When an ATF agent out of Houston is tasked to team up with the Mexico City District Attorney on a human trafficking case, he uncovers family ties with a serpentine real-estate developer. Now he must work with a criminal defense attorney to stop the reign of tyranny.

Two brothers Eduardo and Franco are torn out of each other's lives when their mother Angela Manrique-Obregon tries to flee Mexico after discovering her husband, Alvaro Manriques criminal dealings. Alvaro tracks down a pregnant Angela with 7 year old Franco as she attempts to make contact with her old friend Tracy. When Angela goes into labor Tracy must rush her to the hospital with Franco. Things go awry when Alvaros men catch up to her and taker her and the newborn Eduardo back to Mexico. In a last ditch effort Tracy manages to escape and take Franco with her and promises Angela to keep him safe.

Years later, Franco is now a weathered ATF agent who is sent to work with Rebecca Linares and Liz Gomez. Rebecca is the Mexico City DA investigating Alvaro Manrique as a possible connection to the recent illegal trafficking busts. She works with Liz Gomez who is undercover looking for information on Alvaro. Franco and Liz have a romantic history together that never came to fruition and after Liz left to Mexico they are reunited and have to learn how to work together. Alvaro, who is now a prominent real-estate developer in Mexico City as well as a big importer and exporter. He has amassed a fortune running guns and trafficking people as well as manipulating political officials.

His work is overseen by Culebra his right hand. Culebra has always had it out for Eduardo and thinks he is a spoiled daddys boy. Eduardo is a defense attorney who isnt aware of his fathers criminal dealings but occasionally helps in defending some of his fathers clients. He does this without question in order to show his loyalty. He knows Rebecca well. They have a professional relationship as attorneys but Eduardo knows that Rebecca will not stop until she can find dirt on Alvaro. Eduardo is also trying to raise his daughter Ana Francis after his wife died in a car accident. He also is caring for his mother Angela, now in her 60s, who has been mentally scarred by the tragic events of losing her son Franco/Francisco.

Franco, Rebecca, and Liz continue their investigation. They are trying to find a lead on when these illegal shipments are supposed to happen. Franco is tasked to check on a possible lead. He investigates a Carlos Pena who may be a runner for Alvaro. During his investigation Franco discovers Carlos is in possession of a crate full of firearms. He manages to apprehend Carlos and take him into custody for further questioning. During a night with Alvaro, Liz overhears Culebra on a possible shipment schedule. Franco and Rebecca use this information to raid one of Alvaros shipping facilities only to find nothing.

This was false information leaked by Culebra. He suspected Liz was not being truthful with who she is. Eduardo is angry at Rebecca for embarrassing his father with the raid and also the detainment of Carlos Pena. He confronts Rebecca. She tries to convince Eduardo that his father is a criminal and he needs to know. She slips Eduardo some documents that will hopefully convince him. Liz hasnt been seen in days and this worries Rebecca and Franco. Franco goes to confront Alvaro. Blaming him for Lizs disappearance. But Alvaro denies his involvement. Alvaro meets with Eduardo and asks him to do something about Franco

After Eduardos meeting with his father, Eduardo cant stop thinking about his conversation with Rebecca. Eduardo decides to look at Rebeccas documents and do a little research. He finds a connection with her documents and invoices from Alvaros offices. Eduardo begins to struggle with his doubts. He decides to meet with Rebecca and confirm some of her leads. But before he does he asks to meet with Franco. Franco and Eduardo meet. When Eduardo finds observes how Franco cuts his bread he finds out that it is similar to what his mother does. He decides to have Franco meet with Angela. When they meet Angela snaps out of her mental state and is overjoyed by the return of her first born son. Franco is also overwhelmed by this reunion and knowing he has a family. This changes everything for Eduardo and he is now decides to fully cooperate with Rebecca.

Unbeknownst to Eduardo, Culebra has been keeping tabs on him and catches his meeting with Rebecca. Eduardo meets with Franco to decide what to do about Alvaro. Franco seems distracted by the recent events and doesnt want to deal with the case and Alvaro. Eduardo is concerned about his brothers change of heart. He reminds him of Liz who is still missing. Franco still a storm of emotions decided to take some time alone and think.

Culebra reports to Alvaro about Eduardo and he decides to go on the offensive. Culebra kidnaps Ana to lure in Eduardo. Eduardo confronts Alvaro. He threatens Alvaro with documents that can put him away but Alvaro isnt having it. He has Culebra take Eduardo captive. Franco is called into Rebeccas office to start figuring out a strategy with the new information Eduardo provided. Rebecca mentions she hasnt heard from Eduardo and is worried about him. She has info on a club that Culebra owns and she asks Franco to check it out. Franco suspects things are awry and he calls Eduardo and his house. He finds out they both have not been seen in a while. Franco decides storm into Culebras club to find out what is going on. He shoots up the club and bursts into Culebras office to find him beating Eduardo. Franco fights Culebra and discovers Alvaro has Ana and Liz and that they are still alive. He also finds out that Culebra actually killed Eduardos wife. Eduardo shoots Culebra before Franco can find out where Ana and Liz are being held.

Rebecca arrives with the police and paramedics. Eduardo and Franco have had enough of Alvaro and want to go after him. Eduardo calls Alvaro and offers the documents in exchange for Ana and Liz. Eduardo agrees to meet with him alone but Eduardo wants to bring Franco as well. They agree to meet outside of the city alone early in the morning. The morning comes and Eduardo and Franco go to meet their father. Alvaro greets them with armed bodyguards. Eduardo shows the papers to Alvaro and wants to exchange. Alvaro brings out both Ana and Liz. Franco decided to do the exchange instead of Eduardo. Alvaro lets Liz and Ana go. Franco hugs both Ana and Liz. He then approaches Alvaro with the documents. Alvaro offers Franco an opportunity to join him. Eduardo is worried that Franco might join his father. Franco asks for only one thing and that is a hug from his father. Alvaro lets his guard down and hugs Franco. Just then Franco decides to detonate a bomb he had hidden killing both of them instantly. Eduardo and Liz are devastated. Ana hugs her father and says Dad dont cry. My uncle told me he was gonna make us free and happy forever... At Francos funeral Angela, Eduardo, Ana Francis, and Rebecca mourn his death. Liz arrives and joins them. They are sadden by their loss and in the wake of the sadness Liz tells Angela how much she loves Franco and reveals that she is pregnant.
