In Hans Petter Moland’s “Absolution,” Liam Neeson looks exhausted. His character has been beating people up for money for as long as he can remember, and here he is, at it again. The incessant drone of meaningless violence has taken its toll and now he’s just going through the motions. Unfortunately, it looks like Neeson has a similar problem: He’s trapped once again in tired tough guy material, bringing gravity to a film that’s already dragging him — and the audience — down.
Liam Neeson has had a fascinating career, and he’s spent a lot of it balancing mature dramas and action films. But in the last decade-and-a-half, the balance shifted and many of his roles are now aging tough guys on one last crusade, committing murders which also somehow save his broken family. Even the comedic parts usually play off his deadly dad persona: “Missile Tow,...

Yes, even though we’re a few weeks into Fall the box office is still ruled by kid-friendly flicks about CGI-animated robots (top two on the charts last weekend). And this new release hopes to follow, though it’s actually a “kid-flick” about a group of teens starring a pack of young thespians (and a couple of older vets too). Plus they’re embarking on an adventure just perfect for spooky October (and no they don’t have a big cowardly pooch). Now the Little Rascals (or Our gang) trekked through many haunted abodes, but that theme didn’t really invade features until the 1980s with The Goonies and those underdogs in The Monster Squad (a cult fave). In the last couple of years, the Ghostbusters have included several youngsters, but there are no “proto-packs” around for the minors trying to survive a Monster Summer.

Stars: John Cena, Alison Brie, Juan Pablo Raba, Christian Slater, Alice Eve, Marton Csokas, Sebastian Eslava | Written by Jacob Lentz | Directed by Pierre Morel
Freelance, the latest film from WWE star turned actor John Cena, delivers an engaging mix of action and comedy, elements that Cena has increasingly become known for. Directed by Pierre Morel, this film pairs Cena with Alison Brie in a fast-paced narrative that explores themes of survival and unexpected camaraderie.
In Freelance, Cena plays an ex-special forces operative who is lured out of retirement to protect a journalist (played by Alison Brie) on an assignment in a war-torn country. What begins as a seemingly straightforward protection detail quickly spirals into chaos as they find themselves embroiled in a political conspiracy, forcing them to rely on each other and their wits to stay alive.
Cena’s portrayal of a seasoned, yet somewhat jaded, operative showcases his growing versatility as an actor.

Mark Wahlberg becomes a wilderness pilot-turned-psychotic hitman in the official trailer for Mel Gibson’s latest directorial effort, Flight Risk, which dropped on Thursday.
With an echo of Con Air, Wahlberg in the role of Daryl is at the controls of a plane transporting air marshal Madolyn, played by Michelle Dockery, and a fugitive (Topher Grace) headed to trial in New York City to testify against the Moretti crime family.
But as they cross Alaskan airspace, and a cover of the Talking Heads “Psycho Killer” is heard in the trailer score, Daryl is revealed as a balding mob assassin intent on killing the informant. “Mr. Moretti’s very disappointed in you, Winston. And he wants you dead,” the pilot says in the teaser for Gibson’s suspense thriller.
After a fight at 10,000 feet, Madolyn manages to subdue and handcuff the pilot but now needs help keeping everyone aloft. “Tell me how to fly this thing,...

Lionsgate has released the trailer for Mel Gibson’s high-flying action thriller “Flight Risk,” starring Mark Wahlberg.
Per an official logline, the film follows “a pilot (Wahlberg) transporting an Air Marshal (Michelle Dockery) accompanying a fugitive (Topher Grace) to trial. As they cross the Alaskan wilderness, tensions soar and trust is tested, as not everyone on board is who they seem.”
“Flight Risk” marks the third collaboration between Gibson and Wahlberg. The first was in the 2017 comedy “Daddy’s Home 2,” followed by “Father Stu” in 2022. This will be Wahlberg’s first time acting under Gibson as a director.
A sneak peek of the “Flight Risk” trailer first debuted at Cinemacon 2024 in Las Vegas. Variety executive editor Brent Lang described Wahlberg’s character as “balding and psychotic” with a “Southern accent and flashes of a sociopathic glint in his eye.”

After Daddy’s Home 2 and Father Stu, Mark Wahlberg is once again joining hands with Mel Gibson for Flight Risk which will hit theatres later this year. Clearly, Mel Gibson is completely focused on rebuilding his name in the industry after being in the dead center of many controversies in the late 2000s.

