Fremantle has promoted Kevin Woodward to executive vice president of production.
In his new role, he will oversee all physical production for the company’s U.S. unscripted studio, including pre-production, budgeting, production and post-production for development projects and active productions. This will include oversight of “Family Feud,” “American Idol” and “America’s Got Talent” as well as Fremantle’s Haven Studios operations, which permanently houses “Let’s Make A Deal” and “The Price Is Right.”
Woodward, who will continue to report to Fremantle North America COO Suzanne Lopez, first joined the company in 2014 and most recently served as senior vice president of production. Prior to Fremantle, he worked as a freelance production accountant across a variety of Fremantle unscripted shows and a slew of shorter-run projects.

Marvel has tapped “Star Trek: Picard” executive producer Terry Matalas to resurrect Vision, the synthezoid played by Paul Bettany, for a new, untitled Disney+ series set for 2026, Variety has learned exclusively. Bettany will return to the role and Matalas will serve as showrunner.
After Vision died at the hands of Thanos in 2018’s “Avengers: Infinity War,” he returned twice over in 2021’s “WandaVision,” first as a spectral creation by his beloved, Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen), through magic powered by grief; then as a rebuilt, nuts-and-bolts android with a ghost white appearance and zero memory of his past life. When the two Visions battled in the “WandaVision” finale, Wanda’s Vision restored the ghost Vision’s memories, then Wanda allowed her Vision to fade from existence. The new show will take place after those events, as ghost Vision presumably explores his new purpose in life.

Here’s one TV-news shake-up that won’t have the anchors scrambling to call their agents.
CNBC on Monday is set to debut a new look, one that will radically change the stock tickers that have scrolled along the network’s screen for years — along with many other elements. Indeed, says Robert Poulton, the vice president and executive creative director supervising the overhaul, executives expect at least a few viewers to be surprised or even put off by the redesign.
Viewers who tune in early Monday morning to “Worldwide Exchange” may notice that CNBC’s two scrolling tickers have been reduced to one. New space at the bottom of the screen — a “bottom line,” if you will — has been granted to top market indices, such as the Dow Jones Industrial Average and the S&P 500. Previously, these stats were stacked atop one another in the bottom-right corner of the screen,...

Jay Leno showed a little solidarity for the writers Tuesday by appealing to their tummies.
The former late night host brought donuts to the picketers outside of Disney, where picketers marched around the block for hours. Lots of “thank yous” were yelled as he quietly handed out boxes from Randy’s while wearing his signature denim outfit.
It’s tradition for Leno to pass out the deep-fried confections: he also did it during the 2007 writers’ strike.

CNBC has lost some of its avarice for the long-running primetime series “American Greed.”
The documentary program, which examines white-collar crime, scams and embezzlement, among other business-focused wrongdoing, has been running on the NBCUniversal business-news channel since 2007, completing 15 seasons and 222 episodes, along with three spin-offs. In 2023, however, the series order was significantly smaller than those in the past, according to two people familiar with the matter, and production of original episodes has ceased for the moment.
“CNBC has not canceled ‘American Greed,'” the network said in a statement. Six new episodes ran between January 24 and March 7 of this year. Past seasons have included 12 episodes or more, according to one of the people familiar with the program
CNBC and the production company behind “American Greed,” Kurtis Productions, declined to make executives available for comment. It is possible that CNBC could run repeats of the show.

Max Meyers has at least one firm rule about his new CNBC program, and it might surprise some of the business-news outlet’s die-hards. “I told everyone, ‘No earnings,’” says Meyers, a veteran producer at the NBCUniversal-backed cable network. “I don’t want to hear that.”
No net income on CNBC? Such a dictate would be anathema on “Squawk Box,” the morning-news program that Meyers previously ran, but it might just stick on “Last Call,” a new 7 p.m. effort from CNBC executives that aims to keep business-news aficionados hanging out with the network until later in the evening. Over the past week, anchor Brian Sullivan, who is moving from a 5 a.m. roost on “Worldwide Exchange” to anchor the new evening show, has held forth on everything from Tesla to Salesforce during rehearsals, ready to give late-breaking news to CNBC’s market faithful.

