Yejin rejects Do Ji's marriage proposal. Hur Jun encounters a mysterious man and begs to be taken in as his apprentice. Back at the infirmary, Hur Jun gets demoted. Yoo Doji confesses his love for Yejin to his parents.
By day, Hur Jun works his job at the infirmary. By night, he diligently studies under his new mentor. Dr. Yoo takes Hur Jun to treat a bedridden patient. Mrs. Yoo eagerly plans to marry off both Yoo Doji and Lady Yejin.
Dr. Yoo recognizes Hur Jun's ability and puts him in charge of the medicine warehouse. Dahee gives birth to a baby boy. Busampo becomes disdainful. Dahee learns about the hardships of being lower class.

It's a race against the clock, as Hur Jun only has two days to travel 100km to Seoul in order to take the medical examination. Yoo Doji retakes the exam.
Hur Jun and Dr. Yoo are called to treat the sickly magistrate. Dr. Yoo reconciles with Hur Jun and welcomes him back to the infirmary. Yoo Doji begins orientation at the palace.
Dol Swe suddenly shows up at the infirmary demanding Hur Jun to heal his mother's blindness. Meanwhile, Yoo Do Ji is given his first challenge in the palace.

One night, a medical keeper hangs himself in the herb storage. Yang Tae, Koo Il Suh, and Oh Geum blunder a deal. Hur Jun gives a training course on acupuncture to the nurses. Lee Jung Myung's acquaintance suddenly dies mysteriously.
Hur Jun informs Lee Jung Myung that his associate, Mr. Ku, was poisoned over a long period of time. Hur Jun hatches a plan to find out from where the poison originated. Da Hee is discovered by her brother.

The police general who recognizes Hur Jun starts investigating him. Hong Choon reciprocates Oh Geun's gestures. Hur Jun is dispatched to the countryside where plague is raging throughout.
Just when the doctors think they found a cure to the plague, it relapses. Chae Sun contracts the plague. Yoo Do Ji returns from China. The police general reaffirms that he will arrest Hur Jun after a cure for the plague is found.
