The Apple TV+ series Ted Lasso premiered in 2020 and aired for three seasons to critical acclaim. The show drew viewers in with exceptional performances, outrageous humor, uplifting tone, and more. Comedy fans are always searching for another intelligent comedy to keep them entertained. Ted Lasso set the bar fairly high, but the list below will certainly give fans some new series to keep them entertained.

Exclusive: Following the November 25 Paramount+ launch of his holiday comedy Dear Santa, Bobby Farrelly has closed a deal to direct Driver’s Ed, a teen ensemble comedy to be fully financed and co-produced by Stuart Ford’s AGC Studio.
While we’d reported in October that Sporkinfeesten, a “finding your roots” style family vacation comedy loosely inspired by true events, would be Farrelly’s next project after Aaron and Will Eisenberg’s hot spec landed at Amazon MGM Studios, Driver’s Ed has gained traction first and moved to the top of the filmmaker’s docket, with casting underway for an early 2025 shoot in North Carolina.
Driver’s Ed centers on teens who steal their school’s driver’s ed car to go on a road trip to help a high school senior track down his college-freshman girlfriend and win her back. Jonas Pate, co-creator of Netflix’s smash hit YA series Outer Banks,...

In mid-December of 1994, the Farrelly brothers blew the roofs off cinemas around the world with their gut-busting feature directorial debut, Dumb and Dumber. And so it’s fitting that Dear Santa, their first feature film team-up in a decade, arrives just three weeks before the 30th anniversary of their Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels-led buddy comedy.
In the intervening years, the Rhode Island-raised brothers, Peter and Bobby, have kept busy, as the former won two Oscars — including best picture and best screenplay — as the co-writer and director of Green Book (2018). Bobby also directed the underrated Woody Harrelson-led comedy-drama, Champions (2023), having produced and/or directed various other projects across both mediums until that point.
Directors Bobby Farrelly & Peter Farrelly
But the brothers have remained close in the decade since their last go-round on Dumb and Dumber To, the sequel that marked the then-20th anniversary of their career-launching film.

Christmas-themed movies have become so ubiquitous it’s hard to avoid the feeling that filmmakers have come to think of them as annuities for their retirement accounts. So it’s no wonder that the Farrelly brothers have waded into the territory for the first time, with their new comedy directed by Bobby Farrelly making its debut on Paramount+. And while Dear Santa doesn’t exactly qualify for entry in the filmmakers’ pantheon beside the likes of There’s Something About Mary and Dumb and Dumber, it should fulfill its goal of being trotted out annually for holiday consumption alongside the turkey and the eggnog.
Considering that the words “Santa” and “Satan” contain exactly the same letters, it’s amazing that it’s taken this long for someone to come up with the idea for a movie about an 11-year-old with dyslexia who writes a letter to Santa, only to find...

“Dear Santa” has been 15 years in the making for Bobby and Peter Farrelly.
During that time, the brothers parted ways for solo careers, with Peter Farrelly famously winning Best Picture for “Green Book.” Now, a decade after last working together on “Dumb and Dumber To” in 2014, the Farrelly Brothers are back together for a subversive new holiday film starring Jack Black.
Black plays Satan, who is summoned by a kid (Robert Timothy Smith) who accidentally sends his letter to Santa Claus to the underworld. Keegan-Michael Key, Brianne Howey, Post Malone, Hayes MacArthur, Jaden Carson Baker, and Kai Cech co-star.
Ricky Blitt (“Loudermilk”) co-wrote the script with Peter Farrelly; Bobby Farrelly directs. Last year, during an interview for his solo effort “Champions,” Bobby Farrelly told IndieWire, “It’s a much zanier comedy than this one, closer to what we did, I think, originally.”

There is something so delicious about biting into a comedy from the Tina Fey/Robert Carlock universe. “30 Rock,” of course, was the gold standard — and a show I find myself still quoting to this day. Team the Fey camp with Meredith Scardino, who cut her teeth on “The Daily Show” and “The Colbert Report,” and you get “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt,” another landmark show that helped Netflix define its smart comedy brand early in that streamer’s life.
Scardino was also part of the Fey/Carlock collab that gave us NBC’s “Mr. Mayor,” and I am still a bit angry that not enough people tuned into that sharp series. Ted Danson and Holly Hunter led a workplace comedy that delightfully skewered Los Angeles while setting up some amazing character dynamics.