“Flight Risk,” an aviation thriller starring Mark Wahlberg and directed by Mel Gibson, will land on Oct. 18, 2024, while Dave Bautista-led action-comedy “The Killer’s Game” will debut on Sept. 13, 2024. Meanwhile, Gerard Butler’s sequel “Den of Thieves: Pantera” will open on Jan. 10, 2025.
“Flight Risk” is scheduled to debut on the big screen alongside Paramount’s “Smile 2.” In “Flight Risk,” Wahlberg plays a balding and psychotic mob hitman who tricks a federal agent into allowing him to pilot a plane carrying an informant (Topher Grace) out of a remote area. The movie reunites Gibson and Wahlberg, who worked together in the past on “Father Stu” and “Daddy’s Home 2.”

Mark Wahlberg promised that he gets to show a very different side of himself in “Flight Risk,” a new thriller from Mel Gibson. And based on the trailer that Lionsgate shared at CinemaCon on Thursday, that’s no exaggeration. Wahlberg, who specializes in square-jawed heroes, is balding and psychotic, playing a mob hit man who tricks a federal agent into allowing him to pilot a plane carrying an informant out of a remote area.

It may come as a surprise to some that Mel Gibson is indeed still working. Not only that, but one of his recent thrillers — 2022's "On the Line" — was ranked one of the three most-watched films on Netflix in the last week. It seems that despite his ... controversies ... Gibson is still able to draw an audience.
For those too young to remember, Gibson was arrested in Los Angeles for driving under the influence. Upon his arrest, Gibson unleashed a drunken tirade that included several sexist and antisemitic remarks that were leaked to the public by TMZ. Gibson's antisemitic comments only calcified what many critics had theorized about the filmmaker when he made "The Passion of the Christ" in 2004, a film that was accused of leaning into antisemitic stereotypes. Gibson publicly apologized for the comments, went into recovery, and has been clean ever since. In 2010, however, Gibson was recorded making threatening,...

Since the ’80s, several pro-wrestling giants have attempted to transition into the realm of movies, but only a few did manage to prevail on the silver screen. And similar was the case for John Cena for nearly a decade, when he started out in showbiz back in the 2000s but was met with little success, as his movies failed to make it big at the box office.
While it seemed his acting career might’ve been heading towards the same track as Hulk Hogan, Stone Cold Steve Austin, and Triple H’s run in showbiz, one change ended up salvaging his career.

The Efron-assaince is still in full swing. Zac Efron continues his career comeback on the heels of his buzzy turn in critically acclaimed “The Iron Claw” by teaming up again with his “The Greatest Beer Run Ever” director Peter Farrelly. Yet this time, Efron and Farrelly are both returning to their comedy roots with the Prime Video feature “Ricky Stanicky.”
Farrelly directs from a screenplay he co-wrote with Jeff Bushell, Brian Jarvis, James Lee Freeman, Pete Jones, and Mike Cerrone. The film follows a trio of childhood best friends who long ago devised the perfect (and imaginary) scapegoat pal to blame all their wild adventures on. However, now that they are adults, they actually need to answer for their immaturity … by hiring a make-believe friend (John Cena) to fill that fake role.

Social media users recently marveled that last month marked 20 years since three modern Christmas favorites — New Line’s Elf, Universal’s Love Actually and Miramax’s Bad Santa — all hit theaters within weeks of each other. Two decades later, you don’t need to feel like a cotton-headed ninny-muggins if you’re among those wondering why studios don’t release holiday theatrical offerings in the way they once did.
Although most Christmas films don’t tend to follow the path of, say, 1990’s Home Alone, which topped the domestic box office for a whopping 12 straight weeks, they had typically been a staple of the release calendar, with a handful of titles hitting theaters annually, as recently as the late 2010s. That list includes such 2016 theatrical offerings as Almost Christmas, Bad Santa 2, Office Christmas Party and Why Him?, followed by 2017’s Daddy’s Home 2, A Bad Moms Christmas and animated...

