Pomorsk True Story

This Soviet short animation tells the story of two fishermen who get shipwrecked on a rocky island. With no hope of rescue they decide to carve their story on the piece of wood so they'll be remembered after death. This is punctuated by cutaways of their mother singing a song lamenting their deaths.

This is a tragic tale, based on traditional Pomors culture, set on the White Sea. The cultural context is fascinating, the artwork matches beautifully and the traditional song sets the tone.
