I came in fully expecting a slice of life romance anime but boy was I wrong. I love any type of show that involves time travel, and this does just that and done so well at that. The way shinpie kept dying reminded me a little bit about Subaru and the way they did that aspect was similar to Re: Zero, but they way this was executed was so entertaining. The whole shadow sickness added this threat that had to be stopped, the fights were gory this shows mystery aspect was phenomenal, the animation was done so well and it had some really good characters such as Shinpei.
I gave this a 9/10 simply cause giving this show a 10/10 would be too generous and only very few shows fit that criteria. It has its flaws and some episodes felt boring and slow but once you it episode 12 so much happens that gets you hooked, and it's not to say anything prior to 12 was bad but it's when I was really attached the show.
Now for the ending, I'm sure some people may have been disappointed with how it ended happily, how every single person affected by the shadow sickness were fine, and all grown up like Ryonosuke. But that's the only way it should have ended because Shinpei defeated the very thing that negatively affected the entire island. But by ending this sickness everything reverses back to normal and realistically even shinpies parents would be alive. Shinpei defeated the sickness so it's no longer a threat and in this new reality where Shinpei drew a blank it's like nothing happened and he came home because Ushio told him to.
I would say it ended perfectly, although I'd like more of a chill side of the anime as well. It just ended with you in a good mood where you feel good. I remember every episode before 25 I was constantly dreading what would happen next, who would die next how Shinpei will be able to not have to loop so much, if ushio is actually okay, watching episode 25 gave that closure making it an enjoyable show, from start to finish I should add.
I tried checking out the manga back a couple years but completely forgot about it but once I heard the anime was coming so I decided to wait, and I was watching it back when it first came out but just forgot about it, one thing I notice is that dropping shows is the worst thing you could do, I can't believe I missed out on this when it came out but the nice thing is that I was able to watch the whole show in almost 1 sitting.
Overall this show is a solid 9/10 deserves more recognition and should be added on everyone's watch list.
