By now, you have seen Wynonna Earp: Vengeance on Tubi, and you know this special is much more than a fun detour in Purgatory.
This is a story with real consequences, and we caught up with creator Emily Andras to get her take on it.
Like all things Earp, Emily is passionate and filled with life. Don’t be alarmed when it appears as if the claws come out. The conversation was lighthearted and emotional and packed a punch. It’s exactly what you’d expect from the woman who brought Wynonna, Waverly, Doc, and Nicole to life!
Warning: Massive Spoilers Ahead! Don’t proceed if you haven’t already watched Vengeance!

Well, what a fantastic, if somewhat jarring, return to Wynonna!
I know. How mad are you? How mad are you? There’s not enough of you yelling at me.

Wynonna Earp is one of those shows that never became hugely popular but that had a fiercely devoted fanbase for its entire run. Armed with her special gun Peacemaker, it's Wynonna's job to send reincarnated criminals called revenants back to hell. She did that for four straight seasons on Syfy, but still has unfinished business. She'll close the final chapter in Wynonna Earp: Vengeance, a 90-minute special dropping on Tubi on Friday, September 13. So very soon! Watch the trailer below:
“The past is never that far behind us, and some of it might be showing up looking for vengeance, so to speak, in the special,” creator Emily Andras teased to Entertainment Weekly, putting that writer's brain to good use with some colorful verbiage. “The heart, the laugh-out-loud wit and action-packed sequences that were always a part of the series are still in the special. This cast has not missed a step.

“Wynonna Earp” wasn’t going to keep the fans waiting forever for more stories.
The cult series wrapped it’s four-season run back in 2021, and thanks to a small but incredibly mighty fan base that campaigned vocally online, a new 90-minute special is set to air on Sept. 13 on Tubi called “Wynonna Earp: Vengeance.”
Creator Emily Andras told Entertainment Weekly that the show had stories planned for a fifth season but Season 4 was – luckily – written with some closure in mind. Now the special will tie things up once and for all.
“We had been ordered for a season 4 and a season 5, but things were kind of up in the air,” Andras said. “I thought: It’s better to write an ending that is satisfying and if we’re blessed with another season, I can blow it all up. My gamble paid off, for better or for worse.”

Don't let anyone tell you Westerns are dead. They're apparently still alive and well on Netflix, where this week the docudrama "Wyatt Earp and the Cowboy War" has been steadily climbing the streaming charts. According to viewership data site Flixpatrol, the series about the early American lawman is currently being bested in the top 10 most-watched English-language Netflix shows chart by just two other series: true crime docuseries "American Murder: Laci Peterson" and inexplicably popular girlboss rom-com "Emily in Paris."
If your Boomer dad hasn't yet told you about "Wyatt Earp and the Cowboy War," let us do the honors. It's a six-episode Netflix-exclusive series that's a hybrid of narrative nonfiction, talking-head documentary, and intense reenactments. Here's the official synopsis that accompanied the show's trailer on YouTube: "The legendary feud between Wyatt Earp and Ike Clanton unfolds through vivid reenactments in this gritty docudrama about the gunfight that defined an era.

Based on the Idw comic book by Beau Smith, the Syfy series Wynonna Earp was “a fast-paced, contemporary thriller” that followed Wyatt Earp’s great-granddaughter as “she battles demons and other supernatural beings. Wynonna is a witty and wild modern day gunslinger, using her unique abilities and a dysfunctional posse of allies to bring the paranormal to justice.” The show did well, running for four seasons and 49 episodes from 2016 to 2021. Three years later, it’s set to get a 90 minute follow-up special called Wynonna Earp: Vengeance, which will be released through the Tubi streaming service.

Nearly three years after concluding its run on Syfy, cult favorite Wynonna Earp is returning for a 90-minute scripted special on Fox’s ad-supported streamer Tubi. The one-off is expected to air late this year according to Vanity Fair, which was first to break news of the project dubbed Vengeance.
Creator Emily Andras penned the special, with cast members Melanie Scrofano (Wynonna), Tim Rozon (Doc Holliday), Dom Provost-Chalkley (Waverly Earp) and Katherine Barrell (Nicole Haught) all returning to reprise their roles. Paolo Barzman will return to direct. A premiere date has not yet been determined.
“Doc and Wynonna have been on an adventure, and Waverly and Nicole have been at home in [the Earp hometown of] Purgatory, doing their thing. I think it’s going to be really interesting to see, hopefully, what gets everybody home—maybe facing a challenge they’ve never faced before, something pretty intense. It...

Motion Content Group, an industrious producer and co-financier of Love Island, Wynonna Earp and some 1,800 other series globally, is rebranding as GroupM Motion Entertainment in North America.
The move comes amid a broader pivot toward premium programming.
Motion Content, already well-established in more than two dozen territories, made a major push into the U.S. several years ago, with CEO Richard Foster relocating from London to LA. Those efforts took shape just before Covid upended the production sector.
GroupM Motion Entertainment will be co-led by Foster, Global CEO GroupM Motion Entertainment, and Kirk McDonald, CEO GroupM North America.
Beginning in 2009 as GroupM Entertainment, the unit initially worked with broadcasters such as Viacom’s Channel 5, then owned by controversial British media baron Richard Desmond, to pay for a range of factual and entertainment titles. Multi-faceted deals were structured by covered advertising and international ancillary arrangements. It then moved into drama,...

For four seasons, fans watched Melanie Scrofano, Tim Rozon, Dominique Provost-Chalkley, and Kat Barrell in the Syfy series Wynonna Earp — and it wasn’t nearly enough. So, when TV Insider spoke with Barrell about her latest Hallmark movie, A Tale of Two Christmases, we couldn’t help bringing up seeing the four together again. After all, Barrell, Scrofano, and Rozon have all starred in Hallmark movies, so what about seeing everyone together in one of those? “I love all those guys so much. It’s such a fun thing to think about putting us all in a completely different world than Wynonna,” Barrell shared. And if she could dream cast that movie? “I’m all for more queer storytelling. I would love to put Dom in a non-binary role on Hallmark. I think that would be absolutely incredible. I would love to tell a queer Christmas love story. I think...

