While it's not a terrible show, it is horribly mediocre. The plots of these episodes can be very bare and stereotypical (eg. There's a party happening and one of the main characters can't go, one character falls in love with their idol who turns out to be evil, etc.). Due to the how the plots are, they make the episode feel really boring. Along with that, the animation can feel weirdly stiff and awkward, and the alien designs can be either really bland, really lazy or really ugly. The characters themselves even have boring and stereotypical personalities. Our main trio are all essentially SpongeBob (the main character in the title), Patrick (the idiot), and Squidward (the deadpan sarcastic character). The side characters also have as much personality as sliced bread. Cutty is the generic father figure/boss, Pam is the creepy stalker girl, Sgt. Sasha Spritz is the generic hero, and The Dark Lord and Brad are the generic bad guys (Brad being the generic nerdy rival and the Dark Lord being a discount Plankton). But personally, the biggest issue I have with the show is how horribly Hampton is treated. Now, I'm a sucker for sarcastic characters (eg. Squidward, Raven, etc.), and it hurts my heart to see most of them being treated so poorly. Hampton's unfortunately an example of this, and it wouldn't be much of a problem if he wasn't my favorite thing about the show. The amount of times I've happily beamed at his presence are too many to discuss here, but that's not the point. Oh, who am I kidding? He's the main reason that I didn't lower the rating I gave for this show! He's just so likable and precious. (Not to mention that his voice actor does a fantastic performance.) Speaking of which, it's not like the voice acting is bad. It's actually okay. And like I said, this show isn't terrible. It's just painfully mediocre. Would I recommend it? Eh, I'm honestly not sure. I'd probably recommend it for Hampton, but for everything else I've just described, I wouldn't recommend it.
