Boyz 3 (2022) : Brief Review -

The first franchise in Marathi cinema to keep its defining values alive till the 3rd part. Boyz 3 is atrociously funny despite the lukewarm story. Vishal Devrukhkar's Boyz was one hell of an adult comedy entertainer. Hollywood had theirs in the 90s with "Scary Movie" and later with the "American Pie" series. Bollywood entered the zone with "Masti" and "Kya Kool Hai Hum", but found the real taste of adult humour in the 2010s decade with sequels like "Kya Superkool Hai Hum" and "Grand Masti." Marathi cinema was happy to be sophisticated (even though "Balak Palak" was a sort of adult comedy), until Vishal Devrukhkar's "Boyz" came and made youth crazy. The dialogues, jokes, and song "Lagnalu" were a rage among the young audience (considering myself one of them). Then the sequel, Boyz 2, also repeated the same franchise values with a slightly weaker storyline. Now, Boyz 3 goes down further on the story and execution level, but the defining values of the franchise, i.e. Adult comedy and youth-driven jokes, are kept intact by the filmmaker. Parth Bhalerao was never so fearless in any Boyz film, or for that matter, in any other film. His character is supposed to grow further as time passes by, because he is growing in reel life as well as real life. Vishal manages to showcase his growth, be it in his looks, language, attitude, or humour. I wish he had done the same with Sumant's character too, because he is cold as ever. Prateek Lad continues the same form. What comes as a surprise is Vidula Chougule's rough and tough attitude. Not just that, but she also has lots of funny dialogues and important scenes that build the narrative. I am not sure if the romance was necessary because the franchise is about lust and adultery rather than true love. Vishal succeeds in making us laugh, but not believe his story. Anyways, who wants to see the Boyz film for the story? But still, it could have been better.
