Looking back, can we imagine a bright-eyed Rebel Wilson stepping onto the set of Paul Feig’s 2011 comedy flick Bridesmaids, ready to dive into the challenging waters of Hollywood? Who could have predicted the bittersweet symphony that would follow her joy at receiving her first American paycheck?
Recently, this cheery Australian actress, known for her exceptional wit and comedic timing, humbly shared her success story and the financial struggle during the Diary of a CEO podcast with Steven Bartlett. Despite being cast in a hit 2011 comedy that catapulted her into the spotlight, Wilson revealed that the joy was tempered by the harsh reality of a $3,500 salary being swallowed up almost entirely by SAG-AFTRA “union” dues.

Ever since they first started dating, Sacha Baron Cohen and Isla Fisher have been considered one of Hollywood’s most mysterious and unexpected pairs. Rebel Wilson details how Hollywood’s pay scales can increase exponentially in her new memoir, Rebel Rising. The actress and comedian opens up about her salaries for Bridesmaids and the Pitch Perfect trilogy.
Wilson writes in the book that she was paid only $3,500 for 2011’s Bridesmaids, which starred Kristen Wiig, Maya Rudolph, Rose Byrne and Melissa McCarthy (Wilson played Brynn, the obnoxious roommate of Wiig’s Annie Walker). But the entirety of her small check went to Screen Actors Guild fees to join the union. Nevertheless, “that didn’t matter to me,” Wilson writes. “The experience was everything!”
Wilson notes she booked six new gigs within two weeks of Bridesmaids‘ release, one of which was the 2012 a cappella smash hit, Pitch Perfect.
“Boy, did that movie pay dividends!” Wilson writes, noting she was paid “SAG minimum scale, which was $65,000,” for the film. Pitch Perfect’s success spawned two sequels, in...

Type-casting acts as quicksand in the world of Hollywood. One minute, an actor picks up a role for the sake of making their name. All of a sudden, they find themselves being sucked into it, not being able to escape the clutches of the identity that is being forced on them. Many actors have become prey to it and very few have managed to survive.

Rebel Wilson writes in her new memoir “Rebel Rising” that she was able to successfully negotiate a $10 million salary to reprise the role of Fat Amy in “Pitch Perfect 3” (via People). The payday proved how much of a career Wilson built for herself over six years as she earned just $3,500 for her small breakthrough in 2011’s “Bridesmaids.”
The small “Bridesmaids” sum “didn’t matter to me,” Wilson writes. She took the role and didn’t think twice about the salary because the fee was enough to get her into the SAG-AFTRA union, which meant more opportunities in Hollywood. Wilson says she booked six movies after “Bridesmaids” opened in theaters, “one of which was ‘Pitch Perfect.’ Boy, did that movie pay dividends!”
In an interview with The New York Times about her memoir, Wilson was asked about her decision to write candidly about some of the salaries she earned during her acting career thus far.

Rebel Wilson has recently made a surprising revelation in an excerpt from her new mémoire, Rebel Rising. Explaining how she believes Adele doesn’t like her, Wilson claimed that perhaps the singer’s hatred towards her was because of the way people often confused them for one another back in the day when they had gained a bit of weight.
Rebel Wilson as Stephanie in Senior Year
According to an excerpt obtained by US Weekly, the Pitch Perfect actress asserted that a few celebrities often took offense at the term “plus-size”. Assuming that perhaps that’s why even Adele hated her, Rebel Wilson noted how the singer would allegedly “always quickly” turn away when they crossed paths at events.
Adele’s Alleged Hatred Towards Rebel Wilson
Getting refreshingly candid about her journey to Hollywood success, the Pitch Perfect star Rebel Wilson penned a hilarious and inspiring mémoire, which also included her weight loss journey.

In 2003, popular actor Jack Black found himself in the middle of the scandal of the century. He managed to squirm his way into a prep school under false pretenses, committed the misdemeanor of impersonating a teacher named Ned Schneebly for the sake of acquiring a little rent money, and led the students to an epic battle of the bands performance that we're still talking about over two full decades later. It was a whole big thing.
Obviously, "School of Rock" went down in history as one of Black and director Richard Linklater's finest moments, not to mention its impact on the ensemble of incredibly talented child actors, all of whom actually played their respective instruments in the film. In short, it was the pop-culture event that inspired a whole generation of kids to embrace their inner punk-rock anarchists, eventually leading to a Broadway musical adaptation and even a short-lived Nickelodeon series.

