The controversial and contentious experiment where Warner Bros. has debuted its 2021 slate of feature films on HBO Max will hit a crescendo in October thanks to the releases of “The Many Saints of Newark” and “Dune” on the streaming platform. Both “Many Saints” producer and co-writer David Chase and “Dune” filmmaker Denis Villeneuve have criticized the corporate decision to release films day-and-date in theaters and via HBO Max, but despite the outcry, the two highly anticipated features lead a massive lineup of acclaimed library movie titles and Emmy Award-winning original series coming to the network in October 2021. Highlights include:

Time and time again during this year’s pandemic, movie studios have had to make the best of a bad situation. HBO Max’s list of new releases for December 2020 comes along with the most extreme example yet.
WarnerMedia undoubtedly had big plans for Wonder Woman 1984 when it scheduled it for a holiday release last year. After moving it to the summer, however, the conglomerate had to delay its theatrical release time and time again. Now HBO Max is the lucky winner of the saga, as it gets to premiere the long-awaited sequel on its servers on Dec. 25.
While Wonder Woman 1984 is definitely the headline this month, there are some other intriguing streaming options for HBO Max in December. The month plays host to a whole host of high-powered documentaries like Heaven’s Gate: The Cult of Cults (Dec. 3), Alabama Snake (Dec. 9), and the Tiger Woods documentary Tiger (Dec.

The Wayans brothers have never exactly been bastions of high quality cinema, with Marlon in particular a repeat offender responsible for a string of terrible comedies like Little Man, Dance Flick, A Haunted House and the sequel, Fifty Shades of Black, Naked and Sextuplets. None of those movies found anything even approaching critical acclaim, but several of them did decent business at the box office and the 48 year-old has been collaborating with Netflix on a regular basis, so there must be a good sized audience for his work.
One entry from the writer/actor/producer’s back catalogue that’s remained inexplicably popular is White Chicks, the 2004 comedic effort directed by Keenen Ivory and starring Shawn and Marlon in the lead roles. It sees two sibling FBI agents go undercover and end up tasked with protecting the socialite Wilson sisters, before eventually being forced to disguise themselves as the titular white chicks.

"Since we hit the road together, I've done things I've only seen on television." Netflix has just launched an official trailer for a new comedy from Marlon Wayans titled Sextuplets, and it looks as awful as it sounds and seems just from that title alone. From the director of the spoofs A Haunted House and Fifty Shades of Black comes a new comedy about an expecting father-to-be who discovers that he has many other siblings and tries to track them down before his baby is born. This is a spoof on, another comedy, maybe? But who cares, it looks terrible. Marlon Wayans stars in the lead role, and plays all the other siblings, much like Tyler Perry does in his movies. The cast also includes Molly Shannon, Glynn Turman, Bresha Webb, Debbi Morgan, and Michael Ian Black. Why do they still make these kind of movies? It looks so, so bad.

When Shari Sebbens graduated from Nida and Waapa she expected her fair complexion would mean she would be cast mostly as white characters in shows about Indigenous people.
Happily she was wrong. After making her screen debut in Wayne Blair’s 2012 hit The Sapphires she starred in a bunch of series including Redfern Now, The Gods of Wheat Street, 8Mmm Aboriginal Radio and Black Comedy, all true to her cultural identity.
“I think The Sapphires confused the hell out of everybody as they thought, ‘She looks white but she says she’s Aboriginal,’ she tells If. “It’s something our community has known since colonisation: our people come in very different shades. I call it the Fifty Shades of Black.”

Marlon Wayans of White Chicks fame, is set to star in a new Netflix comedy called Sextuplets and he will play six different characters in the film! Wayans is known for his silly comedy movie work, so it's not surprising to see him take on a project like this. Here are the story details:
Sextuplets tells the story of Alan (Wayans), a man embarking on a personal journey to meet his birth mother before the arrival of his first child. When Alan meets his brother, Russell, he discovers that he was born a sextuplet and decides to seek out his four other siblings (all played by Wayans). Together, the two brothers set out on a road trip to track down the rest of the family that they’ve never known, and Alan quickly realizes he may have gotten more than he bargained for.

For composer Jim Dooley, stepping into season two of “A Series of Unfortunate Events” was “like putting on a warm coat. This kind of dark fantasy world is really something I feel very comfortable doing.” Based on the book series by Lemony Snicket (a.k.a. Daniel Handler), this Netflix comedy centers on the three Baudelaire siblings: Violet (Malina Weissman), Klaus (Louis Hynes), and Sunny (Presley Smith). After their parents die in a mysterious fire, they face trials and tribulations while uncovering dark family secrets, all while the evil Count Olaf (Neil Patrick Harris) tries to steal their family fortune. Watch our exclusive video interview with Dooley above.

