When Brynne Weaver first released her novel Butcher & Blackbird, she was on a fact finding mission in the self-publishing world. The author had started with fantasy, then moved into paranormal, and then contemporary dark romance — all with the express purpose of laying the groundwork for her eventual big hit. “It was just this process of continuously wanting to learn how to crack it and how to get better and better, and focusing on the next thing in the future,” Weaver tells Rolling Stone.” Then she started noticing people tagging her on TikTok.

Did you know that there's a movie out there starring Owen Wilson, Zach Galifianakis, Amy Poehler, the late Edward Hermann, "The Office's" Jenna Fischer, Peter Bogdanovich, and even Melissa Rauch from "The Big Bang Theory?" What if I told you the movie is written and directed by Matthew Weiner, a veteran of "The Sopranos" who went on to create "Mad Men?" Are you wondering why you haven't seen it before?! It's probably because that movie, 2014's "Are You Here," was a huge flop — but I'll get back to that in just a moment. First, what is "Are You Here" — which is currently proving pretty popular on Amazon Prime Video — about?
When we first meet Wilson's local weatherman Steve Dallas, he's a womanizer who barely does his job — often outsourcing the actual weather predictions to his assistant Delia Shepherd (Lauren Lapkus) before taking credit for them on air — and blows his money on expensive dates,...

Harley Quinn season 5 has begun streaming on Max, and the DC Universe series has already done away with one of the best teams that the show has yet introduced. Fortunately, this is the right decision for the Harley Quinn season 5 premiere, which already has a great deal to do to set up the latest season. Bringing in characters like Lena Luthor and Brainiac, and moving the action of the show to Metropolis, season 5 sets up a new and engaging chapter of the show, with an incredibly unique and unexpected future ahead.
The DC series has worked hard to create one of the best versions of Harley Quinn and has crafted a truly unique version for the wider DC Universe. Akin to projects like The Lego Batman Movie, Harley Quinn has used elements of parody in its iteration of this world, yet never feels false to the origins of the characters.

"At that point I was bulletproof. I was the guru of all genre movies." Those are the words of Robert Downey Jr. in 2023 as "Oppenheimer" was making its way to theaters. That film went on to win "Best Picture" and made nearly $1 billion worldwide. It also won Rdj an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor. The point in time he was talking about? Around 2017 when he was cast in a film called "The Voyage of Doctor Dolittle," later shortened to just "Dolittle."
The resounding success of "Oppenheimer" cemented Downey as an unquestioned A-lister, even outside of the confines of "Iron Man" in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. His turn as Tony Stark for more than a decade revived his career beyond even wildest expectations.

Bluey fans around the world are on pins and needles for the new full-length feature film adaptation in 2027, but things are about to change. Although Bluey creator Joe Brumm is devoting all of his time and energy to make the movie great, one development has some fans biting their nails.
Along with the official announcement, it was revealed that Bluey would be getting a CG makeover for the occasion. That's not an uncommon practice for TV show characters making the transition to film, but fans might not need to be so uptight because a redesign has happened before.

Here's what Bluey's official blog says about the future update,
"The CG animated film will be produced by award-winning animation producer Amber Naismith with Richard Jeffery returning to co-direct (’Bluey’ Series 1-3). Joe Brumm will serve as executive producer, alongside Charlie Aspinwall and Daley Pearson from Ludo Studio,...

The post-credits scene for Sonic the Hedgehog 3 confirmed that Amy Rose will be joining the Sonic cast in the next film, but who will play the fan-favorite character remains to be seen. Sonic 3's post-credits scene, as well as the overall Sonic lore, gives us some idea of what Sonic the Hedgehog 4 will be about. Based on the actors that play the other characters, there are a variety of different ways things could go.
Amy could be played by a big-budget star, similarly to how the character of Knuckles the Echidna is played by Idris Elba. Another route they could take with the character of Amy is to cast the actor who currently plays her in the games, Cindy Robinson, as this is how they cast the character of Miles "Tails" Prower. Big things are happening in the world of Bluey this week. Yesterday, fans were told that the beloved Australian animated series is set to get its first full-length feature film in 2027. That's certainly a game-changer for the beloved blue dog, but it also comes with some "trifficult" developments as well.
Along with this major development, two other changes coming down the pipeline might not go over well with the show's immense fanbase. Along with Bluey creator Joe Brumm stepping away from his role on the animated series to focus on the film, it was also announced that the characters are being made over with a "CG" style.

It's safe to say that very few individuals don't know the name "Bluey." The Heelers have been a part of our lives since 2018, and Ludo's partnership with Disney has only made them a permanent fixture in our homes, but...

