The film is based on the story of Canadian teenager Amanda Todd. She was a 15-year-old girl from near Vancouver who without thinking sent a nude photo of herself to a chat acquaintance. He published the photo on Facebook and sent it to students and staff throughout the girl's school. The young girl was so badly affected by the attacks over several years that she tried to kill herself twice.
