CGI and history details are impressive, but narration is cringe

In the entire franchise, the first film is considered the best but it lacks the humour or storyline expected compared to Jack Neo's past movies. Neo's attempt to depict Singapore's past is impressive but narration is not necessary, it would be better to tell the story through the storyline rather than having a young girl narrate this story as though it is a government ad. Aileen Tan's acting is worth praising as she shows the struggles of being a woman in the 1960s Singapore, and shows a vulnerable but strong personality/character with depth. This made the audience feel attached to her even if she was sexist to her own daughters, Neo's attempt at showing that favouritism towards boys was a norm was done well. Humour wise, it was not as funny, which is unexpected from Neo's movies which are always about family humour and problems.
