On Oct. 29, Netflix officially revealed that American Primeval makes its premiere on Jan. 9, 2025. Along with the release date, Netflix dropped a handful of first-look images from the series that show Taylor Kitsch, Betty Gilpin, Jai Courtney, and other stars in action.

John Leguizamo has joined the cast of the upcoming Apple TV+ drama series “Firebug,” Variety has learned. In addition, Kari Skogland has boarded the series as director and executive producer.

After an underwhelming fourth season, FX’s Fargo found excellence again with season 5. The fifth season of this anthology series inspired by the Coen Brothers’ film and created by TV auteur Noah Hawley returned to the “present” (or 2019 at least) for an inspired yarn about family, debt, and the creeping fascistic rot in small town America.

The cast was at the top of their game including Juno Temple (Ted Lasso) as the resourceful Dorothy “Dot” Lyon and Jon Hamm (Mad Men) as “constitutional” sheriff Roy Tillman. Fargo season 5 didn’t need to stick the landing for its 10-episode saga about Dot winning her life back from the abusive Roy to have weight. Still, a good ending would have been one hell of a bonus. That ending arrives in the final episode “Bisquik” and thankfully, it’s a good one.

Comcast-owned Sky Studios has added to its drama team, tapping two new executives and promoting others, Variety can reveal.

In a memo circulated today, drama director Meghan Lyvers confirmed that Bad Wolf producer Ellen Marsh has joined the team as head of series development while UTA’s Megan Spanjian is set to join later this summer as senior executive producer.

Sam Hoyle, who joined last year as an executive producer, has transitioned to the role of commissioning editor, reporting to Katherine Butler. Hoyle will work alongside Paul Gilbert, Manpreet Dosanjh and Sholla Caramba-Coker while Tilly Coulson will continue to head up development for commissioning.

The series, which premiered on April 16, has become the third most-streamed Showtime original debut to date, behind only Dexter: New Blood and Yellowjackets. With 1M viewers, Waco: The Aftermath has doubled its audience since opening weekend, according to Showtime.

Yellowjackets recently beat out Dexter: New Blood to become the most-streamed Showtime original debut ever with the premiere of Season 2, which was watched by nearly 2M people across platforms. Showtime doesn’t generally provide specific viewership numbers or break them down by platform.

The Season 2 premiere episode of Yellowjackets has now nearly tripled that original audience, with 5.5M viewers. There has also been a 65% gain in streaming for the Season 1 premiere episode since the second installment debuted.

According to Showtime, the streaming viewership for Season 2 sees double-digit growth each week.

This April 19 marks the 30th anniversary of the violent end of the siege of the religious sect, the Branch Davidians lead by David Koresh. Eighty people died in the fire set in their compound outside of Waco by members of the cult after law enforcement had attempted to flush them out by introducing tear gas. The standoff had begun 51 days earlier when Koresh and members of this sect ambushed Atf agents who had arrived at the complex to executed federal warrants on charges of illegal manufacture and possession of machine guns and destructive devices. Four Atf agents were killed along with six members of the sect.

Kieran Culkin is opening up about growing up with his massive and famous family in New York City. Kieran, who stars as Roman Roy on "Succession," is one of seven kids shared by Kit Culkin and Patricia Brentrup. The pair never married, though their split in the 1990s and ensuing custody battle became tabloid fodder because Kieran's brother Macaulay had become very famous after starring in 1990's "Home Alone" franchise. Kieran revealed in an interview with Esquire published March 27 that his dad - an actor himself - had all seven try to be actors, though only Macaulay (who his siblings call Mack), Kieran, and Rory pursued it seriously.

According to the Texas State Historical Association, Victor T. Houteff established the Davidians, a small Adventist reform movement. A Bulgarian immigrant, Houteff left the Bulgarian Orthodox Church and accepted Seventh-day Adventist teaching in 1918, starting the Davidians in 1929. In 1955, Benjamin organized the Branch Davidians, a group focused on preparing for the second coming of Christ.

