Skinless Dr. Powell resembles skinless Frank in Hellraiser, and both films share common themes about an evil human trying to open a portal to a hellish otherworld. The scene in The Void where the son is being chased down the narrow passage by the Sarah-Creature is shot and edited like the scene in Hellraiser where Kirsty is pursued by the Engineer. In both scenes the human reaches the end of the hellish passageway and emerges into a hospital ward, then looks back and sees that the passage has been blocked by a solid wall.
