It's 1963. Peter van Dijk is looking for a new television presenter and asks his two nieces if they are interested. Eef thinks she's perfect for the job, but when her father forbids it, she insists Ietje auditions so she can come along and try out as well.
Ietje has been chosen to be the new TV presenter, even though she didn't really want the job and feels terrible about taking her sister Eefs dream job.
While Ietje is becoming nationally famous, Peter manages to reunite the singing duo of Benno and Will, even if he has to sideline Benno's new, younger partner Annemarie to do so.
Eef is pregnant, but her lover Rudy has been shipped overseas. When Ietje is asked to prepare questions and a short film item for the reunion of Benno and Will, she finds dramatic footage in the archive.
The Benny and Will interview received a mix of reactions but still enough positive ones to discuss similar difficult subjects on TV. Will is inspired to write songs again while Eef is contemplating to put her unborn baby up for adoption.
Benno and Will's comeback is cut short when he uncovers new information about their troubled past. Ietje is growing closer to cameraman Niek against her fathers wishes, and then finds out her ex-boyfriend Laurens is going to marry Eef.
Peter is told by his doctor he hasn't got long to live and begins to say goodbye to friends and family. Ietje's father won't allow her and Niek to attend Eef's wedding.
The KRO is about to celebrate the first twelve and a half years of Dutch television, but Ietje wants to dedicate the show to a good cause to honor her uncle Peter.