Kenneth Branagh is back both in front of and behind the camera for another Agatha Christie adaptation in the form of "A Haunting in Venice." Based on one of the author's lesser-known Hercule Poirot mysteries "Hallowe'en Party," this will give Branagh's trilogy a more overtly spooky spin than his previous two adaptations, "Murder on the Orient Express" and "Death on the Nile." The big question is how this entry will perform commercially. Will it be a surprise fall success story like "Murder" before it? Or will it suffer theatrically like "Death" did last year?
Box Office Pro currently has the star-studded "A Haunting in Venice" taking in anywhere between $11 and $16 million on its opening weekend. That would be much closer to "Death on the Nile," which opened to $12.8 million in February 2022, when it was competing directly with the Super Bowl. Lionsgate has nabbed global distribution for “Flight Risk,” an action-thriller starring Mark Wahlberg and directed by Mel Gibson. This will mark the first film Gibson has directed since his blockbuster ($175 million on a $40 million budget) and Oscar-nominated “Hacksaw Ridge” in 2016. The mini-major will be launching the project, featuring Wahlberg as a pilot transporting a dangerous criminal for trial, at Cannes.
“We love the undeniable electric pairing of Mel Gibson and Mark Wahlberg,” Lionsgate Motion Picture Group chair Joe Drake said. “These world-class talents combining for this dynamic, character-driven film will make ‘Flight Risk’ one of the most suspense-filled, must-see events of the year.”
Wahlberg and Gibson have starred in a few projects together, including “Daddy’s Home 2” and last year’s faith-based “Father Stu.” Considering the number of high-concept or true-story action movies Wahlberg has made with director Peter Berg over the last decade, it is a mild surprise that Gibson will be in charge.

The odds-on favorite “Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore,” the third entry in the “Harry Potter” spinoff series, is expected to debut to at least 40 million from 4,200 North American theaters. Those ticket sales should be enough to surpass the competition — unless last weekend’s champion “Sonic the Hedgehog 2” powers to another strong turnout at the movies. Paramount’s kid friendly sequel opened last weekend to huge 72 million and could add 30 million to 40 million in its second outing.
Elsewhere, Sony Pictures is getting an early start by bringing “Father Stu,” an R-rated faith based drama starring Mark Wahlberg and Mel Gibson, to theaters on Wednesday. The movie is projected to earn 7 million from 2,705 cinemas in its first five days of release.

The controversial stars have teamed up for a film made by Gibson’s girlfriend Rosalind Ross about the power of redemption
Like it or not, Mel Gibson’s professional rehabilitation is gaining momentum. Ever since his career exploded in a mess of drunkenness, antisemitism, domestic abuse and a string of genuinely horrifying voicemails, Gib has slowly set about clawing himself out from the hole he dug for himself. It started small, with bit parts in sequels like Machete 2, The Expendables 3 and Daddy’s Home 2. It picked up speed with his Oscar-nominated film Hacksaw Ridge, and then hit a pothole with Fatman, where he played a grizzled and embittered Santa Claus. And now it seems unstoppable.
Gibson’s upcoming projects include a CIA thriller in which he stars alongside Jason Isaacs, a John Wick spin-off series and a Lethal Weapon sequel that he also plans to direct. But before all that comes Father Stu.

As Europe cracks down on moviegoing and ski tourism to stem Covid-19 infections, Dubai-based exhibitor Vox Cinemas is instead launching a movie theater in an indoor ski resort being touted as the Middle East’s first cinema in the snow.
Located inside Dubai’s Mall of the Emirates — which is home to the city’s indoor, snow-covered ski hill and to penguin shows — Vox Cinema’s new Snow Cinema features socially-distanced lounge-style seating and a wide range of comfort food options. Besides popcorn, they comprise: hot chocolate, also peppermint flavored, and a savory menu that includes roasted baby potatoes topped with raclette, hotdogs and burgers, all to be followed by “decadent desserts such as festive mince pies and gingerbread Dutch pancakes,” according to promotional materials.

There’s an interesting idea for a movie in “Fatman,” which seeks to spin a bleak and wintry hitman tale into a deadpan dark Christmas comedy by making Santa Claus the target of that hired killer. It never makes it past the idea stage, unfortunately, since mixing these disparate genres together would require an absolute mastery of tone that the film can’t quite muster.
Writers-directors Ian Nelms and Eshom Nelms (“Small Town Crime”) certainly can’t be faulted for ambition, but their big idea doesn’t make it all the way down the chimney.
Despicable rich child Billy already has a working relationship with the assassin known as the Skinny Man (Walton Goggins), having recently hired him to kidnap a classmate to force her to give Billy a science-fair prize he thought was rightfully his. When Billy’s wicked ways earn him coal from Santa Claus (Mel Gibson), the...