Forget the DeLorean time machine from "Back to the Future" and the Aston Martins from the James Bond films. The real on-screen car Mvp is the original Batmobile from the 1960s "Batman" TV series. It's one of the most iconic rides in entertainment history, with its giant fins, Bat motif, and curved windshield.
The Batmobile first appeared in the comics in 1939's "Detective Comics" #27 and made the jump to live action in the 1943 serial film "Batman," and 1949 serial "Batman and Robin." For the TV series, George Barris designed the car from a one-off 1955 Lincoln Futura concept car, with some input from Eddie Graves from 20th Century Fox. It was an integral part of the series, which ran for 120 episodes over three seasons from 1966 to 1968.
The "Batman" series starred Adam West as Bruce Wayne/Batman, and Burt Ward as Dick Grayson/Robin and the two were often shown leaving through the hidden entrance of the Batcave.

Jay Leno is on the mend after multiple surgeries following a horrible accident in his garage less than four months ago. As expected, Leno has taken the approach of discussing both the accident and the procedures through a humorous manner.
In an interview with The Kelly Clarkson Show, Jay Leno showed off his “new face”, which came about due to two skin grafting surgeries over the course of just over one week. “Only for the second time in my career am I the new face of comedy. I got it once in the ’80s and now I get it again. That’s a brand new ear!” He added, “You think there’d be a zipper here or something, but no this is like a brand new face.”
Jay Leno continued, joking about his accident in a good-natured way. “This is a brand new face…It’s unbelievable. I was working...

Jay Leno is back to his routine, taking to the comedy club stage one more after yet another painful accident involving one of his beloved vehicles.
Leno returned to the Comedy & Magic Club in Hermosa Beach, California, on Sunday, and eyewitness tells Et.
The 72-year-old comic had cancelled his traditional Sunday show there the last two weekends. However, upon his return, the eyewitness says Leno wasn’t wearing a sling and appeared fine, given he broke several bones.
Leno has been performing at the club just about every Sunday since he took over as host of “The Tonight Show” in 1992, where he’d try out his monologue material while reading index cards.
Leno’s return to the stage comes just a few days after he revealed that he’d recently suffered a frightening motorcycle crash.
“I got knocked off my motorcycle,” he told the Las Vegas Review-Journal. “So I’ve got a broken collarbone.

Jay Leno’s Garage is closing its doors. CNBC has cancelled the series, which takes viewers into Leno's garage and explores all things automotive, sometimes with celebrity guests, per The Wrap. Leno’s last episode of The Tonight Show aired in February 2014 on NBC, and a few months later, CNBC ordered Jay Leno’s Garage.
Jay Leno’s Garage aired for seven seasons on the cable network, and the last episode aired on October 26th. The cancellation comes as the channel shifts to focusing solely on business-related programming, like reruns of Shark Tank and Undercover Boss, as well as original business documentaries.

Jay Leno just maybe shouldn’t be leaving his garage.
The star of CNBC’s “Jay Leno’s Garage,” which IndieWire can confirm has recently been canceled after seven seasons, revealed he survived another vehicular accident in mid-January. Leno was hospitalized in November 2022 following a gasoline fire that broke out while he was repairing a vintage car. On January 17, Leno was involved in a motorcycle crash.
“That was the first accident, Ok? Then just last week, I got knocked off my motorcycle,” Leno told the Las Vegas Review Journal. “So I’ve got a broken collarbone. I’ve got two broken ribs. I’ve got two cracked kneecaps.”
He added, “But I’m Ok! I’m Ok, I’m working. I’m working this weekend.”
Leno was again working on a vintage vehicle, this time testing a 1940 Indian motorcycle on the road before realizing it was leaking gas.

CNBC is dropping Jay Leno’s Garage, the classic car series that capitalized on the comedian’s prized collection, after seven seasons.
The network chose not to renew the series after seven seasons, a source confirmed. Kc Sullivan, named president last year, has chosen to focus on business oriented reality shows in the primetime lineup, including Shark Tank and Undercover Boss.
But Jay Leno’s Garage, which started as a special in 2014 and became a series the next year, drew attention given Leno’s status as a former host of The Tonight Show and his ability to draw marquee guest stars, including President Joe Biden, who taped an appearance last year. In an earlier appearance, when he was serving as vice president, Biden appeared with former Secretary of State Colin Powell.