BBC Studios and The Walt Disney Company today announced the first-ever Bluey movie, which will be based on the Emmy and BAFTA Award-winning animated series.
The new deal sees Disney acquiring the global theatrical rights for the film, which will land in theaters in 2027 under the Disney banner. Following the global theatrical release, the Bluey movie will stream on Disney+.
Written and directed by Bluey creator Joe Brumm, the film is a Ludo Studio production in collaboration with BBC Studios. Delivering the same charm and humor that made the television series a global phenomenon, the movie will continue the adventures of Bluey, a loveable, inexhaustible, blue heeler dog, who lives with her mum, dad and her little sister, Bingo.
“I really enjoyed the experience of working with a longer format on ‘The Sign’ in Series 3, so going even further with a feature film feels like a natural extension of that.

With both “Conclave” to satisfy the middle-aged dads of the world yearning for a classic mid-scale thriller, and “The Return” to satisfy the middle-aged moms obsessed with history and buff Brits, it’s arguably never been a better time to have stock invested in Ralph Fiennes. A thespian of both the stage and screen, Fiennes has become a steady staple of the arts, fluent in both Shakespeare and splashy genre fare. So, too, has Fiennes become a staple of our lives; it almost feels like a rite of passage to learn that the man’s name is actually pronounced “Rafe.”
On the screen, Fiennes has excelled not only in his own performances—never delivering anything less than dignified, even in its delinquency—but in his choice of roles as well. Boasting an eclectic filmography that spans the entire gamut of genre and prestige works alike, Fiennes has more than earned...

Sequels are quite common in today’s generation. When a film (be it a live-action drama or animated movie) becomes a massive hit and grosses millions at the box office, the studios decide to expand that world by making more installments under the same franchise.

A fan-made trailer reimagines The Dark Knight in the style of The Lego Batman Movie, combining the lightest and darkest movies in Batman's recent DC Universe history. In recent years, there have been many different interpretations of Bruce Wayne's Batman in just as many styles. Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy introduced Christian Bale's modernized and haunted Bruce Wayne, The Batman debuted Robert Pattinson's gritty detective and The Lego Batman Movie saw Will Arnett voice a fun Caped Crusader, and some of these styles have now been brought together.

Lego has proven it can deliver when it comes to animated fare, but what about live-action? Deadline reports that The Lego Group is developing three live-action movies with Universal Pictures and has tapped some major directors to help. Patty Jenkins (Wonder Woman), Jake Kasdan (Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle), and Joe Cornish (Attack the Block) will each direct a Lego movie.

A Genre Too Big to Fail (So They Say) In 2022 alone so far, we’ve gotten Matt Reeves’s ‘The Batman,’ Sam Raimi’s ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness,’ and of course (who can forget?) ‘Morbius.’ We’re not quite halfway into the year and we have three big-name superhero movies on our plate — and that’s actually a low number, compared to some past years. I remember, as clearly as if it were yesterday, that in 2017, we got ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2,’ ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming,’ ‘Thor: Ragnarok,’ ‘Justice League,’ ‘Logan,’ and ‘The Lego Batman Movie.’ There was at least one superhero movie for every season, and you simply couldn’t get away from them for long. I’m not saying this is entirely a bad thing, of course; after all, I do like most of the movies mentioned. I don’t think there’s much room for debate,...

There will be spoilers for "Batman: Resurrection" in this article.
One of the great tragedies of the Michael Keaton and Tim Burton collaboration on "Batman" was that it didn't last long enough. We only saw a few of the great villains and characters from the Batman rogues' gallery represented, with some hints of what might have come if the franchise continued under Burton's eye. We were robbed of a great Billy Dee Williams performance as Two-Face, which would have been legendary as his take on Harvey Dent was grounded and fascinating (though he would end up reprising the role in "The Lego Batman Movie").
Tim Burton's take on the Penguin -- played by Danny DeVito -- was so far outside of what we might have expected that it was a revelation. Michelle Pfeiffer as Catwoman was legendary, and Jack Nicholson...

The Lego movie franchise expands with Piece by Piece, and that means it's time to rank the five animated Lego movies released in theaters from worst to best. Following the initial announcement that Warner Bros. Animation would make movies based on Lego, skepticism quickly mounted. The brick-building toys - despite covering many different time periods, realities, and characters - have not been known for their storytelling. That changed with Phil Lord and Chris Miller's The Lego Movie in 2014, which follows a son trying to change the strict rules placed upon the Lego land and characters by his father.
The success of The Lego Movie spawned sequels and spinoffs from Warner Bros. over the next several years. The four films from Warner Bros. Animation grossed over $1 billion worldwide at the box office, although not all were met with the same level of critical acclaim as the original. That left Universal Pictures...

