Having lost her wealthy lifestyle, Jasmine turns up on the doorstep of her sister Ginger's house, for the ex socialite it's back down to Earth with a thud.
I'm not always a fan of Woody Allen films, I don't always see the appeal, sometimes they can have a specific appeal, Blue Jasmine though really did hit the mark, and it is very much a film with a broad appeal. It's a heady mix of drama, comedy and tragedy.
It flows incredibly well, it builds well, it's well paced, even the flashbacks work incredibly well, each of them fit into place. What's so good, is that one moment you're watching tragedy, in the next you're chuckling away, Woody Allen really got this one spot on.
The supporting cast are wonderful, Sally Hawkins does a first rate job, as does Alex Baldwin. Cate Blanchett gives an incredible performance, no wonder she won an Oscar for it.
What a great film, 9/10.
