Tough guys don't dance takes us into a time and place that seemed to exist between the 80's and 90's but in reality never existed at all.
It is a fascinating portrayal of strange characters 'dancing' through a very confusing plot that might remind us just barely of crime noir themes in movies like Reservoir Dogs, Blue Velvet or a more obscure work like American Strays. Yet, it stands on its own as the characters deliver lines in a manner which would put off normal audiences who can't quite place their accents or speech mannerisms and who then realize with terror and contempt that "people don't talk this way".
And this is why this movie is not just simply another crime/thriller noir with a convoluted plot.
It is a work of art and like the greatest works of art - it will forever remain unappreciated by a restless audience who expect normal characters delivering lines while sticking to conventional norms.
Great performances by all but especially a scene stealing Wings Hauser.
Highly recommended.
