When you have to live in solitary for a year, with next to no contact with the outside world, how do you pass the time? Well, music is probably going to play a big part.
And indeed it does in Apple TV+’s new film “The Gorge.” Now streaming, the movie centers on two assassins from different countries, hired to each operate a guard tower on either side of a massive gorge. Why? Well, there are creatures down there, and those creatures can never get out.
The two guards are forbidden from ever contacting each other, but they don’t exactly follow that rule, eventually falling in love. And, as we mentioned, music is a piece of their communication.
So, here are all the songs in “The Gorge.”

Cynthia Erivo is wicked good, and GLAAD knows it.
The advocacy group said Wednesday that the Wicked star will receive its Stephen F. Kolzak Award, which is presented to a LGBTQ media professional who has made a significant difference in raising visibility and promoting acceptance of LGBTQ people and issues. The singer, actor and force for equity and inclusion will be lauded at the 36th annual GLAAD Media Awards on March 27 in Los Angeles.
Erivo’s much-honored career includes a Tony, Grammy and Daytime Emmy for 2016’s The Color Purple to go with a Primetime Emmy nomination and three Oscar noms. She is vying again in this year’s stacked Best Actress Oscar race for Wicked, and reprises her Elphaba role in the upcoming bookender Wicked: For Good, which hits theaters November 21.

There’s a riot going on in Questlove’s follow-up to his Oscar-winning concert doc Summer of Soul, not least in the wardrobe department. Blazing a trail for the funkadelic/glam rock ’70s with metallic, tasseled jumpsuits that often literally tied themselves up with a bow in the middle, Sly Stone is long overdue for a film about his part in reconfiguring the face of popular music.
Everyone remembers — or, more importantly, is routinely obliged to remember — Elvis Presley and The Doors showing their faces on The Ed Sullivan Show. But less often highlighted is the 1968 appearance by Sly and the Family Stone, which saw its charismatic singer jump into the largely white, middle-aged male audience during a rousing medley of hits that included snippets of a song that would soon become “I Want to Take You Higher”.

At the age of 37, Cynthia Erivo has already had a richly varied career, winning a Tony, an Emmy and a Grammy and channeling Harriet Tubman in “Harriet” and Aretha Franklin in “Genius: Aretha.”
So why does it seem as if she might have been born to play the iconic Wicked Witch of the West in “Wicked,” Jon M. Chu’s musical movie adaptation of author Gregory Maguire’s 1995 “Wizard of Oz” prequel novel and its 2003 Broadway musical?
As Elphaba, the name the witch had before she became known simply as wicked, Erivo uses the film to take a dramatic turn that has landed her both at the top of the box-office charts and in the awards picture. Beyond her renditions of Stephen Schwartz’s beloved “Defying Gravity,” “The Wizard and I,” “I’m Not That Girl” and other numbers, she illuminates a richly textured emotional landscape within the west-bound witch everyone thinks they know.

With her Best Comedy/Music Actress Golden Globes nomination on Monday, “Wicked” star Cynthia Erivo is now a four-time Globes nominee. But as Erivo tells Gold Derby, the recognition feels different this time around because it’s happening with a group of close friends by her side.
“This time I get to do this with the people I love,” Erivo tells Gold Derby in an interview recorded Monday after the Golden Globes nominations. She was a previous film nominee as an actress and songwriter for “Harriet” and then an actress nominee for the television limited series “Genius: Aretha.”
“The last time I felt a little solo and though loads of people put the work in, at those awards ceremonies you’re sat by yourself,” she adds. “You don’t really have a lot of people around you and this time around I think we can go and have a good time together.