When Benjamin died in 1978, his wife, Lois, assumed leadership. She shifted her teachings to focus on the female character of the Holy Spirit and ordination for women.

Nobody came out of the 1993 Waco tragedy looking good. Not David Koresh, the messianic religious/cult leader who stockpiled illegal weapons and married underage girls in order to spread his seed for a coming apocalypse. Not the Atf, which went ahead with its raid on Koresh’s Branch Davidian compound despite knowing that they were expected, eliminating any element of surprise. And not the FBI, whose hostage rescue and negotiation teams were constantly at odds over both means and ends. In the end, 86 people – 82 Davidians and four Atf agents – were killed.

Waco: American Apocalypse is a true crime documentary about the events that took place in 1993, in which a group of clergy clashed with federal agents in Waco, Texas. It is directed by Tiller Russell.

About the Documentary

A documentary about the Davidians and tragically infamous Waco siege, an event that generated a whole debate around religious freedom and the right (or not) to bear arms.

In 1993, the FBI seized the Waco headquarters of the Branch Davidian, led by David Koresh. A faith was practiced there and its religious followers – considered a sect – had a whole arsenal of weapons that they did not hesitate to use against government forces.

What happened? In Waco: American Apocalypse, the whole drama is recounted to us in detail, interviewing the protagonists and telling us the story of this famous sect.

Waco: American Apocalypse premieres on Netflix on March 22. The three-episode limited series showcases never-before-seen footage from the infamous 51-day standoff between federal agents and David Koresh’s heavily armed followers in 1993.

Shea Whigham has been cast in a recurring guest star role in the “Bass Reeves” series currently in production for Paramount+, Variety has learned.

David Oyelowo stars in the series based on the life of the titular legendary law man. The series also stars Barry Pepper, Dennis Quaid, Forrest Goodluck, Lauren E. Banks, Grantham Coleman, and Demi Singleton.

Per the official logline, the show “will bring the legendary lawman of the wild west to life. Reeves, known as the greatest frontier hero in American history, worked in the post-Reconstruction era as a federal peace officer in the Indian Territory, capturing over 3,000 of the most dangerous criminals without ever being wounded.”

Whigham will appear as Col. George Reeves, described as the “upright and incredibly cruel master of Bass Reeves.”

Just as limited and anthology series based on real events have taken over the TV landscape, they have taken over the Emmys. But how well have programs of this particular genre actually gone over with the academy throughout the past few years?

Let’s take a look back at all nominations earned by limited and anthology series starting in 2015; that’s the year in which the rules were tweaked to require that a program can only compete as a limited series if it has a minimum of two episodes with a total running time of at least 150 minutes, tells a complete, non-recurring story, and doesn’t have an ongoing storyline and/or main characters in subsequent seasons.

This rule change came just a year after limited series (referred to as “miniseries” at the time) and TV movies were once again split up into separate program categories, undoing a three-year-old change that consolidated the two awards.

Before Michael Shannon returns as villain, General Zod, in The Flash, he makes a return to deal with the embolden domestic terrorists in the follow-up show to Showtime’s six-part mini-series, Waco. The new chapters in the story follow the events in the wake of the siege at Mount Carmel. The focus centers around the trials of the surviving members of the Branch Davidians and anger from the public who felt the feds had gone a little too far. Collider has the report on the new trailer that’s been released days after the teaser on the new series.

Set to a cover of “Losing My Religion,” the footage kicks off with Noesner explaining how Waco has only united civil war-minded domestic terrorists and other individuals who lack faith in the American government and justice system. The result is a rise in further incidents and more animosity toward the FBI in particular.

Kevin Hart is back with a thirst for fame in the official trailer for “Die Hart 2: Die Harter,” which the Roku Channel dropped today.

Hart plays a fictional version of himself in the comedy series, which follows his quest to become a renowned star of action films. When Season 2 kicks off, Hart is attempting to establish a reputation as the greatest action star of all time by developing an avant-garde unscripted feature. But his plans are soon foiled when an enemy from his past intervenes.