Identity is a prevalent theme in Russell Peters’ stand-up, and it also serves as the launch pad for the laughs in “The Indian Detective,” his new four-episode series now streaming on Netflix.
“Identity comedy is universal. I may be talking about my Indian parents, but I know that my ‘Indian’ parents are the same as everyone’s parents in some way — Greek, Italian, Arab, Chinese,” Peters said. “That’s what my audience is responding to. I’m also exploring race and culture, and a lot of people aren’t comfortable with that.”
In “The Indian Detective,” Peters stars as Toronto Police constable Doug D’Mello, a man desperate to prove his salt and be promoted to detective, but instead winds up suspended following a bust gone wrong. Through a guilty ploy by his father (Anupam Kher), he heads to Mumbai during his repose where a pretty girl (Mishqah Parthiephal) leads...

(Aotn) There’s something about some of Marlon Wayans’ career choices this decade that could understandably be seen as “frustrating.” The youngest of the Wayans brothers has demonstrated a great knack for physical comedy (the first two entries in the Scary Movie franchise and even the goofy yet riotous White Chicks) and an equally impressive potential as a serious actor (his dramatic turn in Requiem for a Dream), but his latest – the declining Haunted House movies and the abysmal Fifty Shades of Black, which actually managed to make the series it’s spoofing look like Last Tango in Paris by comparison – are a an embarrassing nose dive in comedic standard. Enter Michael Tiddes’ Naked, not the 1993 Cannes winner by Mike Leigh, Netflix’s latest comedic offering and a breath of stale air that actually manages to find a hint of freshness and showcase some of the good qualities of Mr.

For many, Groundhog Day qualifies as a near-perfect comedy. Apparently, though, there are some highly motivated people out there who think it’d be a whole lot funnier if the guy stuck in the endless time loop were constantly running around with his bare ass exposed and his hands covering his junk. Back in 2000, Swedish brothers Mårten and Torkel Knutsson tested this theory with their film Naken, in which protagonist Anders relives the same hour leading up to his wedding, over and over, waking up nude in an elevator each time the loop resets. Nobody liked Naken much, but Marlon Wayans seems to have decided that the problem lay in the execution, not in the conception—and to have further decided that he and director Michael Tiddes, with whom he’d previously collaborated on the critically reviled A Haunted House and Fifty Shades Of Black, could succeed where the ...

It’s been an exciting awards season this year, but it’ll all come to an end tomorrow night when the 89th Academy Awards take place. La La Land is expected to walk away victorious in most categories and analysts aren’t predicting too many upsets or surprises. But the Oscars aren’t the only big awards ceremony taking place this weekend, as the 37th Golden Raspberry Awards, or Razzies for short, have just concluded and the results are now in.
There were certainly more than a handful of horrible, awful, waste of time films to release in 2016, but the biggest offenders here seem to be Dirty Grandpa, Zoolander 2, Hilary’s America: The Secret History of the Democratic Party and Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice. Awards season finally comes to an end tomorrow night with the 89th Academy Awards, and the 37th Golden Raspberry Awards (nicknamed the Razzies) are honoring the very worst films of 2016. It turns out that it was such a horrific year at multiplexes that the categories were expanded to include six nominees.
Read More: 2017 Oscar Predictions
Ben Stiller’s critically reviled “Zoolander 2” had the most nominations of the year, competing in nine categories, including the coveted Worst Picture. Other multiple nominees included “Dirty Grandpa” (six nominations), “Independence Day: Resurgence” (five nominations) and “Alice Through the Looking Glass” (three nominations). But two films took home the majority of the dubious honors, with the bloated mashup of “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” and lazy propaganda of “Hillary’s America: The Secret History of the Democratic Party” “winning” all but one of the top dishonors.
Below are all of this year’s Razzie nominees.

Welcome back to the Weekend Warrior, your weekly look at the new movies hitting theaters this weekend, as well as other cool events and things to check out.
This Past Weekend:
As per my Thursday update, M. Night Shyamalan’s thriller Split ended up winning the weekend but with way more than anyone, including myself, predicted, with more than $40 million for its opening weekend. That’s pretty impressive, and his first movie to open at that level since 2010’s The Last Airbender. Meanwhile, Vin Diesel’s sequel xXx: The Return of Xander Cage ended up making around where I predicted, taking second place with $20.1 million, not a great sign for the continuation of that franchise. Michael Keaton’s The Founder ended up right around where I predicted with $3.4 million, ending up just outside the Top 10. Hidden Figures, La La Land and Sing continued to do well with minimal drop-offs.

Dishonoring the worst achievements in film every year, the 37th Annual Razzie Awards announced their nominations today, with “Zoolander No. 2” and “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” leading the pack. The organization called one a “15-years-too-late sequel,” and the other a “Wtf comic book battle-royale.”

Andy Warhol famously predicted that in the future, everyone would be famous for 15 minutes. In the case of Vine, however, that formula was often reduced to six seconds. The video-sharing app’s popularity, however, lasted just a little bit longer.
Twitter announced today that it is shutting down the service, which the social-media giant bought in 2012. Vine gave users a platform to share six seconds of video that would play on an automatic loop. It quickly became a destination for comedians, musicians, artists, and filmmakers, many of whom pushed the app’s video capabilities to creative heights. Others used it more like a condensed YouTube channel, posting condensed comedy sketches for a generation reared on short attention spans. More popular users gained millions of followers and launched careers steeped in lucrative marketing deals. But once Twitter and Facebook began offering their own video-sharing capabilities, Vine struggled to find a broader user base.