This wicked witch cleaned up with the Golden Globes voters.
As expected, the blockbuster hit “Wicked” landed several 2025 Golden Globe Award nominations on Monday, including Best Comedy/Musical, Best Comedy/Musical Actress for Cynthia Erivo, Best Supporting Actress for Ariana Grande, and Best Cinematic and Box Office Achievement, the category which the Golden Globes award “to the year’s most acclaimed, highest-earning and/or most viewed films that have garnered extensive global audience support and attained cinematic excellence.”
But despite its impressive windfall, director Jon M. Chu failed to land a nomination for Best Director. Instead, the Golden Globes voters leaned more high-brow with directing nominations for Jacques Audiard (“Emilia Pérez”), Sean Baker (“Anora”), Brady Corbet (“The Brutalist”), Edward Berger (“Conclave”), and two surprises: Coralie Fargeat (“The Substance”) and Payal Kapadia (“All We Imagine as Light”).
Since its release in November, “Wicked” has become a true phenomenon with more than $400 million in ticket sales.

Aaron Pierre, the star of Netflix’s Rebel Ridge, has nabbed the plum part of Green Lantern John Stewart in DC Studios’ and HBO’s much-ballyhooed series Lanterns.
The casting caps one of the more scrutinized actor searches in some time. Not only is the show the first major TV endeavor from DC Studios heads James Gunn and Peter Safran, but the role of Stewart carries much significance, as the fan-favorite comic book character was one of DC’s first Black superheroes.
The intense casting process came down to Pierre and Stephan James, who is on the festival circuit with drama The Piano Lesson and who starred in the 2016 Jesse Owens biopic Race. Both participated in screen tests, with the actors squaring off against the already cast Kyle Chandler on Thursday and Friday. Each actor had their boosters, but the final decision was made Tuesday.

Green Lantern has had a rough history on film. In 2011, Warner Bros. bet on the hero being their Iron Man; a B-lister underdog who could kick off a blockbuster franchise. "Green Lantern" starring Ryan Reynolds did not fly high so the character was almost completely absent from the DC Extended Universe. (None of the major Green Lanterns show up in either cut of "Justice League.")
Now, James Gunn and Peter Safran's DC Studios is again looking to make the Green Lantern Corps an early fixture of their DC Films. Nathan Fillion is playing Guy Gardner in 2025's "Superman" and a "Lanterns" TV series is currently in development at HBO. A "True Detective" style murder mystery, "Lanterns" will star the two most famous comic Green Lanterns: Hal Jordan and John Stewart (not the one from "The Daily Show").
Kyle Chandler has recently been cast as Hal Jordan, so what about John?...

An image posted to social media has turned the popular fan cast of Jensen Ackles as Batman on its head by imagining the DC voice actor as another superhero instead. Ackles is perhaps most well known for portraying Dean Winchester in Supernatural, but is already well-versed in DC productions after appearing as Jason Teague in Smallville and voicing Jason Todd and Batman in various animated productions. His experience with the animated version of Batman has caused many fans to call for his casting as the Caped Crusader in the Dcu.

Aaron Pierre has garnered critical acclaim for his performance in Rebel Ridge, but he has another big 2024 movie coming up, with this new movie paying off a streaming role from three years ago. While Aaron Pierre has been acting for a few years, 2024 seems to be a major breakthrough year for the actor, with him starring in season 4 of Genius as Malcolm X, starring in the Netflix hit Rebel Ridge, and starring in a film that is expected to be one of the biggest hits of 2024.
Rebel Ridge was first released on Netflix in September 2024, with it immediately taking off and becoming one of the most popular Netflix original movies of the year. The film stars Aaron Pierre as Terry Richmond, a former Marine who decides to take revenge on a local police department after they seize money that was meant to be his cousin's bail. Early in his acting career, Aaron Pierre heard he was too tall to ever convincingly convey emotion onscreen. The passing remark stayed with Pierre, who, standing at 6 foot, 3 inches, has spent much of his career disproving that notion with memorable characters on stage and screen.
After starting out in London theater, Pierre broke out as an enslaved man fighting for freedom in Barry Jenkins’ historical limited series “The Underground Railroad” and as a rapper cheekily named “Mid-Sized Sedan” in M. Night Shyamalan’s existential horror film “Old.” But this year marks a new career-high for the 30-year-old English performer, who became the latest actor to reexamine the legacy of Malcolm X in the fourth season of National Geographic’s anthology series “Genius” and will debut as the rich baritone voice of Mufasa in Jenkins’ new “Lion King” prequel this December.

