Early drafts of the script, showed Tyrese as a much darker character dealing with more personal issues (mainly depression and infidelity). Writer/Director John Michael Nolan wanted Tyrese to be portrayed as a stronger character (like most successful athletes), or as a person to be admired or looked up to for his perseverance and strength, not as his own worst enemy.
