This is not the first time, Alyson Hannigan played a lesbian. She was bisexual in Buffy the Vampire Slayer (1997). She had a crush on her best friend, Xander and had a boyfriend, Oz, but since season 4 she had been in a relationship with Tara (season 4-6) and Kennedy (season 7).