Exclusive: It doesn’t happen often, but Ron Howard is here in Toronto today to unveil at the Toronto Film Festival his new film Eden. What’s unusual for the Oscar winner whose films have grossed billions, is that the film is up for grabs for distribution as an acquisition title. Eden might seem a close cousin to his harrowing Thai rescue film Thirteen Lives, but this one has a sinister edge unusual for Howard. Based on a true story, Eden stars Jude Law, Sydney Sweeney, Vanessa Kirby, Daniel Bruehl, Ana de Armas, Toby Wallace and Felix Kammerer as the members of three parties who flee post-wwi civilization to start over and build paradise on the Galapagos Islands. It devolves into a Lord of the Flies battle to survive the elements, and each other. Eden‘s world premiere is set for 5:45 p.m. tonight at Roy Thomson Hall.

Many movies have been made about soldiers whose skill set proves out of step once they re-enter the civilian world. Some of them treat those differences with empathy and insight; but more often than not, they leverage them for explosive, empty action sequences. “Rebel Ridge” mostly falls perfunctorily in the latter category.
Written and directed by Jeremy Saulnier (“Green Room”), the film’s focus on a Black soldier adds degrees of complexity to the conflicts that erupt between him and local law enforcement in a small, mostly white town. But if racial politics (cinematic and otherwise) prompt Saulnier to treat him marginally more thoughtfully than most movie veterans, the filmmaker’s obligations to genre formula end up overshadowing those differences by the time the last empty, explosive action sequence has unfolded.

Can you feel the love tonight? The audience at D23 certainly could as they were greeted to the world premiere trailer of Barry Jenkins’ upcoming “Lion King” prequel, “Mufasa: The Lion King.” Production on the film has been underway for years, but the wait is finally nearing an end as it’s set to be released in theaters December 20 of this year, just in time for Christmas.
Jenkins’ “Mufasa” uses the same photorealistic imagery present in Jon Favreau’s remake of “The Lion King” from 2019 and will also feature some of the same voice cast including Donald Glover, Beyoncé Knowles-Carter, Seth Rogen, Billy Eichner, and John Kani. The narrative is said to be told from the perspective of Rafiki communicating the story of one of Pride Land’s great leaders to Simba and Nala’s child, Kiara, played by Beyoncé’s actual daughter, Blue Ivy Carter. Other new cast members...

Longtime National Geographic marketing and communications exec Chris Albert, known for his stylish sartorial choices themed to the channel’s various events (and spawning the social media hashtag “#wearischris”), is departing the company after more than two decades.
The exec will oversee Nat Geo’s presence at the D23 confab this weekend, and then plans to exit after Labor Day, when his current contract expires. “This is obviously a very bittersweet decision, but I am truly excited about the future,” he wrote to staffers. “My two decades at this company have been marked by so many incredible memories and accomplishments, but what I am most proud of is this team that we have assembled, many of us working together for more than a decade.”
Albert is believed to have been planning his exit for some time, and the news is unrelated to last week’s announcement that National Geographic would lay off 60 employees,...

Twenty years ago, Paul Lindsay bought a one-way ticket from New York to California with only $125 in his pocket and without telling anyone in his family, other than his cousin in LA, whose couch he hoped to crash on.
The New School grad “hustled” his way onto film sets by donning a headset and looking important. He got hired as a Pa and later as an assistant director on top shows like “Six Feet Under,” Grey’s Anatomy,” “Westworld” and the Jordan Peele feature “Us.”
Now the 53-year-old is shuttling between Los Angeles and Atlanta to find enough work to keep his Hollywood dream alive.
“From when I was young, all I wanted to do was make movies,” Lindsay told TheWrap. “And I finally got there but I may not be afforded to finish that journey.”
These days, the calls or text that used to lead to jobs — or at least...
