The 1968 special resurrected Presley’s career, and the documentary examines what went on behind the scenes while bringing the show to life for a massive television audience.
“The world is filled with stories about Elvis and his historic 1968 Comeback Special, but no one has ever told this story the way only I can tell it — because I was there for every moment of it,” stated Binder. “I’m so proud of this film because it presents Elvis as he really was, and looks at a specific moment in time — when Elvis took control of his life, his career and his legacy. There’s never been a television moment quite like this one.”

Following a competitive bidding situation, Gigi Pritzker’s indie production company Madison Wells has acquired rights to develop a feature film adaptation of “State of Terror,” a thriller novel by former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and author Louise Penny, the company announced on Thursday.
“State of Terror” centers on novice Secretary of State Ellen Adams, who is unexpectedly brought into the administration by a newly-elected president, her political and personal adversary. Events soon erupt that sweep her into a world of global intrigue and diplomacy where the stakes could not be higher and the potential consequences, both personal and global, could not be greater.
Both Clinton and Penny will serve as executive producers as well as consultants on the film. Clinton will produce via her HiddenLight Productions banner founded by Clinton, Sam Branson and Chelsea Clinton. Gigi Pritzker and Head of Film and TV Rachel Shane will produce for Madison Wells.

Netflix movie The Devil All the Time has released its first trailer, showcasing an impressive ensemble within a bleak piece of dramatic Gothic Americana. Indeed, the film is headlined by Marvel’s current big screen Spider-Man, Tom Holland, opposite DC’s imminently-debuting big screen Batman, Robert Pattinson, setting up a collision course of characters so seemingly epic, it might just make you forget to wish they were in their respective crimefighting outfits.
The film was directed by Antonio Campos, who worked off a script he co-wrote with brother Paulo Campos, adapting Donald Ray Pollock’s 2011 novel of the same name. “90210” alum Trevor Donovan will play a fighter pilot in the World War II action movie “Wolf Hound,” Variety has learned exclusively.
“Wolf Hound” is inspired by the real-life plot designed to fly Allied aircraft as Trojan horses behind enemy lines. The action takes place in 1944 as a fighter pilot escorts a B-17 bomber into Nazi territory and engages in a one-on-one aerial joust with a Nazi ace pilot, destroying both of their planes and forcing them to bail out and parachute to the forest floor.
Donovan will play German ace Major Erich Roth. Donovan’s real-life grandfather served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, along with his uncle Cedrick, who was in the Army and received two Purple Hearts. James Maslow will also star in “Wolf Hound” as a fighter pilot for the Allies.
Michael B. Chait will be making his feature directorial debut with “Wolf Hound.

There are men and then there are myths. Jerry Lee Lewis is the latter. The rock pioneer first set the charts ablaze in 1957 with twin dynamos “Great Balls of Fire” and “Whole Lotta Shakin’ Going On,” and 60 years on he’s still pounding the keys before packed houses across the country. With the death of Chuck Berry in March—and Little Richard and Fats Domino largely retired—Lewis is the last of the great rock ‘n’ rollers still conjuring the sounds of long nights in long gone Delta juke joints. His colleagues at the seminal Memphis label Sun Records, including Elvis Presley,...

All right, gang, I’m going to need for you to bear with me as I take an abrupt left turn for this month’s column. I’ve been wanting to do a John Carpenter movie for a while now, but the problem is that he doesn’t have many “B-sides” that people haven’t talked about ad nauseum. Our very own Patrick Bromley recently covered one of his more relatively obscure entries with Prince of Darkness, and Scott Drebit gave his take on that one with the William Shatner mask. So, to find new territory, I had to go back to 1979, a year after Carpenter released his breakthrough masterpiece, but just before he churned out a series of classics in the early ’80s that would cement his legacy as one of the greatest horror directors of all time. It’s at this tipping point that Carpenter directed a made-for-tv...
