Review of Hwjn

Hwjn (2023)
10/10
A charm to watch and imagine!
6 January 2024
For too long, the subject of Jinns or Genies, beyond Disney's Aladdin, has been a social taboo in the Arab world. They had essentially been looked from a purely religious or sometimes mystical perspective.

Hwjn has made it relatable, understandable, and approachable. It is a story written and masterfully told. It is entertaining, engaging, captivating, and thoroughly enjoyable.

The writer's passion jumps through the screen and straight to your heart and soul.

The acting is superb for a Saudi film and not at all overdone. It does not seem 'scripted' at all. The sets and costumes are fabulous and while they are meant for a fantasy genre, they do not in any way feel stereotypical (not that you can stereotype a supernatural being really!).

Gents, take the ladies out for a night out with this one!

But truly, as both a piece of entertainment and education, it really is a must see.

It really does open up your imagination in ways not many films can - so gently, smoothly and with its own girl-next-door charm.