You haven't seen the "Pitch Perfect" movies? A-ca-scuse me? That's a reference you'll get when you finally sit down to watch the 2012 comedy set in the world of competitive college a cappella. "It was never about the plays, it was about being with the people who 'get' you." Netflix has revealed an official trailer for a raunchy New York City romantic comedy film called Players, the latest from filmmaker Trish Sie. This is indeed about the "player" culture of super hot hookups and one-night-stands, where a woman helps guys with "plays" until he realizes he wants more than just one-night-stands. Of course, this is the same story they've been telling for decades. New York sportswriter Mack has spent years devising successful hook-up "plays" with her friends, but when she unexpectedly falls for one of her high society targets, she must learn what it takes to go from simply scoring to "playing for keeps." What a pitch. Gina Rodriguez stars as Mack, along with Damon Wayans Jr., Joel Courtney, Augustus Prew, Liza Koshy, Ego Nwodim, Marin Hinkle, and Tom Ellis. This is the...

This holiday weekend saw Vincent Chase return to theaters with Aquaman landing in first place and his highly anticipated turn in Ferrari still to come on Christmas Day. Sadly for the Medellín star and his Entourage, Aquaman landed with a thud while Ferrari isn’t expected to make much of a mark.
Yesterday saw Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom heading to an underwhelming $30 million 3 day debut. Well, it appears even that number was a bit of a pipe dream as the king of Atlantis is seeing a revised weekend of $28.1 million with its 4 day expected to hit just shy of $40 million. That number makes The Lost Kingdom the fourth worst opening in the entire Dceu (after Pandemic plagued titles like Wonder Woman 1984 and The Suicide Squad and this years bomb Blue Beetle). With horrible reviews (including a 5/10 from our own Chris Bumbray) and low audience exit polls (79% audience score and...

Paramount’s new twist on Mean Girls arrived on tracking today and let’s just say it’s not just hot with the cool girls. With double digit in unaided awareness among older and younger women over and under 25, the feature take of the Tina Fey scripted Broadway musical is looking at a $27M+ opening over the four-day MLK holiday.
Note that unaided is that portion of audience polling whereby the respondents organically cite a movie title they’re interested in seeing, and aren’t prompted by a pollster. What’s clear here is that the Mean Girls brand is extremely strong. Paramount is just beginning to get their Mean Girls campaign underway three weeks before the pic’s opening on Jan. 12.

"I just wanna have fun, and I want you to have fun." Amazon's Prime Video has revealed an official trailer for a romantic comedy / friendship dramedy called Sitting in Bars with Cake, made by Pitch Perfect 3 director Trish Sie. This will be launching on Prime Video in September, skipping theaters. Inspired by a true story, it's based on the book called "Sitting in Bars with Cake: Lessons and Recipes from One Year of Trying to Bake My Way to a Boyfriend". The author, Audrey Shulman, also wrote the screenplay for the film. Sitting in Bars with Cake recounts her year spent baking, bar-hopping, and offering up slices of cake to men in the hope of finding a boyfriend - which they dub "cakebarring". In the film, Yara Shahidi stars as Jane, the shy baker main character, and Odessa A’zion co-stars as her best friend who takes her out on the town.

In what’s a shockingly early first look, Universal brought “Wicked: Part One” to CinemaCon audiences.
The rough and unfinished footage opened with a young green witch trying to master her magical training and being told by instructor Michelle Yeoh she needs to harness her emotions. The footage was mixed in with the filmmakers talking about how and why they made the movie. We get solid looks at all the major cast members, including plenty of interaction between Erivo and Grande as the former has a complicated reaction to a gesture of friendship. “Maybe, some of us are just different.” We get a bit of grand dancing, Emerald City production values (nine million real tulips planted) and flying monkey action scenes.
The final montage of fantastical (and source-faithful) images are, of course, set to the chorus of “Defying Gravity.”