The new trailer previews what’s to come, along with a first look at series newcomer John Cena’s character. Cena plays a Hollywood stuntman who goes by the moniker “Mr. 206,” and is introduced to viewers holding a crossbow. The grizzly performer changes his tune once he sees Hart, immediately asking, “How do you like your tea?”

The “Waco: The Aftermath” series at Showtime has added 10 new cast members, Variety has learned.

The new cast members for the followup to Paramount Networks’ “Waco” include: Shea Whigham, who will reprise the role of Mitch Decker, the FBI agent who managed the situation leading up the siege; Annika Marks, who will reprise the role of Kathy Schroeder, one of the surviving Branch Davidians who was also called upon to testify; Alex Breaux, who will play Timothy McVeigh; Michael Cassidy, who will play Bill Johnston, the lead prosecutor in the trial of the Branch Davidians; Gary Cole, who will play Gordon Novel, described as an “intense private investigator;” Nicholas Kolev, who will play Paul Fatta, another one of the Davidians on trial after the Waco siege; Michael Luwoye, who will play Livingstone Fagan, described as “an extremely bright biblical scholar and one of the surviving Branch Davidians on trial;” Kali Rocha,...

Waco: The Aftermath, a sequel series to Paramount Network’s 2018 miniseries, has rounded out its cast, finding its Timothy McVeigh and adding the likes of Gary Cole.

The series, which had originally been planned for Paramount+ but will now debut on Showtime on April 14, stars Michael Shannon and focuses on the fallout of the Waco disaster.

Waco: The Aftermath is now headed to Showtime. After being ordered for Paramount+, the series will now air on the cable channel instead. The sequel to 2018's Waco series will premiere on April 16th, with a release on streaming two days earlier. The five-episode series examines the events that followed the Waco disaster 30 years ago.

Michael Shannon and John Leguizamo from the original Waco series (which aired on Paramount Network) will be joined by Giovanni Ribisi, David Costabile, J. Smith Cameron, John Hoogenakker, Keean Johnson, and Abbey Lee.

Showtime’s upcoming series, “Waco: The Aftermath,” will debut on the streaming service and on-demand April 14, followed by its linear premiere on April 16 at 10 p.m.

A first-look image has been released in addition to the premiere date (see above). “Waco: The Aftermath” follows the 2018 limited series “Waco,” which retold the true story of the 51-day standoff between a small religious community and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (Atf). “The Aftermath” stars Michael Shannon, who reprises his role as Gary Noesner, a FBI hostage negotiator suffering from Ptsd after the failed negotiations in Waco. Shannon is rejoined by John Leguizamo as Jacob Vasquez, an undercover Atf agent. The upcoming five-episode series will document the fallout of the disaster, including the trials of the surviving Branch Davidian members and the rise of homegrown terrorist Timothy McVeigh.

Five years after the six-part mini-series Waco (read our review Here) was released through Paramount Network, a follow-up mini-series called Waco: The Aftermath has now set its premiere date. But while this series was originally intended to be released through the Paramount+ streaming service, Deadline reports that Paramount Global executive Chris McCarthy has decided to shift the series over to Showtime instead. Waco: The Aftermath will premiere on Showtime’s streaming and on demand platforms on April 14th, before airing on Showtime itself at 10pm on April 16th. That’s just days before the 30th anniversary of the fiery end of the Waco siege. Along with the premiere date news comes the unveiling of a teaser trailer, which you can watch in the embed above.

Paramount Global continues to play musical chairs with some of its programming.

The conglomerate on Wednesday announced that Waco: The Aftermath, the follow-up to the 2018 limited series, will debut on Showtime. The show was originally picked up to air as a Paramount+ original after the 2018 show launched on Paramount Network.

Waco: The Aftermath stars Michael Shannon. The actor recently starred in Showtime’s George & Tammy, which became a Showtime original after it was originally picked up for Spectrum with a deal for a second window on Paramount Network.

The Aftermath will debut April 14 on Showtime’s streaming and on demand platforms before its linear debut April 16 at 10 p.m. That coincides with the 30th anniversary of the fallout of the Waco disaster.
