This is perhaps Mukherji's most commercially ambitious endeavor as well as one of his most convoluted works as of yet! Script-wise, this is a modern retelling of two Shakespearean plays (Julius Caesar, Antony & Cleopatra) Now I have no expertise in Shakespeare's plays and how they play out in the original version or how loyal this adaptation has been, All I can tell you is that the movie itself doesn't work, even with great ambitions at heart, 'Srijit Da' failed to create a lasting impression.
The conversations are badly written, and those same sets of dialogues have been enacted in the worst way one could think of. While it had a promising cast, with almost all the A-Listers of the Bengali film fraternity, their performances, however, still turned out to be horrendous, and incongruous, so much so that the enactments come off as superficial; instead of luring us in, they just pull us out of immersion.