Saban Films has bought U.S. rights to the dark comedy “Fatman,” starring Mel Gibson, Walton Goggins and Marianne Jean-Baptiste, for release at the end of this year.
“Fatman” centers on a neglected and precocious 12-year-old who hires a hitman to kill Santa Claus after receiving a lump of coal in his stocking. Gibson portrays a rowdy Santa who’s facing a decline in business.
“Fatman” is written and directed by the siblings Eshom and Ian Nelms, and produced by Fortitude International’s Nadine de Barros and Mammoth Entertainment’s Todd Courtney, with Rbl Studios’ Michelle Lang, Zed Filmworks’ Robert Menzies and Skywolf Media’s Lisa Wolofsky. The pic marks Saban Films’ second collaboration with the Nelms brothers following “Small Town Crime.”

Mel Gibson battled coronavirus in April, coming down with a case severe enough to require the 64-year old actor and director to be hospitalized. The “Braveheart” star is the latest celebrity to go public with a positive Covid-19 diagnosis, joining a list that includes Idris Elba, Tom Hanks, Rita Wilson, Pink, and Daniel Dae Kim.
“He tested positive in April and spent a week in the hospital,” a spokesperson for Gibson said in a statement to People magazine. “He was treated with the drug Remdesivir while in the hospital, and has tested negative numerous times since then, as well as positive for the antibodies.”
Gibson was reportedly treated in Los Angeles. The Oscar-winning actor and director recently made headlines after Winona Ryder accused Gibson of making anti-Semitic and homophobic comments in a June interview with The Sunday Times. Gibson called her allegations “100% untrue” and accused Ryder of lying about his remarks.

For some things, being a fan is almost like being part of a cult, it makes the utmost sense to you but not very much to others. And when it comes to the Eurovision song contest, it is one hell of a wild, weird, embracing and wonderful world to immerse yourself in. Arguably no movie can capture what Eurovision is because it is in itself magical, parodic and downright bonkers but in the unlikely and unexpected delight that is Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga we have a movie befitting of Eurovision.
Hailing from the town of Húsavík in Iceland, best friends since childhood Sigrit (Rachel McAdams) and Lars (Will Ferrell) have lifelong lofty dreams of not only entering but winning the Eurovision song contest and come 2020, call it fate, hope or a miracle but they get the chance to sing on the big stage for their country as duo Fire Saga.

Come July 1st, Netflix will be adding the 2016 crime drama Patriots Day to its online library. The film, which stars Mark Wahlberg as a Boston cop, is worth checking out not only because it tells a gripping story based on real-life investigations of the Boston Marathon Bomber, but also because it features one of the best performances the actor has ever delivered.
That last part is particularly important because, like many popular American actors, Wahlberg has starred in a lot of bad movies over the course of his career. From painfully unfunny comedies like Ted to truly cringe-worthy titles like Daddy’s Home 2, the actor holds a candle to performers like Ben Stiller and Adam Sandler when it comes to bad repertoires.
But, also like many popular American talents, Wahlberg has starred in some truly great movies, too, ones which his performances helped elevate. And should you finish Patriots Day...

Ryder accused Gibson of making anti-Semitic and anti-gay comments in a recent interview with the Sunday Times. She has told similar stories in the past, including in a 2010 GQ profile.

Will Ferrell’s singing voice is like a combination of Fergie and Jesus, which makes him the perfect choice to get involved in an international singing competition, which his character does in the upcoming Netflix film, fully titled Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga.
Ferrell was heavily involved with Eurovision, having co-written the script with frequent collaborator Andrew Steele, and also served as co-star and producer. The feature was directed by David Dobkin.
The premise is based on the long running international TV music competition, The Eurovision Song Contest. The contest, created in 1956, pits each participating nation from the European Broadcasting Union against one another, challenging them to write and perform an original song for a live TV and radio performance. Notable past winners include Sweden’s Abba in 1974 and Switzerland’s Celine Dion in 1988.

