If you want a genuine feeling for how soulless this movie feels, go straight from rewatching the amazingly charming live action trilogy straight into this.

Warning: Spoilers
An animated movie for Night at the Museum on paper isn't something I turn my nose up at. I never go into a movie wanting to hate it, always open minded. This just felt soulless, so bare bones, it simply exists.

It feels like it was made for 5 year olds which for something like Cars I understand it more, it's a Pixar classic and kids love that stuff... But for this franchise I don't think it fits. The plot is so lazy, really... in a world full of fantasy and magic that was perfectly balanced as it was they added teleporting continents through photos. It took away so much charm. So wackily far-fetched was a lot of things in this movie. I personally think the only ones that could rate this highly are ones who watched with their young kid and saw them enjoy it or they're just young themselves. Good on them, I wish I enjoyed it like that.

It doesn't kill the franchise for me, that's the good thing about it being an animated feature, you can separate it... thank god. Not a fan of Disney acquiring Night at the Museum... this had all the feels of an unnecessary cash grab.

It wasn't completely irredeemable, there was at least progression with Nick's DJing, he even has a fun tune at the end, and Joan of Arc was a welcome addition I thought her performance too was stellar. But largely the movie is soulless and empty feeling, just don't let it ruin the franchise for you.
