It’s summer time on Hulu and that can only mean one thing. With its list of new releases for June 2023, Hulu is bringing back last summer’s unexpected hit.
FX’s The Bear season 2 premieres all episodes on June 22. If you’re not already captivated by this intense culinary story about the little Italian beef shop that could, definitely catch up now. This time around, Carmy (Jeremy Allen White) and friends will attempt a major foodie rebrand. The only other Hulu series of note this month is the docuseries The Age of Influence. Premiering on June 5, this doc will examine the dark side of influencer culture.
Just like its corporate partner Disney+, Hulu will premiere Eva Longoria’s directorial debut, Flamin’ Hot, in June 9. The movie tells the true story of Frito-Lay janitor Richard Montañez (Jesse Garcia) who created an iconic snack that forever changed the food industry. Also...

Warner Bros. Discovery has had a rough go of it recently. The newly-formed mega corporation’s decision to callously prune HBO Max’s servers of hours of content has led to mountains of bad PR and billions of dollars in market cap losses. Suffice it to say, a jam-packed list of new HBO Max releases for September 2022 would provide some welcome relief for the “House of the House of the Dragon.”
Unfortunately, HBO Max’s new releases this month are uncommonly light. It’s impossible to say whether this is the result of more Wbd meddling or simply some bad scheduling luck but either way it’s not going to make any executives’ seats less warm. There are only a handful of notable originals this month, led by season 2 of the Spanish language comedy Los Espookys on Sept. 16. That is joined by a pair of documentaries, Escape from Kabul on Sept.

"You can't allow yourself to be captured." IFC Films has debuted an official trailer for an indie true story film titled The Catcher Was a Spy, the latest from director Ben Lewin. This first premiered at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year, but the reviews were bad. The Catcher Was a Spy tells the story of Morris "Moe" Berg, played by Paul Rudd, the Major League Baseball player, Ivy League graduate, attorney and top-secret spy who helped the Us defeat Nazi Germany in the race to build the atomic bomb. That's quite a pitch, but it doesn't seem this will live up to that hype. The impressive cast includes Jeff Daniels, Mark Strong, Sienna Miller, Guy Pearce, Paul Giamatti, and Hiroyuki Sanada. Featuring a score by Howard Shore (which might be the most exciting part?). I'm always curious about WWII films, and this has my attention. It looks better...

Activists, ambassadors and actors gathered at the United Nations earlier this month to underline their commitment to empowering women and girls with autism, a lifelong neurological condition that begins in childhood and is characterized by some degree of impaired social behaviour, communication and language.

Women and girls were the focus on World Autism Awareness Day, observed on 2 April: a segment of the global population that faces “multiple challenges,” as Un Secretary-General António Guterres stated in his message for the Day.
Speaking at the commemorative event in the Economic and Social Council (Ecosoc) Chamber, Alison Smale, head of Global Communications at the Un, outlined some of the many forms of discrimination women and girls with autism face.
“They are denied equal access to education and employment, to healthcare services, justice and equal recognition before the law, and they are far too often...

Here’s your chance to attend a screening of “Please Stand By” in New York with Dakota Fanning – and help charity.
“Did you know that approximately one percent of the world population has autism spectrum disorder?” asks Dakota. "With almost 1 in 68 individuals affected, autism is the fastest-growing developmental disability in the Us. In my new film, Please Stand By, I play a young woman with autism who runs away from her caregiver in an attempt to submit her manuscript to a Star Trek writing competition. I’m so proud of this film and for giving characters with this disability such a strong, powerful voice. Now I’m raising money to help people living with autism and I want to ask for your support.

The recent outpouring of sexual assault allegations is a watershed moment in Hollywood history, but there’s one question on everyone’s minds: What’s a conscientious feminist to watch on TV these days? The discerning yet moral media lover has found themselves in quite a quandary as admired directors, producers, actors, and comedians have revealed to have abused their industry clout to intimidate, harass, and assault. In response to this universal quandary, musical comedy duo Reformed Whores have composed a plaintive lament to the beloved talent left standing.
Aptly titled “Keep It in Your Pants,” their song begins: “Hollywood has been so irresponsible, each week it seems a new abuser is named. And while I’m happy that people are being held accountable, I don’t want it to affect the way I’m entertained. Of course I think the patriarchy should be dismantled, but not if it means...

This is a charming trailer for an upcoming indie film called Please Stand By, which as you'll see, is inspired by Star Trek fandom. The movie tells the story of a young autistic woman played by Dakota Fanning who writes a 500-page Star Trek script for a writing competition. The film follows her as she embarks on a journey to hand-deliver the script in Hollywood. Here's a description of the story:
A young autistic woman runs away from her caregiver in order to boldly go and deliver her 500-page Star Trek script to a writing competition in Hollywood. On an adventure full of laughter and tears, Wendy, played with exquisite delicacy by Dakota Fanning, follows the guiding spirit of Mr. Spock on her journey into the unknown. "It is there for us to conquer, not to fear."
The movie also stars Toni Collette, Alice Eve, River Alexander, Marla Gibbs, Jessica Rothe,...

There’s a lot going on in the trailer for “Please Stand By.”
The dramedy, set to be released early next year, follows Wendy (Dakota Fanning), a young autistic girl and stalwart Cinnabon employee who becomes consumed by a “Star Trek” scriptwriting contest. She has a sister (Alice Eve), a dog with weak bladder control, and a dream to get to Hollywood to hand-deliver her entry before the deadline. (Judging by her confident strides past Walt Disney Concert Hall, looks like she’s got a decent shot.) And hey, Toni Collette’s here too!

Is it time for the Dakota Fanning-aissance? The actress held the Fanning family limelight for a quite a while, but it has since been overtaken by her sister Elle Fanning. However, with a hotly buzzed new series coming soon with “The Alienist,” and now this movie, perhaps it’s time for Dakota Fanning to regain a bit of shine.
Co-starring Toni Collette, Alice Eve, Patton Oswalt, and Tony Revolori, and directed Ben Lewin (“The Sessions,” the upcoming “The Catcher Was A Spy” which is headed to Sundance), the unique premise follows a young, autistic woman who has written an epic “Star Trek” script.

The Please Stand By trailer depicts Dakota Fanning as an autistic Trekkie, who embarks on a quest submit her script.
Upcoming indie comedy drama Please Stand By will fly a flag of fandom that Star Trek enthusiasts should appreciate. The film depicts the travails of a young woman (Dakota Fanning) in a trek of a different nature – on the road to Hollywood – to enter her original script in a contest.
