Aziz Ansari searched for two Indian actors to play his parents, but was unable to find anyone suitable for the roles, and eventually cast his real life parents, who are not actors.

Goofs
Aziz Ansari's character's name is Dev Shah and yet he is shown speaking Tamil in the childhood shots. It is not entirely out of the realm of the possible for a 'Shah' to live in Tamil Nadu but it is a stretch that they would talk Tamil at home and address their grandfather as 'Thatha'. People with the surname Shah are usually from Gujarat and speak Gujarati.

Love season 1 & 2... and 3

Yes, S1 & S2 packed with sharp and comedic scenes (fantastic writing!). Season 3 is a different animal, but I think it's really good. Aziz did excellent job (he seemed learned a lot)! Although perhaps he should create a different series with S3 so some particular fans of S1 & S2 won't feel "betrayed".
