I was excited to watch this movie. I love the Hallmark movies that take place in European countries. The setting of Santorini was gorgeous and the best part of this movie.
It starts with our leading lady heading to Greece to meet her boyfriend's family. He has an overbearing mother, which the actress was great. At first her personality was cute and funny. Even when she ruins the marriage proposal. However it turns irritating after about 30 minutes with her constantly meddling. The main character confronts her about it at one point mentioning how she is gaslighting those in her family. After that she calms down some but suddenly it her son is gaslighting his future wife. I was so annoyed that our lead lady instead of calling him out in it, ends up just apologizing to him for her bad behavior. I'm like when did she become the bad guy? I get she had her own concerns with marriage after her parents marriage failed, but how they portrayed her dealing with that was terrible. Like some over emotional woman. Her groom to be was mad he didn't tell her about a possible job right away, but he never told her he wanted to live in Greece someday. He used guilt, just like his mother, to try and to manipulate her. He never even talked or stood up to his mother like he promised her he would when she was acting ridiculous. Instead he ignored her requests and just guilted her to go along with his mothers wishes. He then is like we should perhaps split and she crawls back to him? The whole way of how our female lead was treated by a man who supposedly loved her left me mad and frustrated. Especially when the story had potential to be more entertaining.
It didn't help the actors had zero chemistry, and the ending had unanswered questions. I only gave it a 4 for the scenery, start was ok, and the sister and mother storyline was more enjoyable. The movie should have focused more on the parent and child dynamics, and the working through that. It would have been a much better movie.