Anna Camp spent the last few years doing something sort of crazy for an actress who loves to work: saying no.
When “Pitch Perfect 3” hit theaters in December 2017, it marked the (maybe) end of the franchise with which Camp is still most closely associated. The half-billion dollar juggernaut about an all-female group of a cappella singers charmed audiences and thrust winsome mashups (Jessie J and Simple Minds?) into the cultural zeitgeist. It also gave Camp and her co-stars Anna Kendrick, Brittany Snow, and Rebel Wilson the roles that made their careers.
But, as often happens, the series’ popularity threatened to typecast Camp. Her inbox flooded with offers for other type-a achievers, just like her “Pitch Perfect” part Aubrey Posen — a character so uptight that we first meet her as she pukes her guts out during a particularly stressful competition.
That was enough to make Camp nearly quit the industry.

The trope surrounding the “funny fat friend” has long existed in Hollywood. It’s a trope that has forced many actors to be placed in a box, due to their physical appearance. Rebel Wilson is one entertainer who knows all too well what it’s like being pigeonholed into the “funny fat friend” trope after her experience in the Pitch Perfect franchise. Since the end of the film franchise in 2017, Wilson has dropped a significant amount of weight. Here’s a look at why Wilson’s Pitch Perfect contract prevented her from embarking on her health journey sooner.

It’s finally here, unless there’s something stashed away and kept secret, Assassin is the last film featuring Bruce Willis. Given the quality or lack thereof, of most of his later career output it seemed almost pointless to hope that he would go out on a high note, working with Jesse V. Johnson on White Elephant was probably his last chance of that. But could we at least hope that his last on-screen appearance wouldn’t be another embarrassment?

It’s the sort of title that sells itself: “Cocaine Bear.” It’s about a bear…who does cocaine. Who says the movies aren’t original anymore? But while that tempting two-word title sure sounds funny and frisky and different, imagine being the guy who pitched the initial story. If you think it’s wild that a film called “Cocaine Bear” got made — and is in theaters right now — you’re feeling a bit like its own creator: screenwriter Jimmy Warden.
Just picture those early pitches. “I think everybody was like, “Ok…great,’ when I was writing the movie, like, ‘Good luck with that,’ and then as it just kept gaining momentum, they have gotten pretty excited,” Warden said in recent interview with IndieWire. “I actually will say, to their credit, when I pitched it to [my family] — you know, because you go home for Thanksgiving or whatever it is and they’re like,...

Hollywood contracts can be a blessing and a curse. Some people wait for their entire careers to sign their names on the dotted line, while others must compromise their health and safety to land the gig. When Rebel Wilson signed her Pitch Perfect contract, she agreed to terms that went against her best interests and jeopardized her health. It’s easy to say she signed the papers, but when your big break is one signature away, who among us would have the fortitude to resist?
On a new episode of the Call Her Daddy podcast, Wilson says her Pitch Perfect contract prevented her from losing weight. Wilson played Patricia “Fat Amy” Hobart in the Pitch Perfect trilogy, a role that cast her as the “fat friend” of the singing ensemble.

Rebel Wilson revealed on a new episode of the “Call Her Daddy” podcast that her “Pitch Perfect” film contracts prevented her from losing weight. Wilson starred as the confident and bawdy Patricia “Fat Amy” Hobart in the “Pitch Perfect” trilogy, which ran from 2012 to 2017. It was Wilson’s back-to-back roles in “Bridesmaids” and the original “Pitch Perfect” that made her a breakthrough comedian in Hollywood.
“I did wait until ‘Pitch Perfect’ seemed like it was over,” Wilson said about making the decision to lose weight. “I couldn’t lose a massive amount of weight because it was in the contracts for that movie. You can’t lose — I think it’s not more than 10 pounds or gain more than 10 pounds. You have to kind of stay at the weight. It’s in your contract.”

Warm up those vocal cords and get your cups ready, because everyone's favorite acapella franchise is back! "Pitch Perfect" captured the hearts and ears of a generation, following the Barden Bellas, a university acapella group with dreams of taking over the world through song. The film trilogy was a glorious story of female friendship in equal parts heartfelt emotion and gross-out humor. While the films weren't all equal in quality (sorry "Pitch Perfect 3") the music was always excellent, carrying on the legacy of "Glee" (while playfully making fun of it) by making acapella music far cooler than it has any right to be.
With "Pitch Perfect 3" ending the trilogy back in 2017, it feels like the perfect time to catch up with beloved characters from the Barden Bellas like Beca (Anna Kendrick), Emily (Hailee Steinfeld), Chloe (Brittany Snow), and Fat Amy (Rebel Wilson). Strangely, "Pitch Perfect: Bumper in Berlin...

