Set to make its world premiere at the Mill Valley Film Festival on October 8, “She Started It” is a compelling documentary that follows five passionate, trailblazing young women who strive to compete and thrive in the ruthlessly competitive boys club of high tech start-ups.
Directed and produced by Nora Poggi and Insiyah Saeed, the film’s subjects include Thuy Truong, Stacey Ferreira, Sheena Allen, Brienne Ghafourifar, Agathe Molinar, and feature them as they pitch VCs, build teams, bring products to market, fail and start again.
The trailer gives a sneak peek at the lives of these women and also some great insight about the cultural roots of female underrepresentation in entrepreneurship including pervasive self-doubt, fear of failure and risk aversion among young women. Young girls also speak out about the lack of female role models and investors and what being an entrepreneur means to them.
