I was not expecting much, but something caught my eye. I didn't even realize it was episodes until I found my self becoming interested and looked it up on Netflix to confirm it was the same movie. I was nowhere prepared for the exquisite beauty of the sets, the ambiance and reality they conveyed and the authenticity of the time periods!
The stories were those of horror, deceit, lust, love, licentiously delicious sex, hate and on and on.
I am a horror fan and was hooked from the first episode. It was fine, delicate almost, deep love, beautifully appointed home of a time before electric lights. There was a peace that pretty much permeates throughout the entire series. There is also a preternatural feel, a supernatural fingerprint that permeates the entire series as well.
The actors are skilled, I have memories of the fifties and visiting relatives and their friends whose homes looked, and "felt" the same. The everyday items and lack of artificial background noise, along with the excellent video techniques drew me right in. Masters of their Art. Beautiful.
The incredibly talented actors negotiated those sets as if they truly lived there, their characters exuded a confident portrayal of the person they played. True artists all.
The music is elegant, perfect. At the end of the second episode is a song that I fell in love with it, the cadence of the singer took me back to another time. I'll have to find out what the title is.
Highly recommend!