Netflix subscribers looking to save some money now have the option to sign up for a cheaper, ad-supported tier. The Basic with Ads plan costs 6.99 per month rather than 9.99 for the basic plan without ads, and gives subscribers access to a decent amount of the streaming service’s extensive library. However, according to Variety and GameSpot, there are a number of TV shows and movies that unfortunately aren’t available to watch for people subscribing to Netflix’s newest tier.
Netflix’s Chief Operating Officer Greg Peters did tell reporters back in October that a “limited number of movies and TV shows won’t be available due to licensing restrictions, and [Netflix is] going to be working on reducing that over time,” but even with the new tier launching Nov. 3, Netflix still hasn’t released an official list showing what is and isn’t available to its Basic with Ads subscribers. Exclusive: Comic book and graphic novel publisher Idw has unveiled nine new original comic book projects set for release beginning in July as part of a new initiative. While the focus is on creating new comic book IP, following publishing of the comics, the Idw Entertainment Group will work to potentially develop the IP for film, television and other entertainment mediums the way the company has done in the past with such titles as Wynonna Earp and Locke & Key.
Reflecting genres including crime thriller, supernatural horror, science fiction and epic fantasy, the projects hail from New York Times bestselling authors, top industry artists and writers, as well as newcomers, including Scott Snyder, G. Willow Wilson and Stephen Graham Jones, among others. Additionally, Idw has additional projects underway for 2023 and beyond, including a comic book series by Academy Award–winning director, screenwriter, novelist, and showrunner John Ridley and several original graphic novels aimed at middle grade and YA audiences.
Beginning with Scott Snyder’s Dark Spaces: Wildfire in July (see details below), Idw will be publishing the projects monthly.
“A year ago we gave ourselves a mission: to make Idw the destination for premier talent and rising stars,” says Mark Doyle, editorial director of Originals. “This is an unprecedented moment in Idw’s history, and there’s been a tremendous team effort from our creative and editorial teams and everyone at the company to develop a stellar slate of original stories—and we’re having a blast doing it!”
Here is a trailer for Idw’s new initiative:
“Throughout our history, Idw has provided a supportive environment for passionate creators to pursue their artistic vision, taking form as such beloved titles as 30 Days of Night, Locke & Key, V Wars, Canto, October Faction, and Wynonna Earp, just to name a few,” says publisher Nachie Marsham. “Our new Originals editorial division, spearheaded by Mark Doyle, reflects our commitment to building upon that legacy. More than ever before, we are reaching out to the creative community, welcoming fresh ideas that span a diverse range of genres, and offering audiences wild new worlds to explore.”
The first nine projects are:
Dark Spaces: Wildfire, a thriller series written by Scott Snyder with art by Hayden Sherman, follows a group of female inmate firefighters deep into the smoldering California hills, where their desperate heist of a burning mansion will lead them to the score of a lifetime…or a deadly trap!
Trve Kvlt, a five-issue miniseries written by Scott Bryan Wilson with art by Liana Kangas, introduces Marty Tarantella, a down-on-his-luck loser whose last-ditch scheme to escape a lifetime of fast-food service sets him on a collision course with a cult of violent, Devil-worshiping lunatics!
Crashing, a five-issue miniseries written by Matthew Klein with art by Morgan Beem, throws open the doors of an emergency room filled with casualties of a superhuman war, where Rose Osler, a doctor on her own path of addiction and recovery, faces the most dangerous day of her medical career.
Earthdivers, an ongoing series written by Stephen Graham Jones with art by Davide Gianfelice, unites four Indigenous survivors in an apocalyptic near future as they embark on a bloody, one-way mission to save the world by traveling back in time to kill Christopher Columbus and prevent the creation of America.
Dead Seas, a six-issue miniseries written by Cavan Scott with art by Nick Brokenshire, transforms a cynical convict into a reluctant hero when he’s trapped on a sinking prison ship swarming with ghosts. Can he unite desperate criminals, pirates, and brutal guards as they try to escape a watery grave?
Golgotha Motor Mountain, a five-issue miniseries written by Matthew Erman and Lonnie Nadler with art by Ryan Lee, is a high-octane, redneck motor massacre about two meth-cooking brothers and their attempt to make it home in one piece as all manner of cosmic alien horrors are hot on their trail.
Arca, an original graphic novel written by Van Jensen with art by Jesse Lonergan, leaves a dying Earth behind as billionaires establish a luxurious new society out among the stars, tended to by teenage indentured servants. But one girl discovers that the good life promised for their years of servitude was a lie…
The Sin Bin, a six-issue miniseries written by Robbie Thompson with art by Molly Murakami, hits the road with washed-up hockey player Dale “Dukes” Duquesne, who moonlights as a monster hunter during away games with his daughter, Cat, in tow, hoping to find her mother’s killer.
The Hunger and the Dusk, a twelve-issue storyline written by G. Willow Wilson with art by Chris Wildgoose, upends an age-old conflict between humans and orcs by introducing a new, deadlier species. Fragile alliances form—and unexpected romances blossom—as former enemies wade into battle together to save their two races.

Sometimes good series not only go bad, they do so at the worst of all possible times — as in, right when they’re coming to an end. As a result, instead of leaving us reflecting fondly on a show that we’ve loved and lost, we’re stuck with an unpleasant aftertaste and a nagging question: It wasn’t always this crummy, was it?
The answer, thank the TV gods, is generally no, our favorite programs didn’t always reek. But that doesn’t diminish the “Ugh!” of a debatably lousy series finale.

