Food history

Well British television love garden shows and they love cooking shows.

Here is a combination with Kate Humble delving into the history of Kew Garden, gardening and vegetation. Michelin chef Raymond Blanc cultivating your own fruit and veg and cooking it. The horticulturists of Kew Garden help out with expert comment.

The series is divided into season. Autumn sees Humble and Blanc growing mushrooms, the history of tomatoes and sugar beat. The importance of the pumpkin to early American settlers and why the pineapple was once a status symbol.

The historical aspect is interesting. The documentary aspects less so and the cooking, although Blanc is amiable, could rather care less for cooking. When does anyone actually cook anything they see on TV?
