Based on the novels The Marmalade Files and The Mandarin Code by Australian political journalists Steve Lewis and Chris Uhlmann.
The office of then-Prime Minister of Australia Tony Abbott granted cast and crew access to Parliament House for filming. Abbott was removed from office in a leadership coup that was taking place as the series was being filmed.
One of the central characters has the last name Dalgety. Dalgety was the first town chosen to be Australia's national capital in 1904, before the Australian government decided on Canberra instead in 1908.
Chris Uhlmann makes a guest / cameo appearance as himself in the first episode.
