The Introduction of More Well-Loved Characters
27 January 2023
Still fun for the whole family, the Sonic sequel focuses more on being plot-driven than it's predecessor, and by giving itself a far more 'serious' (relative to a children's video game) story, loses a bit of it's chaotic fun.

The addition of Tails and Knuckles was the obvious progression for the Sega character, and they are incorporated in a strong fashion, remaining faithful to the original games. Voiced well - Schwartz again nailing the energy of Sonic - each character is safely palatable for a younger audience, whilst having distinct personalities. Carrey also develops into his wacky persona, leaning into the pantomime villain that Eggman becomes.

Not as many laughs as the first, but still thoroughly enjoyable, exploring the wider Sonic canon on the screen is another success.