Comedian Jay Leno’s 30-year run of having a TV show on one of NBCUniversal’s TV channels appears to be ending.
A CNBC source tells The Hollywood Reporter that it has decided to cancel the reality show Jay Leno’s Garage, which has been a staple of its primetime lineup since 2015.
The cancellation comes amid a larger schedule shift at the channel, with its primetime hours to focus on reality reruns of Shark Tank and Undercover Boss, as well as original business documentaries.

President Joe Biden trekked to Beltsville, MD, this afternoon to tape an appearance with Jay Leno and his show Jay Leno’s Garage.
Biden told reporters afterward, “It was really good. It was even more fun driving my old Corvette.”
Biden went to the James J. Rowley Training Center, a Secret Service facility.
The president said that they also talked “about how electric cars are going to change the nature of our environment.”
He also said that he got to drive he Ford Lightning. “That was a fast Sob,” Biden said.
Biden has previously appeared on the show. In 2016, he and Colin Powell raced each other in their Corvettes. “I always loved to drive,” Biden said on the episode. “I shouldn’t say it on television, but I like speed.” He said that he had “buried” his Corvette once, reaching a speed of 160 mph.
Leno backed Biden in 2020 and headlined fundraisers for his presidential campaign.

Jay Leno is once again addressing the long-running controversy surrounding “The Tonight Show” hosting gig over a decade ago when Conan O’Brien got the boot after just one season.
During a recent episode of Bill Maher’s “Club Random” podcast, Leno denied that he “deliberately sabotaged” the NBC late-night talk show after O’Brien took over in 2009 following Leno’s departure to lead “The Jay Leno Show” at the 10 p.m. time slot at the same network. He later returned as “The Tonight Show” host in 2010, prompting O’Brien to part ways with NBC and instead develop a new show, “Conan,” at TBS.
“That doesn’t work,” Leno stated of any pre-meditated plans to overhaul O’Brien. “It doesn’t work that way. You try and do the best you can and it didn’t work.”

Jay Leno has apologized for anti-Asian jokes he made on “The Tonight Show” stemming back two decades. In a joint press statement released Wednesday with the Media Action Network for Asian Americans (Manaa), Leno admitted that he knew in his heart the jokes were wrong.
“At the time, there was a prevailing attitude that some group is always complaining about something, so don’t worry about it. Whenever we received a complaint, there would be two sides to the discussion: Either ‘We need to deal with this’ or ‘Screw ‘em if they can’t take a joke,'” Leno explained. “Too many times I sided with the latter even when in my heart I knew it was wrong. That is why I am issuing this apology. I do not consider this particular case to be another example of cancel culture but a legitimate wrong that was done on my part.

Applications for on-location filming in and around Los Angeles fell by nearly 25% in December, according to FilmLA, the city and county’s film permit office. Some 143 permits were issued during the week before Christmas, 58 during the week of the holiday and 50 the week of New Year’s.
With just 21 working days in December, FilmLA released an average of just 29 film permits per day – the lowest daily output since August.
Television production comprised 27% of permits issued in December, but only a handful of TV series started shooting locally last month, including Ghosts and The 3 of Us (CBS), Insecure (HBO), Tacoma Fd (HBO Max) and The L Word: Generation Q (Showtime).

Film permit applications in the city and county of Los Angeles declined steeply in December, dropping 24.9 percent from November levels to 613 permits. FilmLA reported Tuesday.
This is the second straight month that FilmLA has seen permit requests drop, as production levels that picked up after the pandemic shutdown began to drop again. In November, monthly activity slipped 7.6 percent from October levels to 813 permits.
FilmLA spokesman Philip Sokoloski explained, “When production was allowed to restart last June, the majority of work that powers the greater Los Angeles economy didn’t start up right away. It wasn’t until September that we started to see some of the scripted television production work and feature work resuming.”
That accounts for the surge that happened in August when film permit applications rose 40% in August over July as location production restarts in the Los Angeles area amid Covid-19 restrictions.

