Exclusive: Jennifer Holland, who has played Agent Emilia Harcourt in James Gunn’s DC movie The Suicide Squad and spinoff series Peacemaker, has signed with Strand Entertainment for representation.

Holland has reprised the tough-as-nails Harcourt in such DC movies as Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam and Shazam! Fury of the Gods.

Season 2 of Peacemaker began production back in the spring. The series follows John Cena’s Suicide Squad anti-hero as he’s enlisted for the enigmatic A.R.G.U.S. black ops squad for “Project Butterfly”. His mission is to find and eliminate parasitic butterfly-like creatures who have taken over human bodies. The second season will reportedly premiere after Gunn’s Superman which doesn’t hit theaters until July 11, 2025. Gunn will direct some episodes with Greg Mottola directing others. Tim Meadows is part of season 2.

Maleah Joi Moon has become the 101st performer to win a Tony Award for their first outing on a Broadway stage for her performance in the musical “Hell’s Kitchen.”

She won Best Actress in a Musical at the 77th Tony Awards for portraying Ali, a 17-year-old girl searching for her place in the world while living in the titular New York City neighborhood and also being restrained by her overbearing mother. Following a competitive bidding situation, Gigi Pritzker’s indie production company Madison Wells has acquired rights to develop a feature film adaptation of “State of Terror,” a thriller novel by former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and author Louise Penny, the company announced on Thursday.

“State of Terror” centers on novice Secretary of State Ellen Adams, who is unexpectedly brought into the administration by a newly-elected president, her political and personal adversary. Events soon erupt that sweep her into a world of global intrigue and diplomacy where the stakes could not be higher and the potential consequences, both personal and global, could not be greater.

Both Clinton and Penny will serve as executive producers as well as consultants on the film. Clinton will produce via her HiddenLight Productions banner founded by Clinton, Sam Branson and Chelsea Clinton. Gigi Pritzker and Head of Film and TV Rachel Shane will produce for Madison Wells.

Gigi Prtizker’s Madison Wells banner has a new look, intended to reflect the company’s commitment to “spotlighting stories for, by and about badass women, as well as people who love pushing boundaries.”

Founded in 2015 by Pritzker, Madison Wells’ focus has been on bringing meaningful stories to life via film, television, theatre and podcasting, with projects that have ranged projects have ranged from Broadway musicals “Million Dollar Quartet” and “Hadestown” to National Geographic’s limited series “Genius” to the immersive art experience “Nevermore Park.”

The veteran producer — whose personal resume also includes “Drive,” ”Green Street Hooligans,” “Ender’s Game” and “Hell or High Water” — tells Variety that the need for a fresh start was inspired by the happenings of the last 18 months, which she notes have been a period of “thoughtful reflection.”

“I wanted to take this opportunity to more sharply focus and articulate our purpose as storytellers,” Pritzker explained.

Cowboy Jack Clement, legendary in music circles for everything from being present at the birth of rock ‘n’ roll at Sun Studios to writing hits for Johnny Cash to eventually working with U2, has been pegged as the subject of a feature film that Nashville’s Visionary Media Group has signed a deal with Clement’s estate to develop.

Additionally, plans are afoot for an all-star album that would have singers and songwriters that knew Clement finishing and recording unfinished songs that he left behind. Clement died in 2013 at age 82, just a few months after being named as an inductee into the Country Music Hall of Fame.

Ghetto Film School, in partnership with Madison Wells, is launching the Ghetto Film School Melissa Rucker Fund for young filmmakers.

The fund honors Rucker, the former producer and development executive at Madison Wells who was committed to inclusivity in the industry. Rucker passed away late last year after nurturing the careers and stories of playwrights Minhal Baig and Molly Smith Metzler, directors Haifaa al-Mansour and Tina Mabry, novelist Emma Straub and several others. She’s credited with advocating for new talent, especially creatives from underrepresented backgrounds.

The organizations will hold the first-ever New Voices: The Melissa Rucker Conversations on Thursday to raise money for the Ghetto Film School Melissa Rucker Fellows Fund. The “Suicide Squad” spinoff series “Peacemaker” at HBO Max has cast Robert Patrick, Jennifer Holland, and Chris Conrad.

The trio joins previously announced series lead John Cena and cast members Danielle Brooks and Steve Agee. Patrick will star as Auggie Smith, while Holland will reprise her role from James Gunn’s “Suicide Squad” as Emilia Harcourt. Holland will appear as Vigilante/Adrian Chase. Cena and Agee are also reprising their roles from the film.

The series is said to explore the origins of Peacemaker, a man who believes in peace at any cost, no matter how many people he has to kill to get it. Production is slated to begin in early 2021, prior to Gunn starting work on “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.” “The Suicide Squad” is set to be released in theaters Aug. 6, 2021.

