Roku is set to air more live sports in 2025 after striking a new partnership to become the exclusive U.S. streaming home of X Games Aspen and an X Games event slated for this summer.

The competition, which was originally founded by ESPN but sold to private equity in 2022, will be available on the recently launched Roku Sports Channel. Additionally, the platform is launching an X Games TV Fast channel and will launch X Game Zone, a one-stop destination that will include programming highlights, clips, interviews, archival content and more.

“This partnership with X Games is the perfect marriage between content and distribution—more than half of The Roku Channel’s monthly Fast audience are between the ages of 18 and 49, and the X Games have built a lifestyle brand that sits right at the intersection of sports and youth culture,” Roku Media Sports head Joe Franzetta said in a statement.

The Roku Channel will be the exclusive U.S. streaming home of the X Games Aspen as well as a summertime X Games event.

The news marks the latest step in Roku’s efforts to build a portfolio of live sports rights. The company has recently streamed weekly Major League Baseball games, the NBA G League and electric racing circuit Formula E. It also has invested in live sports talk with Gmfb: Overtime and The Rich Eisen Show.

The X Games were created by ESPN in the 1990s in an effort to lure young viewers with an Olympics-like showcase for sports then known as “extreme,” including motocross, skateboarding, freestyle skiing and snowboarding. Winter and summer events became mainstays on ESPN, reliably filling out the linear schedule even if they never delivered the blockbuster ratings of more established sports. In 2022, ESPN sold the X Games to private equity firm Msp Sports Capital.

Roku is continuing to add exclusive sports rights to its streaming platform.

The latest deal will make Roku the exclusive streaming home for the X Games, the extreme sports competition that was founded by ESPN but sold to private equity in 2022. The deal will kick off in January with X Games Aspen, and continue with a “major” summer competition to follow.

The X Games will be available on the recently launched Roku Sports Channel, with Roku also launching an X Games Fast channel, and an X Games Zone that functions as a streaming hub for the competition.

Roku has been aggressive in seeking out opportunistic sports rights, as well as rights to sports-adjacent programming, as it looks to bolster its Roku Channel and expand its advertising business. It cut its first exclusive sports deal last year with Formula E, and has since picked up MLB games and NBA G League games.

Roku has struck a deal with the X Games for its Roku Channel to become the U.S. streaming home of both the upcoming Winter 2025 competition in Aspen as well as an event set for next summer.

The X Games competitions will stream on the Roku Sports Channel. Roku also plans to launch a new X Games TV Fast channel, and create an “X Games Zone” to launch on Roku in the lead up to the live events, which it describes as “a one-stop destination for fans to browse, discover, and stream everything X Games including programming highlights, clips, interviews, archival content and more.”

This marks Roku’s latest move into live sports following partnerships with Formula E, NBA G League and MLB Sunday Lead Off, and alongside its sports-centric talk shows, “Gmfb: Overtime” and “The Rich Eisen Show.”

Roku is launching its own dedicated sports channel through the free, ad-supported streaming television (Fast) platform The Roku Channel.

The channel, called the Roku Sports Channel, will debut on August 12 and serve as the home for Roku’s acquired live sports and shoulder programming, including Major League Baseball’s Sunday Leadoff games, “The Rich Eisen Show,” the syndicated version of Good Morning Football called “Good Morning Football: Overtime,” “WWE: Next Gen” and “Fight Inc: Inside the UFC.”

Roku Sports Channel will also offer partner content like classic boxing matches from Top Rank, combat sports from Swerve Sports and high-stakes poker entertainment from PokerGo, the company said in a statement on Wednesday.

The league has set a launch date for the rebooted version of Good Morning Football, the NFL Network morning show. Good Morning Football will return on July 29, with Jamie Erdahl, Peter Schrager and Kyle Brandt remaining as co-hosts of the show, joined by former NFL defensive end Akbar Gbajabiamila and news reporter Sherree Burruss. Schrager and Brandt will split their time between New York and Los Angeles.

Daniel Craig’s epic run as Bond has come to a fitting end and the question of who will inherit the role has sparked a debate.

Roku reported total net revenue of $882 million in the first quarter, up 19 percent year over year.

Both platform revenue and devices revenue saw a year-over-year increase of 19 percent in the first quarter results reported Thursday, with platform revenue of $754.9 million and devices revenue of $126.5 million. The company narrowed its loss from operations to $72 million from $104.2 million in the previous quarter, and $212.5 million a year ago.

Roku’s net loss was $50.8 million compared to a net loss of $193 million a year earlier.

Total streaming hours reached 30.8 billion, up 5.7 billion hours year-over-year, while the number of streaming households, or the distinct number of user accounts that have streamed content in the platform in the last 30 days, reached 81.6 million, up 14 percent. Sequentially, Roku added 1.6 million households.

In four days, the AI-generated trailer garnered over 2.5 million views on YouTube and further stoked fan interest in Cavill being named the new Bond following Daniel Craig’s departure in 2021’s “No Time to Die.”

As fate would have it, Cavill’s next role is Gus March-Phillipps in Guy Ritchie’s “The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare.” March-Phillipps was a real historical figure who founded the British Army’s No. 62 Commando and who some believe inspired author Ian Fleming to create James Bond. Cavill’s history with 007 dates back to “Casino Royale,” when he auditioned for the role of 007 but lost to Craig.

A fake Bond movie trailer “starring” the former Witcher star has been racking up millions of views on YouTube despite being a total fake.

The “Bond 26” trailer introduces Cavill as the new Bond using a mix of footage from other movies and artificial intelligence. The trailer also ambitiously casts Margot Robbie as a Bond girl.

So far, the wannabe trailer has generated 2.3 million viewers, presumably driven by a mix of fans enjoying it as a “what-if” effort, along with some being fooled by it.