Loudermilk's streaming success on Netflix has sparked calls for a season 4, showcasing its newfound popularity. Season 4 plans include fresh storylines, possible fame for Loudermilk, and incorporating contemporary cultural commentary. With potential guest stars, a revitalized Ron Livingston, and stable home on Netflix, Loudermilk has a promising future.
Loudermilk never got its due while it was airing, but since being added to Netflix, there's more reason than ever that the hidden gem comedy TV show should get a season 4. Starring Ron Livingston as Sam Loudermilk, the series follows its titular character as he navigates life in Seattle as a sobriety sponsor and recovering alcoholic. Though he's an effective mentor and a decent guy deep down, Loudermilk frequently puts people off with his lightning-fast quips that only a few people in his life can keep up with.

Farrelly had big plans for Loudermilk season 4 before its cancellation, envisioning a storyline where Sam Loudermilk deals with newfound fame. “Loudermilk” just got a whole lot louder.
In December 2023 on Amazon Prime Video, the Peter Farrelly comedy starring Ron Livingston (who plays the titular Loudermilk), Will Sasso, and Anja Savcic ranked 828th among all streaming shows, according to Reelgood. Now on Netflix, it’s ninth.
Even “Suits” could get jealous of that bump.
Each month, Reelgood measures what it calls 20 million “viewing decisions” on 25,000 shows across more than 200 streaming platforms. Check out the measurement app’s aptly titled “Rise from Obscurity” line graph for “Loudermilk,” as shared with IndieWire:

Before you wave off Reelgood’s methodology, let’s check in with Nielsen, the TV ratings giant.
In its first three weeks on Netflix, “Loudermilk” has made Nielsen’s Top 10 chart for acquired streaming programs each week: eighth twice and 10th once. As an Amazon Prime Video series, “Loudermilk” never charted — and it is safe that say it never came close.

For the first time since the show became exclusive to Peacock, The Office has made the weekly streaming rankings.
The long-running comedy series racked up 602 million minutes of viewing time for the week of Jan. 22-28, good enough for ninth place among library series. It’s the first appearance for The Office — which was a regular entrant in the early days of the Nielsen rankings — since it left Netflix for Peacock at the beginning of 2021.
At the top of the rankings for the week is Griselda, Netflix’s drama about the infamous drug queenpin starring Sofia Vergara. The series had 1.59 billion minutes of watch time over its first four days of release (it premiered Jan. 25). Reacher (741 million minutes) hung on in second place among original series a week after its second season finale on Prime Video, beating out Netflix’s docuseries American Nightmare (676 million).

The week of Jan. 15-21 was a big one for streaming.
Seven titles — three original series, three acquired shows and one movie — each drew more than 1 billion minutes of viewing for the week, the most that have ever hit that mark in the four-year history of Nielsen’s streaming charts. The previous high was six, which has happened four times (including two weeks earlier).
Kids’ favorite Bluey was the overall No. 1, with just over 1.5 billion minutes on Disney+. Reacher (1.23 billion) reclaimed the top spot among original shows from the prior week‘s leader, Fool Me Once, which fell by more than 50 percent to 1.06 billion minutes of watch time. Netflix’s heist movie Lift grew by 19 percent week-to-week, scoring 1.04 billion minutes.

What was old was extremely new on Netflix in January and even into this month.
Specifically, the Peter Farrelly-created dramedy series about addiction, Loudermilk, which was barely found in its original run on the now-unplugged AT&T Audience Network, became a must-see show on the streamer six-plus years after its original airing.

But that’s not all. Loudermilk hit the top 10 throughout the month of January in Australia,...

The drought is over — or at least, it seems to be ending.
After a slow few months for streaming originals (with the exception of Amazon’s Reacher), several managed to crack Nielsen’s overall Top 10 for the week of January 8 to 14.
The top title this week was Netflix’s Fool Me Once with nearly 2.4B viewing minutes. No surprise there, since the series cracked the streamer’s own most popular list this week. This looks to be the first of many weeks in the Nielsen Top 10 for the show.
Of course, Reacher was still around. This week, the series took No. 3 with just over 1B minutes viewed. With the Season 2 finale approaching in the next measurement period, this seems to be another title that will stick around for a bit.
In its second week on Netflix, The Brothers Sun made it onto the Top 10 at No. 6, raking in 960M minutes viewed across eight episodes.

Netflix’s The Brothers Sun had a solid opening on Nielsen’s streaming charts, but the show took a sizable leap forward in its second week of release.
The series, starring Michelle Yeoh, Sam Song Li and Justin Chien, grew by 38 percent over its debut week to record 960 million minutes of viewing for Jan. 8-14. That was good for third place among original series, behind Fool Me Once (2.4 billion minutes of viewing) — which was also the No. 1 overall title for the second straight week — and Reacher (1.06 billion), which recorded its fifth straight week over the billion-minute mark.
Disney+ and Hulu also saw a good start for Echo, its first binge-released Marvel series and the first Marvel show in the Disney+ era to receive a TV-ma rating. The five-episode show drew 731 million minutes of viewing for the week. That’s above recent premieres for shows like Loki and Secret Invasion, but...