Atlas’ feature debut, “Soul Assassin” is described as a female-led, mind-bending sci-fi thriller. In it, a female former black ops soldier joins an experimental drone warfare program to hunt down her husband’s killer. When the technology is stolen, however, the hunter becomes the hunted.
“This is a groundbreaking genre film bound to be an audience favorite and an international dream cast of both veterans and rising stars adds even more appeal,” said Atlas, who wrote “Soul Assassin” along with Aaron Wolfe, based on their short film “Let Them Die Like Lovers.”

A new series by Christopher James
Mike White (left) makes himself one of the images of excess and wealth in "Brad's Status," one of four movies he wrote in 2017 (and the only one he also directed).
Do one for them; do one for you. If you can still do projects for yourself, you can keep your soul.
— Martin Scorsese: A Journey
Why not make a lot of movies and make a lot of money?
Mike White’s 2017 was full of many ups and downs. Few people would be able to make four movies in a year and have them all be good. Mike White decided to split the difference, making two personal projects alongside two painfully obvious cash grabs. White is among the credited writers on The Emoji Movie and Pitch Perfect 3. But that wasn't all. He also wrote and directed the comedy Brad’s Status, a passion project.

It’s going to be a really rich Christmas for exhibition, Sony and Marvel as Spider-Man: No Way Home barrels toward potentially the third-best second weekend ever with around $143M over the long Christmas period of Dec. 24-27.
Already, through four days, the Jon Watts MCU title counts $297.2M in the U.S. and Canada, 3% ahead of December 2015’s Star Wars: Force Awakens over the same frame.
But what does this spell for other major studios with big event movies? While it’s a question always asked during pre-pandemic Christmas periods whenever a single franchise movie sucks up the oxygen, it’s a more dire situation during a time when many wonder if Omicron will truly take its toll at the year-end domestic box office. Will Spider-Man: No Way Home be the only draw on the marquee, a repeat of Christmas 2015 when Star Wars: Force Awakens ruled and only one...

When Alena Smith sat down to tell the untold tale of famed poet Emily Dickinson, she imagined a three-year television series. She sold the show straight to series to Apple TV Plus in May 2018, more than a year before that streamer would even launch. To say that Smith’s goal of three seasons at an unproven entity had to come with risk and hope may be an understatement. But she was able to carry her original plan to fruition, and now “Dickinson” is the first Apple TV Plus series to conclude its run having carried out its creator’s vision.
“In Season 3 we’ve lived through a lot with these characters, we’ve all grown and changed and their relationships have certainly deepened over time, and to just honor all of that history was really rewarding,” Smith tells Variety.
“To me, this whole series is really one work of art.