Are we sure that wasn't the series finale?
Wynonna Earp Season 4 Episode 11 had all the hallmarks of a fantastic, if somewhat overstuffed, season finale -- action, suspense, romance, and most importantly, resolution.
The writers wrapped almost everything up in a neat little bow, with the only dangling plot point being WayHaught's upcoming wedding, which will be the actual series finale for the show.
"Better Dig Two" was an impressive feat of storytelling, with the only downfall being there was too much plot squeezed into a mere 42 minutes.
The action never stopped, which isn't a bad thing, especially after the slow start to the second half of Wynonna Earp Season 4, but the quick pace of storytelling was almost unfollowable.
And even the best of us probably suffered metaphorical whiplash trying to keep everything straight, as the show jumped from one plot point to the next at warp speed.

This Wynonna Earp article contains spoilers for Season 4, Episode 11: “Better Dig Two.”
“Better Dig Two,” the penultimate episode of Wynonna Earp Season 4, gave viewers a lot to unpack. Waverly was a Dark Angel, and then she wasn’t. Doc was the Clanton heir, and then he wasn’t. Everything was fucked, and then it wasn’t. This show does such a good job raising the stakes, but it doesn’t always nail its pacing. I would have liked to see the story beats hit in these last two episodes stretched out a bit longer, and really explored. Is the Dark Angel part of Waverly or are they two separate entities? Is there any part of Waverly who revels in her angel power? After so many years of pain, does Doc really want to die, and what does it mean that Wynonna wouldn’t let him? There’s so much rich,...

That's how it's done.
After a slow start to the final (!) six episodes, Wynonna Earp Season 4 Episode 10 was stellar, full of suspense, intrigue, and laughs, also managing to get the story back on track as we head into the show's last two installments.
It's the kind of episodes we've been craving all along, so let's hope this continues as our beloved little show that could take its final bow.
Angel Waverly was beautiful and terrifying in her own right.
She's such a departure from the fun-spirited, wacky, and loving Waverly that it wasn't even necessary for her to be monochrome and have wings for us to know that she's not our Waverly, but something else entirely.
Jolene: Does it ever get boring playing the role of damsel in distress?
Waverly: I don’t play the damsel.
Jolene: Or is it that you just don’t want the burden of being a hero?...

This Wynonna Earp review contains spoilers.
Wynonna Earp Season 4, Episode 8
Oh, to be a fly on the (probably Zoom) wall of the Wynona Earp writers’ room during the brainstorm session about which Halloween costumes each character should wear in this autumnal holiday-themed installment! Reader, they nailed it. Wynonna dresses as feminist hero Britney Spears (compliment of Waverly for both bringing the costume together and knowing that Wynonna would be into it), and Wonder Woman. Doc is bisexual icon Freddie Mercury. And Waverly… well, Waverly is a ladybug and then an angel. It’s all beyond perfect, and epitomizes just how much fun this slasher episode of Wynonna Earp truly is. Two episodes, and Wynonna Earp Season 4B continues to be… just an incredibly good time? There is a time and place for Important Television, and Wynonna Earp sometimes ducks into that intersection, but I don’t think we talk enough...

Exclusive: Billy Bryk (Wynonna Earp) has joined the cast of Jesse Eisenberg’s directorial debut When You Finish Saving the World, which, as we revealed earlier this year, will star Finn Wolfhard and Julianne Moore.
The A24 movie, a mother-son comedy-drama, has been scripted by Eisenberg and is being produced by Emma Stone and her SNL writer-director partner Dave McCary alongside Moore.
Inspired by Eisenberg’s Audible project of the same name, the film will have a slightly different focus than the audiobook, which was scripted by and starred Eisenberg. Set over three decades, the six-part audio show follows three members of a family: Nathan, a father learning to connect with his newborn son; Rachel, a young college student seeking to find her place in a relationship and in life; and Ziggy, a teenager hoping to figure out where he came from, and where he’s headed.
