The role of Dr. Crober was originally intended for a man. Karim Hussain and producer Colin Geddes contacted Barbara Crampton who, being good friends with both of them, was more than happy to join to the project.
Karim Hussain, a good friend of co-writer Richard Stanley, was initially going to be the director of photography.
The filmmakers auditioned 200 girls for the part of Kira. But most weren't willing to do the extensive nudity the role called for.
Began shooting exactly two years after being announced at Berlinale.
Barbara Crampton said in an interview that, after having to spend hours totally naked surrounded by actors and crew filming Re-Animator (1985), she understood how daunting it can be for Rebecca Forsythe when she went through the same thing for this film. So she said she had her co-star's back during production. "We had a few talks about it. I wanted to make sure she had an advocate in me if there was anything she didn't like or something went awry. [The director] took very good care of her, but you know, sometimes you feel very vulnerable. She was vulnerable, and you have to commit to that and submit yourself to it, but it's important to know that you have people around you who are going to take care of you."
