In May 2024, it was reported that the producer
David Ozer has been accused of siphoning funds from Safehaven's budget to pay his personal expenses. Allegedly, Ozer had fabricated invoices and created fake vendors in order to hide the theft. The schedule originally called for 70 days of shooting, but had to be reduced to 65 days, according to the lawsuit. That, in turn, cut the runtime of several of the episodes below 40 minutes, posing a risk that the show could not be distributed. The show had still not been completed, and
Kevin V. Duncan alleges that Ozer sabotaged the post-production process by failing to pay vendors. Two months later, Ozer has agreed to plead guilty to defrauding an investor in the show out of $214,486. Duncan, the principal of production company Ravenwood, settled the lawsuit against all parties except Ozer on July 22. The settlement allowed Ravenwood to take full control of Safehaven so that post-production could be completed and the show could be sold to a distributor.