“Echo,” the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s newest TV show, made its debut on Nielsen’s weekly streaming rankings in 10th place for the week of Jan. 8-14. The series was watched for 731 million minutes in its first six days of availability on Disney+.
This marks a success for the MCU, as its TV projects typically fail to make Nielsen’s overall Top 10 chart when they first premiere, instead debuting on the streaming originals chart and progressing towards the overall chart over a matter of weeks. For example, Season 2 of “Loki” premiered in October but didn’t appear on the chart until its finale aired in November.
It should be noted, however, that “Echo” had a measurement advantage: All five episodes of the limited series dropped at once, helping to boost its total minutes watched. With a lack of upcoming episodes, “Echo” will likely also fall off the Nielsen charts more quickly than other Marvel shows.

Loudermilk is a hilarious TV series with gut-bustingly funny scenes, thanks to Ron Livingston's cynical performance and a colorful cast of characters. Memorable moments include outrageous courtroom drama, dark comedy encounters, and hilarious coffee shop squabbles that reveal the character's persona. The show balances comedic chops with genuine sincerity and drama, making it one of the funniest TV shows of the streaming era.
Loudermilk is quickly becoming one of the most irreverent comedy TV series of the streaming era, with plenty of gut-bustingly funny scenes that stand out. The series follows the struggles of Sam Loudermilk, a washed up former music critic and recovering alcoholic Seattleite who finds himself acting as a career counselor, despite his sardonic outlook on life. While it has moments of genuine sincerity and drama, Loudermilk's comedic chops are what help it stand out as one of the funniest TV shows to come out of the 2010s.

Cutter's absence in Loudermilk Season 2 was due to actor Danny Wattley's real-life struggles with substance abuse. The show's executive producer, Peter Farrelly, stated that Wattley has since gone through rehab and is now sober. Plans for Loudermilk Season 4 include the return of Cutter and the resolution of his character's storyline.
The dramedy Loudermilk appeared to drop Danny Wattler’s character Cutter after season 1, but there was a behind-the-scenes reason for the show's choice. Loudermilk is a comedy-drama that focuses on the taciturn music critic Sam Loudermilk, a recovering alcoholic who can’t stop insulting everyone he meets. Although Loudermilk’s personal life is something of a mess, the show’s antihero does his best to act as a counselor for an addiction support group. Loudermilk’s mean streak is tempered by how much he cares about his group’s regulars, even if he is scarcely more prepared to...

A nearly unrecognizable Sofia Vergara playing a cartel boss, a new retelling of the story of the Uruguayan rugby team that crash-landed in the Andes in 1972, Kevin Hart assembling a team for a daring heist and Dan Levy dealing with loss and grief are among the standout projects hitting Netflix this January.
Spanish director J.A. Bayona’s Society of the Snow lands on Netflix on Jan. 4. DC’s “The Flash” is set to stream on Warner Bros. Discovery’s Max starting Aug. 25.
The first-ever standalone feature film for Barry Allen, which stars Ezra Miller and is directed by Andy Muschetti, follows the titular superhero as he uses his powers to travel back in time to change the events of the past.
But when his attempt to save his family inadvertently alters the future, Barry becomes trapped in a reality in which General Zod has returned, threatening annihilation, and there are no Super Heroes to turn to. That is, unless Barry can coax a very different Batman out of retirement and rescue an imprisoned Kryptonian… albeit not the one he’s looking for.
The streaming announcement comes as the film was a commercial disappointment when it hit theaters back in May. It grossed $108 million domestically and just $268 million worldwide.

Hitting theaters on June 16th is the long-awaited film, The Flash.
The film was screened at CinemaCon on Tuesday and below are some of the reactions.
The Flash is hands down one of the best superhero films of all time. No joke, The Flash is the ultimate movie going experience as it has a little bit of everything! Action, emotion, heart, humor and plenty of nostalgia. Ezra Miller is phenomenal as dual Barry Allens. Michael… pic.twitter.com/F7SHA30vZM

Just saw the first ever public screening of The Flash at CinemaCon. It is a dazzling trip thru time as the DC universe indeed flashes before our eyes. Not just a great new addition to DC but a wild and surprising tribute to what came before. A triumph for Ezra and Keatons return.

I’m honestly floored it’s this good.

Exclusive: Jack Black and brothers Bobby and Peter Farrelly, the team behind the 2001 comedy Shallow Hal, look to be reuniting for the holidays — and bringing an infamous character along for the sleigh ride. Sources tell Deadline that Black is set to star in the Christmas comedy Dear Santa with Bobby Farrelly set to direct and Peter Farrelly on board to produce with Bobby and Jeremy Kramer.