Exclusive: Christiana Dell’Anna (Gomorrah), John Lithgow (The Crown), David Morse (The Green Mile), Rolando Villazón (La Bohèmme) and more will star in an Untitled Cabrini Film from Alejandro Monteverde.
The film tells the story of Francesca Cabrini, one of the greatest entrepreneurs of the 19th Century, who began with nothing and created the largest multinational charitable empire the world had ever known, her accomplishments equaling those of Vanderbilt and Rockefeller. While Cabrini was faced in her time with the sexism and virulent anti-Italian bigotry of 19th century America, she overcame every obstacle through relentless perseverance and business skill, eventually building schools, orphanages and hospitals that transformed the lives of immigrants worldwide.
The Untitled Cabrini Film also stars Montserrat Espadalé, Romana Maggiora Vergano, Patch Darragh, Jeremy Bobb, Virginia Bocelli, Andrew Polk, and Giampiero Judica.
The Francesca Films pic’s producers include Academy Award and BAFTA Award winner Jonathan Sanger and Leo Severino. Rod Barr wrote the script; he collaborated on the story with TIFF’s People’s Choice Award winner Monteverde.
The film is currently in production in New York; the shoot will wrap up in Rome this fall. The project was the brainchild of financier Eustace Wolfington, whose passion for the story of Francesca Cabrini began over 60 years ago.
“The minute I learned of Cabrini’s life story, I realized this was a story that deserved to be brought to the big screen,” said Wolfington. “As a pioneer of human rights long before today, her story will be an inspiration to today’s pioneers of human rights which makes her story and unprecedented accomplishments as relevant today as ever.”
“As an immigrant myself, I am honored to be able to shine a light on the astonishing story of a true warrior of social justice who transformed the lives of immigrants worldwide,” said Monteverde. “Cabrini was a pioneer of women’s empowerment, making her story as relevant today as in the 1890’s. This picture – like Cabrini herself – is surprising, courageous, gritty… and deeply inspirational.”
“In a time when the achievements of women in every sphere of life have inspired a new generation, it is fascinating to contemplate the work of Francesca Cabrini, an Italian immigrant who came to New York in 1889. She would fit perfectly as a leader in today’s world,” added Sanger.
Christiana Dell’Anna’s film credits include Tensione superficiali, Mr. Happiness and more. She has appeared on the small screen in such series as Gomorrah (HBO Max) and Trust (FX). She’s represented in the U.S. by Cavalry Media, and by Volver Consulenze Artistiche in Italy.
A two-time Oscar nominee, John Lithgow recently earned his 13th Emmy nomination for his supporting turn in HBO’s reimagining of Perry Mason. He’ll next appear in Showtime’s Dexter revival, reprising his role as Arthur Mitchell (aka The Trinity Killer), and in FX’s The Old Man. His recent film credits include Bombshell, Late Night and Pitch Perfect 3. Additional TV credits include The Crown, Trial & Error and 3rd Rock from the Sun. Lithgow is repped by UTA, Anonymous Content and attorney Don Steele at Hansen, Jacobson, Teller, Hoberman, Newman, Warren, Richman, Rush, Kaller & Gellman.
Two-time Emmy nominee David Morse will soon appear in Netflix drama The Chair, opposite Sandra Oh. His recent TV credits include The Good Lord Bird, Blindspot, The Morning Show, The Deuce and Escape at Dannemora. Recent film credits include Thank You for Your Service and Concussion. Morse is repped by UTA, Kipperman Management, Arcieri & Associates, and attorney Diane Golden at Katz Golden Lerner.
Rolando Villazón is an opera singer and director whose credits include Mozart in Prague: Rolando Villazón on Don Giovanni, La Bohèmme and La Traviata. He is repped by Columbia Artists Management.
Monteverde is represented by Sentient Entertainment and attorney Sean A. Marks of Marks Law Group.

Keri Russell, Ray Liotta, Alden Ehrenreich, O’Shea Jackson and Jesse Tyler Ferguson have joined the cast of Universal’s “Cocaine Bear,” which Elizabeth Banks will direct, and Phil Lord and Christopher Miller will produce, according to an individual with knowledge of the project.
“Cocaine Bear” will be Banks’ third feature after last directing “Charlie’s Angels” in 2019 and “Pitch Perfect 3” from 2015. “Cocaine Bear” is based on a true story of events that took place in Kentucky in 1985. Jimmy Warden wrote the spec screenplay on which the film will be based.
The film’s story is inspired by a New York Times article and is exactly what the title suggests – about a 175-pound black bear that died after ingesting a duffel bag full of cocaine. The cocaine had been dropped out of an airplane by a convicted smuggler because he was carrying too heavy a load.

Mike White’s return to television is inching closer. The filmmaker is slated to return to HBO via “The White Lotus,” which will premiere on HBO in July.
“The White Lotus” will mark White’s reunion with HBO following “Enlightened,” his two-season comedy series that was canceled by the premium cabler in 2013. Since then, White has written scripts for “Beatriz at Dinner,” “The Emoji Movie,” “Pitch Perfect 3,” and the most recent Disney+ feature “The One and Only Ivan.” He also contributed to the “School of Rock” TV series that ran from 2016 to 2018.
Amid the pandemic, “The White Lotus” was filmed in Hawaii under strict health and safety guidelines.
“It’s beyond exciting to return to HBO with this project and such an incredible cast,” White said in a statement last year. “I am very grateful to everyone who has made it possible for us to bring our little bubble to Hawaii,...