Mark Wahlberg is in early negotiations with streaming giant Netflix to produce and star in spy movie “Our Man in New Jersey.”
Should the deal be made, Wahlberg would portray a blue-collar 007 James Bond-type character. “Safe House” writer David Guggenheim is also in talks to develop the script. Stephen Levinson, who came up with the story idea, would produce with Wahlberg.
Wahlberg and Levinson worked with Netflix on the action-comedy “Spenser Confidential,” which began streaming on March 6 with Wahlberg in the title role and producing. Levinson also produced along with Neal H. Moritz, Toby Ascher and director Peter Berg.
Wahlberg’s most recent feature films include “Transformers: The Last Knight,” “Mile 22,” “Daddy’s Home 2” and “Instant Family.” He recently wrapped shooting the independent drama “Good Joe Bell,” directed by Reinaldo Marcus Green with Reid Miller, Connie Britton, Maxwell Jenkins and Gary Sinise also starring. The time really is perfect for a film like Like A Boss, a movie about two female friends testing their sisterhood bond when challenged with a big money job that might make their business hit big in the cosmetics industry. With the awesome strength of women being at the core of so many successful and acclaimed motion pictures of late, this could be another offering that has a lot to say about the modern woman. Plus, with a strong cast, it seems like a winning formula? Right? Why is it then, that this film comes limping into its UK release off the back of some woeful reviews Stateside, and an equally limp box office taking? Is this an unfairly judged diamond, or is it a messy misfire? Sadly, I must report it is more the latter… only much worse.

It might be a bit surprising to see the beloved Judi Dench in contention for an award calling out the worst achievements in film, but such was the effect of “Cats,” the widely ridiculed movie musical that leads this year’s Razzie noms. Mark Wahlberg’s latest movie “Spenser Confidential” is based on intellectual property, boasts an A-list cast and director, blends action, comedy and mystery and is so personal to the actor that it feels like the quintessential Mark Wahlberg movie. And yet the actor says if it weren’t for Netflix, it might not have been made at all.
“Spenser Confidential” marks the first time the movie star has worked with Netflix on a film, and Wahlberg said in an interview with TheWrap that the movie’s smaller, character-driven nature and genre-blending likely wouldn’t have happened at another studio.
“I don’t think there would be too many studios that would have the confidence to go and make a movie that is just a character driven, throwback buddy comedy,” Wahlberg said. “They’re either making tentpoles or they’re releasing little movies, or some holiday fare. They’re not venturing into that middle ground.

The filmmakers and stars explained the legend of La Llorona to the non-Latinos in the crowd and introduced the actors. ...

Ari Emanuel took a hard-line stance against and fired his then-Wme client Mel Gibson after the actor's 2006 arrest following an alcohol-fueled, anti-Semitic and sexist tirade. Now, more than a decade later, sources tell THR that the Endeavor CEO has been advocating for Gibson in recent deals.

With Wahlberg beneath Gibson's wings, Emanuel encouraged Warner Bros. to give Gibson a part in Six Billion Dollar Man and, according to...

Update 2: John Lithgow (above with Will Ferrell in Daddy's Home 2) has joined Pet Sematary. In the new version, based on Stephen King's novel, Lithgow will portray Jud Crandall, described as "a kindly neighbor," per THR. The role was played by Fred Gwyne in the original film; he introduced his new neighbors to the titular memorial park and explained how things worked. We'll have to wait to see if the new version takes a different path with the character. It's currently set for release on April 19, 2019. (Read our previously-published posts below.) Update 1: Jason Clarke is now in talks in star in the new version of Pet Sematary, according to The Hollywood Reporter. If things work out, he will play the lead role, a doctor who...

Transformers: The Last Knight may have led the nominations for the 38th Razzie Awards with nine nominations, but The Emjoi Movie came out with the most wins... or losses, depending on how you look at it. The Emoji Movie took home the top prize for Worst Picture, Worst Screen Combo, Worst Director, and Worst Screenplay. Fifty Shades Darker won two awards for Worst Supporting Actress and Worst Remake, Rip-Off or Sequel. I also just have to say that I thought Mel Gibson was fun in Daddy's Home 2, but he won Worst Supporting Actor.
You can check out all of the winners below that have been bolded in the list of nominees. Do you agree with their choices? If not, what do you think the worst of the movies were in 2017?

The "winners" for the 38th annual Razzie Awards are dominated by emojis.
The Emoji Movie took the lead in this year's race and “won” four categories, including worst picture, worst screenplay, worst screen combo and worst director for Tony Leondis.
Fifty Shades Darker followed with two wins, including worst supporting actress for Kim Basinger and worst sequel.
Despite Mel Gibson having won the Razzie Redeemer award, last year, for his Oscar-nominated film Hacksaw Ridge, the actor failed to escape this year's winners list. Gibson received an award for worst supporting actor for his rebellious father role in Daddy's Home 2.