On-location film permits for the Los Angeles area slowed by 7.6% from October to November as production activity eased amid the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, the FilmLA agency reported Tuesday.
The industry, which was mostly shuttered from March to June, has received approximately 3,552 film permit applications spanning 2,514 unique projects over the past 20 weeks for location shooting in the Los Angeles area. For the first time since production resumed, month-over-month permit volume decreased in November as application intake declined to 813 permits from 880 in October.
The agency said the slowing stemmed from the 2020 election, the Thanksgiving holiday and the pandemic. FilmLA’s daily intake is now averaging around 39 new applications per business day.
“The November decrease in production reflects the ongoing complexity of the moment,” said FilmLA President Paul Audley. “At this point, progress for production rests, like so many things, on effective community control of Covid-19. The Greater Los Angeles filmmaking community, so...

Despite the pandemic, some 40 feature films began shooting on-location in Greater Los Angeles last month, and 27 unique TV show titles either resumed or started on-location filming in town, pulling their first permits since June.
Overall, however, on-location production of films, TV shows and commercials was down in November compared with October, according FilmLA, the City and County’s film permit office. It’s the first time since production resumed that month-over-month permit volume has decreased.
“The November decrease in production reflects the ongoing complexity of the moment,” said FilmLA president Paul Audley. “At this point, progress for production rests, like so many things, on effective community control of Covid-19. The Greater Los Angeles filmmaking community, so fortunate to be able to remain working, continues to be mindful of safe set rules.”

Shepard Smith brings a lot to CNBC, including a sterling reputation for chasing facts. But he wasn’t able in his first night on air to catch the audience he enjoyed at his former employer, Fox News Channel.
Smith’s new 7 p.m. program, “The News With Shepard Smith,” won an average of 373,000 viewers in its debut Wednesday night on CNBC, according to data from Nielsen, and an average of 56,000 viewers in the demographic prized by advertisers in news programming, people between 25 and 54. Those numbers are well below the crowd size he generated for Fox News Channel in the mid-afternoon, when he attracted an average of 1.3 million and a demo audience of 195,000, according to ratings data. Smith left that network in 2019 after clashing with primetime host Tucker Carlson.

NBCUniversal tried to harness two Fox News anchors in the recent past and failed. Now the company no doubt hopes the third time’s the charm.
The company’s CNBC on Wednesday evening launched former Fox News daytime anchor Shepard Smith in a new 7 p.m. news hour that, as Smith himself described it, aims to give viewers “journalists and experts, not opinions and pundits.” The business-news network clearly has some ambition for the new program. It hired a well-known producer, Molly Kordares, from “CBS Evening News,” lured Sally Ramirez, a top news executive from a major-market CBS affiliate in Houston, and assigned one of its veterans, Sandy Cannold, to oversee the project.
Several Fox News personalities who have left that outlet have gained new recognition for their newsgathering or anchoring skills, including Major Garrett and Catherine Herridge at CBS News and Alisyn Camerota at CNN. But NBC News has...

Comcast and NBCUniversal are pushing Peacock out of the nest starting Wednesday, April 15, promising to unfurl a rich plume of 15,000-plus hours of streaming content, first for the cable giant’s own TV and internet customers.
Peacock is then slated to be available across the U.S. on July 15 — while NBCU is mulling the possibility of moving that up sooner — in various three tiers across mobile, web and connected-tv devices: paid with ads ($4.99 monthly); paid with no ads ($9.99 monthly); and completely free with ads with a truncated content lineup. With the national launch, Comcast (and Cox) subscribers also will have the option to get an ad-free version of the service for an additional $5 per month.
So what’s on the menu? Peacock will include live and on-demand content across current and past TV shows, movies, news, and late night programming, with some live sports once they resume post-pandemic. Most of...

Two organizations dedicated to the inclusion and representation of Asian American communities in media have condemned comedian Jay Leno, and called on network NBC to sever its business ties with the former late night host.
Both organizations — Asian Americans Advancing Justice, and the Media Action Network for Asian Americans — refer to a joke Leno made about Asians eating dog meat when he appeared as a guest judge on “America’s Got Talent” in August.
