The original title "Nos années folles" (Our wild/crazy years) is a multiple play on words:
- "Années folles" is how the 1920s are called in France (equivalent of "Roaring Twenties"), since the action occurs from WWI to 1929;
- It refers to the wild and crazy character of Paul as well as of the story;
- "Folle" is a pejorative word for gay.
The plot is based on a true story and the related book "La garçonne et l'assassin" (The Boyish Woman and the Assassin), written by two historians (Virgili and Voldman, 2011).