The Lego Movie, the 2014 cartoon from Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, challenged a lot of preconceptions about what a movie based on a toy line could be—and, as such, became a text of permission for plenty of middling-to-bad ideas. At the center of these new misconceptions was the idea...

"I'm Batman" has lost its inherent badassery - it's time for a new catchphrase. The Bat-Man: First Knight #3 presents a new possible catchphrase for Bruce Wayne. Jurgens' writing, paired with art by Perkins & Spicer, creates an unforgettable Batman moment that I need to see in The Batman Part II.
Warning: Contains Potential Spoilers for The Bat-Man: First Knight #3!Over the years, Bruce Wayne's iconic "I'm Batman" has evolved from a badass one-liner into a meme, thanks to the age of GIFs and its humorous use in media like The Lego Batman Movie and the TV series Supernatural. However, I've discovered the perfect new catchphrase for the Dark Knight in a recent comic release that needs to be featured in Matt Reeves' The Batman Part II.
"I'm Batman" has become more gimmicky than a hard-hitting line, and has been so overused in Batman stories that it has virtually lost the inherent badassery it once had.

A new Lego Movie is in development, but none of the characters from the first two films will appear, since their likeness stays with Warner Bros. However, this does open the door for new characters and cameos, as franchises like Jurassic World and Fast & Furious are Universal's and perfect for the Lego Movie treatment.

Pharrell Williams is thankful someone took a risk on his brand of unconventional storytelling.
At a recent screening of his new animated documentary Piece by Piece, the 13x Grammy winner expressed his gratitude to Lego‘s head of global entertainment Jill Wilfert for saying “yes” and collaborating on the film.
“I don’t want to make it all heavy, but she said yes to a Black man’s story, from a marginalized community. When I was young, that’s my origin story,” said Williams, according to The Independent.
Over the past decade, the 75-year-old toy company has expanded into animated features, with The Lego Movie (2014), The Lego Batman Movie (2017), The Lego Ninjago Movie (2017) and The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part (2019).
Williams added at the screening, “Lego could have said no. I’m Black, in case you hadn’t figured that out. But they said yes. I’m not Batman.

A financial scam has officially taken over the Lego store after a cryptocurrency company hacked the store's website. Lego is a multimedia company that creates movies, creative toys, and TV shows for audiences to enjoy. With The Lego Movie 3 on the way, even the company's on-screen potential remains high. Unfortunately, it is currently facing serious challenges outside of the box office.
According to a report by Engadget, hackers took over the store website and began promoting a cryptocurrency coin. The hackers left a gigantic golden banner, proclaiming that the "Lego coin" was officially available for sale. The coin is not legitimate and is not actually affiliated with Lego. The banner has since been taken down and the company released the following statement about the hack:
On 5 October 2024 (October 4 evening in the US), an unauthorised banner briefly appeared on Lego.com. It was quickly removed, and the issue has been resolved.

Well, no one can accuse DC films of making boring choices anymore. James Gunn, co-president of DC Studios with Peter Safran and director of the upcoming David Corenswet-led "Superman" film, shared news of the latest DC project on X (it's still Twitter to us). What is this project? "Dynamic Duo," but it's not a Batman picture. No, this will star the first two Robins. Per James Gunn, "Over the moon excited to announce the newest DC Studios/Warner Bros Pictures Animation greenlit film for theaters, 'Dynamic Duo,' the story of Robin ... or should I say, Robins, as in Dick Grayson and Jason Todd." DC is partnering with New Orleans-based puppetry/animation studio Swaybox as part of the company's first feature. Check out Swaybox's medium-blending reel below:

Before Colin Farrell took on the role of Gotham’s birdman in The Batman (2022) and The Penguin, several other actors had taken up the mantle of one of the most famous of the caped crusaders’ nemeses.
Burgess Meredith, Danny DeVito and Robin Lord Taylor all played live action versions of Oswald Chesterfield Cobblepot, as The Penguin is also known, and many animated iterations of him exist as well. Several voice actors like Tom Kenny, Dana Snyder, William Salyers and more brought the various cartoon Penguins to life in many series from Warner Bros. Animation as well as others. There was not a Penguin in the latest The Lego Batman Movie (2017), but one can be seen in the 2013 Lego film.

