Rocket League came to me free via the PS+ service, had it not I'd have likely not given it a chance being that it's essentially a sports title thus not something I'd be interested in.
Sequel to the considerably less known Supersonic Acrobatic Rocket-Powered Battle-Cars (2008) Rocket League demonstrates that the simple concepts are usually the best and deliver a game that years later is still outstandingly popular.
Basically Rocket League is football, with cars. Two small teams of vehicles, 2 goals and 1 supersized ball are all it takes to have a wickedly addictive good time. Even for a guy like me who cares not for sports or racing games can't deny that what they've accomplished here is outstanding.
With constant updates, alternative game modes including a vehicular version of ice hockey and basketball the developers have demonstrated that sometimes it makes more sense to stick with one game instead of yearly releases.
Stupidly simple, incredibly addictive and so much depth for such a shallow concept.
The Good:
