After searching for weeks for a suitable shooting location near Los Angeles, California, and finding nothing, Robert Lawson Gordon and Will Hurst stumbled upon a Craigslist ad for a vacation rental located in a remote area eight hours north near Mount Shasta. After scouting the location, Robert Lawson Gordon rewrote the script to include the local mythology of the prominent volcano and also to make use of the large rock outcrop located on the property itself.
The cast and crew lived together and shot inside the house featured in the film for 3 weeks.
