Rachael Madori. For old-timers, and looking well-preserved as a stripper (though way too top-heavy for my taste, having grown to love her original circa 2004 physique), we have Monique Alexander. The guys are the usual suspects plus strictly for trendy IR content, Rob Piper bringing his BBD to the party.
