Snapshots is based on a true story.
This film has some parallels to the movie Titanic. They both involve a character named Rose who is shown both in the present day and in flashbacks of events that occurred decades ago. The younger Rose is depicted initially as someone who is living a straight-laced, confining life until she meets a free spirited person whom she connects with and becomes intimate with. Both Rose characters credit the free spirit with transforming their lives, with the Rose in Titanic saying that Jack saved her while the Rose in Snapshots said that Louise taught her how to live. Both Roses end up losing their soulmates tragically before going on to marry someone else and eventually having a granddaughter who is a part of the story.
