This film feels fun in the beginning if you're a fan of Welcome to Night Vale and just binge watched the first season of Stranger Things and need something to fill the gaping hole season two couldn't fill. Unfortunately by the end you'll feel just as unfulfilled as when you started. It's a bummer because it has some of my favorites in it's cast: Paul Scheer, Chris Parnell, and a cameo by Hannibal Buress. As well as rising stars Zazie Beetz, Chance the Rapper, Rae Gray, and Joe Keery (who are adorable). It did have enough 80's synth throwback to satiate a very basic lizard brain part of my soul. Visually it was ok, there were a lot of great color themes that would have been cool if they carried into the rest of the film. I was pretty bummed and confused the ghosts didn't have any level of opacity/special effects to them. I feel like we're so far past the bad theater makeup for arts sake. I have to agree there wasn't any real humor or scares which made for a really flat film. It had so much potential and some really great ingredients but just never made it above basic unfortunately. I definitely wouldn't not recommend this film. But would advise to set the tone with a Digiorno pizza and eat some cannabis food before watching.
The movie started strong with good music and cinematography and jokes that were funny and explained the world they live pretty well, chance acting was just bad and feel the movie could have been better. The last half really felt like a B horror movie and loses fuel in the comedy which is kinda expected. Don't go into this thinking it's an instant classic. But 100% worth a watch if you like B horror comedies
Hands down the worst movie I've seen in 2018. It honestly fails on every front . Dialogue, acting, mystery , jokes , pacing and plot are completely terrible and fall flat in almost every moment ... well , except for when Paul Sheer goes way over board on the line that heads this review . But that took an hour and 19 minutes to get to. Things as simple as plot twists and the "who done its" are literally shown to you multiple times before there reveals making the entire thing pointless. The main joke of the entire thing is never funny and has been done better in low budget indie films from the early 2000s . I haven't turned off a movie in some time , but this one almost got me there. The only thing keeping me from giving it a 1 is its quality lighting and camera work. Theres nothing more odd or upsetting than a terrible movie that looks good . It's like a trick on the senses. Pass on this and save yourself the boredom .
Im not hard to please when it comes to movies but i can confidently tell you this movie is trash and should be in the bin.
Terrible acting, tried to be funny but failed, story line is so cliche and dumb.
I thought to myself before seeing this movie "it cant be that bad" and it was that bad.
Slice (2018) is a movie that I finally watched on Tubi. The storyline follows a town that recently had a pizza boy brutally murdered. As the police, town and pizza shop uncover clues on who the murderer is it becomes apparent the pizza shop may be haunted and there may be werewolves in town.
This movie is written and directed by Austin Vesely in hit directorial debut and stars Zazie Beetz (Joker), Chance the Rapper (Space Jam: A New Legacy), Rae Gray (Fear the Walking Dead), Joe Kerry (Stranger Things) and Y'lan Noel (Insecure).
There is so much to like about this movie...and somehow it still ends up being not good. The animation during the opening credits was cool. The first kill and throat slash was worthwhile. It was cool seeing Joe Kerry from Stranger Things in this. The settings and attire are well done as is the lighting and cinematography. Unfortunately after the first kill there really aren't any more good kill scenes. The makeup and "monsters" look cheesy and the script is painful at times. The ending was okay and the use of CGI did not work for me.
Overall, this is a movie that tries to be more stylish than good. I would score this a 4.5/10 and only recommend watching it if nothing better is available.
