The Business Proposal is a dark stylized postmodern comedy set in 1981 Soviet Union. A routine meeting of the editorial staff of a student newspaper turns out to be a small window into supposedly nonexistent underbelly of the Soviet life. The story slowly pushes the envelope from a misleadingly mundane opening through a twist to an absurd and surreal finale. Editorial staff wraps a meeting; only the two stay for a private chat - the editor and one of the writers, who turns out to be the editor's lover. The evening takes an unpleasant turn when the lover admits to 'sniffing at momma's.' The editor breaks into a hysteria. The parties only reconcile after the editor presents his lover with... an amputated human face.