Exclusive: Actor-comedian Billy Gardell, star of Chuck Lorre’s new CBS comedy series Bob ♥ Abishola, has signed with UTA in all areas.

This marks the second series with Lorre for Gardell, who also starred opposite Melissa McCarthy on Mike & Molly, which aired on CBS for six seasons. Bob ♥ Abishola was developed and sold to CBS last year with Gardell on board as a lead. It was greenlighted to pilot, which was picked up to series and slated to air Mondays 8:30 Pm this fall. He stars opposite Folake Olowofoyeku.

Gardell also has been recurring on another Lorre CBS comedy series, Young Sheldon and co-starred on the 2017 Cmt limited series Sun Records. In addition to his acting career, Gardell has a lucrative comedy touring business that has spawned multiple TV standup specials.

This marks a return to UTA for Gardell after a brief stint at Apa.

Chad Michael Murray has been cast in the recurring role of Edgar Evernever on The CW’s “Riverdale.”

The “Star” actor, also known for his role on “One Tree Hill,” will play the enigmatic leader of the cult-like Farm. Thinkfactory Media CEO Leslie Greif is departing the production company, which he launched in 2011. The move comes as ITV Plc has acquired the remainder of Thinkfactory Media five years after Greif sold a 65% stake to the UK-based media conglom. He will launch a new entertainment venture.

Adam Reed, a 14-year Thinkfactory Media veteran, has been named new CEO. Likely in preparation for the transition, Greif promoted Reed to President of Thiunkfactory in 2016. Overseeing all aspects of production, creative and business development for the company, Reed has helped grow its footprint.

Variety has learned that Gardell is attached to star in a comedy series that has received a pilot production commitment at the broadcaster. The project is titled “Bob Hearts Abishola.” Gardell would play a man who has a heart attack and falls in love with his Nigerian nurse. He then sets his sights on getting her to give him a chance.

The series hails from writers Chuck Lorre, Eddie Gorodetsky, Al Higgins, and Gina Yashere, with Lorre, Gorodetsky, and Higgins also serving as executive producers. Chuck Lorre Productions Inc. will produce in association with Warner Bros. Television, where Lorre is under an overall deal.

“90210” alum Trevor Donovan will play a fighter pilot in the World War II action movie “Wolf Hound,” Variety has learned exclusively.

“Wolf Hound” is inspired by the real-life plot designed to fly Allied aircraft as Trojan horses behind enemy lines. The action takes place in 1944 as a fighter pilot escorts a B-17 bomber into Nazi territory and engages in a one-on-one aerial joust with a Nazi ace pilot, destroying both of their planes and forcing them to bail out and parachute to the forest floor.

Donovan will play German ace Major Erich Roth. Donovan’s real-life grandfather served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, along with his uncle Cedrick, who was in the Army and received two Purple Hearts. James Maslow will also star in “Wolf Hound” as a fighter pilot for the Allies.

Larry Rippenkroeger, a champion jet skier who has credits as a stuntman in more than 150 feature films and TV shows, is directing from his own script. His recent stunt credits include “Transformers: The Last Knight” and “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.” Rippenkroeger is producing with Vince Palomino, Paula Rippenkroeger, and Michael Yanni in what’s described as an homage to the action-comedy movies of the 1980s and 1990s.

The One Tree Hill alum took to Instagram on Monday to share an emotional Mother’s Day tribute to his wife, Sarah Roemer — as well as the very first image of their baby girl, whose birth Murray announced in March.

Chad Michael Murray is taking on the world of novels, penning a romantic-thriller with acclaimed author Heather Graham. American Drifter follows the story of an American soldier backpacking through Rio de Janeiro.

"I wrote this for kind of the fans that have come up with me" Murray says, referring to One Tree Hill's romantic storylines. "A lot of those fans loved the romance aspect of it, so I took what I knew of it, and brought it to the table."

The Sun Records star welcomed a baby girl earlier this week — his second child with wife Sarah Roemer — and tells Kelly Ripa and co-host Chris Hardwick that his responsibilities have been very specific since her arrival.

“We have a 22-month-old boy and now we have a few--old girl, and just so blessed. We just divvy the responsibilities,” says Murray, 35, joking, “Turns out I can’t breastfeed, so has to take that responsibility.”

Julia Silverton has been named senior vice-president, development, alternative programming at eOne Television.

Based in Los Angeles, Silverton will lead all development efforts for the growing alternative programming team in the Us.

She will work closely with Mark Herwick, senior vice-president, current, alternative programming, eOne Television and recently promoted Benjamin Megargel, vice-president, development, eOne Television.

Successful shows from the department include Growing Up Hip Hop Atlanta, David Spade’s comedy prank show Fameless for truTV and Nellyville for Bet.

In her previous role as vice-president of development at Cmt, Silverton oversaw the production of scripted and unscripted series for Cmt, including Steve Austin’s Broken Skull Challenge.
