15 years back this Girlfriends label was created to fill a void in the marketplace for realistic, sensual lesbian cinema, and several hundred features later the team's sincerity and impact cannot be doubted. But besides well-loved series (Women Seeking Women, Lesbian Seductions, etc.) they make one-off features too, of which "Lesbian Sex Society" is the worst.
The hit series follow hard and fast rules, and like the TV soap operas (that they imitate) they cater to the loyal fans' preferences. But actress-director Kara Price woke up in a bad mood to deliver this bit of anti-entertainment. She presides as headmistress over a secret cult where sweet young kidnapped girls are abused for the viewer's listening pleasure.
It is tedious and frankly obnoxious action, centered around physical abuse and humiliation. In Britain, actress-turned-director Tanya Hyde brings incredible style and energy to this genre, but here it's merely Bondage Lite - phony and poorly enacted throughout. Whatever happened to the Girlfriends commitment to "realistic sex".
Lily Cade is typecast as one of the dommes dishing out punishment, and stars like Lily LaBeau, Skin Diamond and Chastity Lynn suffer reel after reel through fake mayhem. There's no BTS featurette included, but it would have been fun and illuminating to see how little seriousness was maintained on the set, as these actresses all know better. Price delivers lots of anal sex, of which Chastity is a seasoned receiver.
Nasty tone is more irritating than unsettling and the feature has no ending, merely running out of gas.