The DC Universe has always had a healthy sense of humor about one of its most popular characters, Batman, frequently poking fun at the flagship hero. Perhaps the single most iconic DC character, Batman's cinematic history and TV show dominance have long proven his enduring appeal. However, there's a great deal of comedy to be had from making light of some of the character's more comical aspects, and for the Dcu Universe, pointing out these mannerisms and making fun of them has become something of a tradition.
There are a lot of angles to approach from when it comes to a good joke at Batman's expense. Much of the humor the character provides as a punchline has to do with his seriousness, with his gravely tough voice and brooding personality being ripe to pick on. From DC's many live-action movies to the countless cartoons featuring Batman, many DC properties have...

A new concept trailer that crosses over the DC Universe with the Marvel Universe has appeared online, showing some major heroes of both franchises in Lego form. Neither Marvel nor DC are strangers to Lego crossovers; many members of the Justice League appeared in The Lego Movie, and both they and the Avengers have received a slew of video games and movies, including one that features a Wolverine and Avengers crossover. There are also many Lego playsets from either franchise. All of these character iterations are creative, and their use in a YouTube video is compelling.
Lego Batman, star of The Lego Batman Movie, and Lego Spider-Man, who appeared in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, are imagined together in a fight throughout a dark city that appears to be Gotham in a new video shared on YouTube by LegoBricks Studio. In the video, the two heroes battle across a city built from Lego.

It's been more than three decades in the making, but director Tim Burton is finally back with a sequel to his 1988 classic "Beetlejuice." Thankfully, it's not in the form of "Beetlejuice Goes Hawaiian" or one of the other many versions that didn't actually get made over the years. Instead, Burton has reunited with Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder, and Catherine O'Hara for the aptly titled "Beetlejuice Beetlejuice," which figures to be one of the biggest movies of the fall movie season. But just how big is it? Does the pandemonium continue even after the credits start rolling?
Burton isn't exactly known for franchises, to say the least. This is actually the first time he's directed a sequel to one of his own movies since 1992's "Batman Returns." So it's not like Burton is in the business of setting up things that will pay off down the road. Still, we must ask:...

The Jurassic Park franchise is one of the most iconic franchises in the world, so its no surprise that the popular 90s sitcom Seinfeld managed to include a cheeky dinosaur reference in the show. It wouldnt be the first time an unrelated movie or TV show referenced an aspect of the dinosaur series, especially since Jurassic Park has such a long-running timeline and expansive lore.
Seinfeld might be a television show about people doing nothing, but Seinfeld was very up-to-date with its pop culture references. In one episode, Jerrys artist ex-girlfriend plagiarizes a monologue from the Neil Simon movie, Chapter 2, in her apology letter to him. Another episode parodied the magic bullet theory from the 1991 film JFK with Jerrys magic loogie theory. However, Seinfeld managed to hide a Jurassic Park Easter egg, and its really exciting.

Horror Afraid leads the new titles at the UK and Ireland box office this weekend, launching in 450 locations for Sony.
Directed by Chris Weitz, Afraid stars John Cho and Katherine Waterston as devoted parents who get selected to try a new smart home AI device. The device quickly becomes overprotective of the family and begins interfering in their lives.
It is the latest feature from horror juggernaut Blumhouse, this year’s titles of which include Imaginary (£2m) and Night Swim (£1.4m). The film will have stiff competition from Disney’s fellow horror Alien: Romulus which was up to £8.8m at the end of last weekend.

The sci-fi horror entry scared off strong competition over the Bank Holiday long weekend in the territory from holdovers and new releases alike. Sony’s “It Ends With Us” remained in second place with £1.8 million in its third week, bringing its total to £15.8 million. Walt Disney’s “Deadpool & Wolverine” continued to draw audiences in its fifth week, landing at No. 3 with £1.7 million and pushing its total to more than £52 million.
Universal’s “Despicable Me 4” held steady at fourth place, adding £1.4 million in its seventh week for a £41.9 million cume. Curzon’s “Kneecap” made a strong debut at No. 5 with just over £1 million while Warner Bros.’ “Blink Twice” opened at No.

We all know who Superman is.
Superman, created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Schuster in 1938, wasn't the first superhero character in modern media, but he tends to be held up as one of the genre's central archetypes. His red wrestler's cape and red strong man's trunks, paired with his super strength and ability to defy gravity, have all become central symbols of what a superhero is, how a superhero should behave, and what a superhero looks like. Hundreds of thousands of superheroes have been invented since 1938, but many of those produced by mainstream comics outlets like Marvel or DC owe Superman a direct debt. In the same way that every on-screen Dracula is a riff on Bela Lugosi's performance in Tod Browning's 1931 movie, Superman is either being enhanced or subverted by every comic book superhero character.
